Hi girls. Just needed to come on here and ‘let of steam’. Just when I thought things were settling a bit, another scare. Been off Arimidex for 2 months now and everything slowly improving, but been having quite bad back pain - near my shoulder blades. Finally mentioned it to the GP and he had a listen to my chest. Was very worried, poor air entry to left side , so sent me straight off for chest X-ray. I don’t have a cough or feel that I am short of breath, but have been generally ‘under the weather’ for a long time , but just put this down to being on Arimidex. Now I am really worried that it may be lung secondaries. I did have a recurrence with lymph involvement and vascular invasion, so it is possible . Have to wait 10 days for results and just imagining all the worse case scenario.
Just wish me luck girls, it’s all that waiting that gets to me.
I am sorry to read that you are having such a worrying time and can appreciate that the waiting for results is very hard. I just wanted to suggest our helpline to you, you are welcome to call for a confidential chat to one of our specialist breast care nurses who can offer support and a ‘listening ear’ if you feel this would help.
The helpline is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 9am-2pm on 0808 800 6000.
Hi Birgit I have a similar pain went first to gp then to onc both said it was muscular and caused by my becoming more active again. My worry was bone mets but both docs poked and pressed all around my back and agreed that the 'ouch’area was muscle. It does come on with exercise and goes after a rest.It never hurts at night but it doesnt take much to set it off; folding laundry or typing will do it.I isnt getting worse but I will ask for a scan if theres no improvement by my next appt[3 months].All the best Valx
Hi girls. Just a quick update - such brilliant news! X-rays absolutely fine, no problems with lung, spine or heart. Phew what a relief, and the bestest news for the weekend - don’t think could have waited another week - was going mad with worry. GP thinks my poor breathing is down to the fact that I have strained my left side - the op side - and am therefore breathing shallow as it hurts to breath deeply. He said he wanted to check my breathing again in a couple of weeks in case I have a chest infection or something similar, but as I have no other symptoms, no worries. I also have lymphoedema on the chest wall and upper back, so that could all be a cause of pain. Might mention it next time I am in for a test and speak to the BC nurse.
Thanks for all your kind and supportive posts, much appreciated.
