I wish i could switch off but my mind is ticking over 24/7
Ive just had a year of treatment( inc taxotere) and 6 weeks into taking Tamoxifen and thinking I may be able to resume some sort of normality my lower back begins to ache. Its not responding to strong pain killers and is there most of the time!
So I have had an X ray this week and that is clear, a bone scan is booked for thursday. My oncologist says it is highly unlikely to be anything to worry about, but then she handed me a booklet as she discharged me about signs to look out for in the future. The first sign is persistent back ache!
My BCN said theres nothing to worry about as my x ray is clear and now I find out from a friend whose a spinal sugeon that Xrays are not very good for detecting bone cancer. Aghh im confused, has any one else had lower back ache on tamoxifen and feels like me? Please reply. Thanks girls.

Good Morning! I have regular bone scans to check that I am responding to treatment and that it’s not spreading anywhere else. The X-Ray is a great diagnostic tool, BUT a bone scan will pick up tiny amounts of mets in your bones. It will also show up any old broken bones, arthritis and goodness knows what else. So, yes-it’s a far better tool to really look at your bones, and if anything comes up which they are unsure of then they will order an MRI or a PET scan for a clearer picture. Hopefully all they will see is a big fat nothing and a bit of arthritis on your spine! Good Luck xx
Please don’t worry, I am booked for one too. In my case because femara can cause bone thinning. I believe tamoxifen does the same. Backace could be caused by many things. I have had it since my WLE and my doctor reckons it is caused by me holding my shoulder stiffly.
