Worst place to have meltdown

I have been going through diagnosis and treatment with a pragmatic attitude. My oncologist has suggested Ibandronic Acid but advised I needed a dental check up and any treatment first.

So today I had my appointment at the dentist and although I had been expecting one extraction I ended up with two. I am frightened of dentists so don’t attend unless I have to so I was feeling quite nervous but sitting in the chair, I started to cry and shake and all the emotions I must have been storing up came flooding through and I just couldn’t stop!

They were really kind but I felt sorry for the dentist and nurse having to deal with my meltdown.

Just wondered if anyone else has had an unexpected breakdown in an unexpected situation.

I had a meltdown during my Occupational Health appointment - it was a conference call with my boss and a lady from HR . I’d had a bad experience with HR after long term sickness in the past so when I got on the phone I was psyched up to fight my corner but when the HR lady came on the phone there was so much compassion in her voice which I wasn’t prepared for at all and I crumbled immediately. My asthma review a week later wasn’t much better - it was with a very jolly hockey sticks / headmistress type who asked me a question - I can’t even remember what but it sounded like an accusations and I crumbled again. When I was finally able to explain everything ( other things going on as well as cancer ) she was actually quite nice to me but yes it was very embarrassing and I sympathise with you .

Well done for getting through your dental treatment that is hard enough when you have a phobia - My partner is terrified and I can’t get him to go , his teeth are a mess and I’m concerned that it will affect his general health soon. Xx

I’ve been very lucky so far in that my meltdowns have either been confined to the home or a medical establishment, although my line manager did cop for it over the phone once, but just wanted to pop on to say what a great thread!

Oh, just relating to your post. I am usually fine, post treatment and living with a range of pesky side effects. I went for a smear last week, which due to vaginal atrophy was horrendous and unsuccesful. I had a meltdown at the surgury and spent the rest of the day bursting into tears. It has to come out somewhere! Nice to know I am not alone x

Hi @whataloadof @laneycass @mela

My boss would have to sit there on many occasion with me in a puddle of tears which would just come out of nowhere.

On the other note of smear tests. Mine was this year, was absolutely dreading it however was painfree. I asked for the small speculum. In preparation and for sexlife too have been doing pelvic floor exercises with a therapist at the hospital. When I first saw her I couldn’t do the exercise, little by little I have conquered them. my issue was not being able to relax the muscle down so they were always tightened. Also I was given dilator tubes, its taken years to get back to normal from a very bad painful place.

I use estriol twice a week and also use the issviva Joylux red light therapy.

All worth it, but it does take time and alot of patience xxx

It’s just a check up to look at the condition of your teeth before you start the treatment. I had one and it’s fine. X

I’ve had a fair few meltdowns at the dentist, as I had bad experiences with old-school dentists when younger. I think most dentists are more sympathetic these days and they would have felt compassion for you :rose:

I’ve had those moments where the tears just pop out of nowhere and you feel like everyone is staring. What’s helped me is giving myself a quiet exit plan, even if it’s just stepping into a loo cubicle to breathe. I also keep a tiny distraction on me like a smooth stone or silly meme on my phone to break the spiral. It doesn’t fix things bI’ve had those moments where the tears just pop out of nowhere and you feel like everyone is staring.
