My mother is undergoing a test on her heart to see whether or not she is fit for chemo. I’m sure most of you know more about these tests than I do! The problem is, my mother has a heart murmour that runs in our family. The heart murmour is not severe but I’m concerned now that she will be told she is not able to have the chemo. Has anyone else had something similar and been able to have the chemo (or not?). I know it is very individual but I wanted to have some inkling as I am very worried about it.

Please dont worry, heart tests are standard when having chemo.
I had a heart scan and ECG prior to starting chemo, then again when I switched from FEC to TAX - I will get another after chemo and before RADs.

Hi, thanks for your reply. It’s not the heart test in itself I’m worried about though - I’m pleased she’s having one. I’m concernved that her heart murmur will prevent her from having chemo so I’m wondering if anyone knows whether you can have chemo as normal when you’ve had a heart murmur since birth?
