It’s just over a year since I have my diagnosis of breast cancer. Should the hospital automatically send me an appointment for a mammogram. My next appointment for check up isnt till October.
I was diagnosed last July and when I checked with my BCN I was told that my first mammogram would be roughly one year from my surgery date. It might be worth contacting your BCN as procedures vary from hospital to hospital.

I was diagnosed last June, had my op on 17th August 09 and have an appointment for my mammogram on the 17th August 2010. I must admit to feeling really nervous about it tho.
I would advise you to contact your oncologists secretary or one of the BC nurses to request an appointment.

My 1 year mammogram was a year to the day after my surgery and I was sent the appointment automatically. However, my onc did say that if I hadn’t received the appointment by 6 weeks before the one I already had to see my surgeon I should chase it up. I took that to me that in his experience people can slip through the net. So I agree that contacting your bcn is a good idea as she will know what is the practice at your hospital.

My 1 year one after diagnosis was actually 14 months later as the clinic had experienced a lot of new referrals via the screening programme (I was diagnosed in October and the programme here ties in with BC month). When I rang my nurse she said the team had weighed up all the options and the ladies who had their appointment put back were the ones they didn’t expect to see any problems with. However, being the first one it was a bit scary at the time.
Thankfully they took another Consultant on and they got everything back in track by the time I had the next one. There is now also a review clinic away from the main 2 weekly breast clinics. It’s on a Friday morning when the hospital isn’t very busy,so much less stressful to attend.

We seem to have had our ops very close together. My op was on August 11th.
