Hi
I had a therapeutic mammoplasty on 1st May. One of my wounds has failed to heal. The bottom of the right breast has been an open wound for more than six weeks. The nurses have tried lots of different things but in order to be able to access radiotherapy within the 12 week window my surgeon stitched up the wound again on 4th July. Wound check on Friday looked positive when the PICO dressing was removed. However, I have been for a dressing change today and the skin has completely broken down again and the wound is a gaping hole. I saw a registrar who wouldn’t commit to a course of action or sharing any possible next steps other than to say see the surgeon which I am doing tomorrow.
I am really looking for some guidance on what people in my situation typically experience next. Are they likely to suggest mastectomy?

Thanks for posting.
It sounds like a difficult time for you and understandable that you are looking for some guidance on possible next steps.
It’s difficult for us to comment on individual situations and say what may happen as this will be determined on a case-by-case basis by your treatment team. You say that you are seeing your surgeon tomorrow, so hopefully they will be able to let you know what they are planning.
