I have been reading all of your posts a while now and they have got me through the hard stage of my mum being diagnosed with triple positive breast cancer on 4th December 2025- so I want to say thank you for sharing your own stories.
My mum had her first dose of TCHP chemotherapy on 12/01/25- she will be doing 6 rounds before having surgery.
She is not doing so well at the moment unfortunately. We called the 24/7 helpline on Saturday morning as she was very unwell and no sign of getting better. I took her into the hospital; She was on a drip for 4 hours as she had low blood pressure and was dehydrated which made her feel slightly better. She had a better day on Sunday but now has got a bad stomach and has been being sick earlier today. Her oncology team called her today and has now got to see the oncologist this coming Wednesday. She wasn’t meant to see them again until after her 2nd chemo. This has bought on a whole different panic again Has the appointment been bought forward due to her being admitted to hospital?
Hello, so sorry your poor mum is going through it all right now.
I haven’t been through chemo yet so I cant offer much advice only to say that when my mum went through chemo, on her 4th treatment after they changed the type and she had a bad reaction to it.
We watched her get more and more poorly, and my mum being the person she was she wouldnt let any of us help. In the end I rang her breast care nurses and they gave her a call, got her a quick appointment with her oncologist and they were able to change things for her. The last 2 treatments after that were much better and much more manageable
Sorry to hear your mum is so poorly. Treatment can hit some of us hard. The teams are really good at trying their best to avoid these reactions. Sounds like they’re on it & want to check in on how your mum is.
They can reduce doses, change scheduling (miss a week to recover) & prescribe medication so hopefully it’ll be a positive appointment. If your mum is really worried about it get her to ring her nurse & ask why she’s being called in so she is prepared.
Thank you so much for your response. So nice to hear that your mum is doing well. Im sorry you are having to go through it as well. That makes sense as she did have a reaction to the chemo when she was having it done- they had to give her extra medication whilst she was having chemo. She has got up this morning and feels better than she has done since having it so that’s a positive! just hoping the oncologist can do something so next time she doesn’t feel so bad. Thank you again x
Hiya, thanks so much for your reply and advice. Mum did have a reaction to the first chemo whilst she having it done so that is probably why they want to see her. Im hoping they can do something so next time she doesn’t feel so ill.
It is understandable to feel worried after your mum’s hospital visit. Chemotherapy can cause dehydration, low blood pressure, and nausea. It is common for oncologists to bring appointments forward if a patient has been admitted to hospital. Keep monitoring her symptoms, and contact the oncology team or helpline if things worsen before Wednesday. You are doing the right thing by staying on top of her care.
Thanks for your response! She is doing a lot better now, yesterday she had a really good day; she even managed to get out for a walk bless her. She has the oncologist this afternoon so hopefully they can do something to make her not feel as bad next time Thanks again x
