Xeloda

Hi

Well as some of you know, I am due to start Xeloda next week alongside my herceptin, which after 18 months is now not holding things at bay on its own.

I have had some wonderful tips and advice from a lot of you lovely ladies that have had or are currently on Xeloda, but I do have a question to ask.

I have been taking myself to hospital on my own for the last 18 months for my herceptin, but when I was on chemo back in 07 my husband came with me. From knowing that Xeloda can be taken indefinitely, I am assuming that it does not have the same affect as Taxotere and other similar chemos. Therefore, is it ok for me to continue to drive myself to hospital?

Any views or advice would be gratefully received. Sorry if this is daft post, but trying to work out whats best.

Thanks
Dawn

Hi Dawn, I think you will be absolutely fine…this is my first chemo and I’ve been on a high dose continuously (2 weeks on, 1 week off) since April 2008…haven’t had a day in bed and no sickness at all…really doesn’t feel like I’m on chemo at all…Good Luck…xxxx

Hi Dawn

I’ve driven myself to hospital for nearly six years on Xeloda – I’m on a low dose (1000mg x twice a day, two weeks on and one week off), and, like Belinda, hardly notice I’m on chemo. Of course, we’re all different in the way we respond to our cancer and our treatments, so you’ll have to see how you feel on Xeloda.

Hope you sail through your first Xeloda course, and that it’s as effective for you as it has been for me and others here.

Hi Dawn, I am absolutely fine driving while taking Xeloda and experience no problems from that point of view. But unlike Mariyn and Belinda I do suffer from side effects which I think you already know about. Love Val X

Hi Dawn,

Because Capcitabine is given in tablet form its not like IV at hospital and you’ll know how your feeling before each appointment.

I am sorry to read that you will be back on chemo. I am interested to know though why you will still be on herceptin?

Wishing you all the best with mininum side effects,
Watch out with your feet if your used to long hot baths,
this always gave me blisters.

Best wishes

Hello Dawn
I have just finished my 3rd lot of these and I am OK. MY hubby drives me to my appointment but only because the pain killers make me a bit sleepy and also the parkings rubbish at the hospital so he normally drops me off whilst he gets a parking space.

I have found this chemo really easy compared with the others
good luck Caroline
