Good luck for your surgery … I’m sure you’ll be well looked after … are you having a reconstruction at the same time?

Best wishes for tomorrow.

I was totally chill about my surgery until I got into the operating theatre and then I broke down completely.

Look at it as the start of your cancer free life. Good luck!!

I wanted recon immediately, but surgeon said it will get screwed up by radiotherapy so I will need it replacing when treatment is finished, inc likely chemo. I figured I might as well wait till after.

Thank you ladies. All the staff have been so kind. I guess I will officially be one of the BC clan. I will certainly have the scars to prove it!

Good luck with your mastectomy tomorrow. I will also be joining the club - my mastectomy is on Thursday. I don’t know what further treatment will be needed until the pathology results.

Good luck with the op and recovery. I found that the mastectomy wasn’t nearly as big a deal as I’d thought, and recovery was fairly easy, tho having a drain was a bit annoying. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

Well I’m here to tell the tale.
First in and last home. Blood pressure low. Can’t believe I spent the whole day just lying in bed. Couldn’t focus on anything, the room kept spinning. So much for taking a book with me.
Just have to get used to carrying this bag around with me. The sun is shining so I may get my partner to take me out for a walk later, and it might involve cake and coffee

Glad to hear you are done and out . Sorry to hear your blood pressure was low - make sure to drink plenty of water and take your time getting up and down if you can . Enjoy the sunshine and you definitely deserve a piece of cake :sun_with_face:

Hi
Hope all went smoothly & your safely home. Had my left breast mastectomy 24 July. Of my cancer diagnosis & treatment it’s been the easiest thing so far.
Recognise I may have been lucky - healed well & minimal pain (never needed more than the odd paracetamol). Followed by axillary clearance 2 weeks ago, as pathology showed nodes 3&4 with micro tumours. That’s gone well, except fluid pooling 4 days after drain removal :woman_facepalming:. Hey-ho
Now 2nd round chemo, 14cycles Kadcyla, then radio therapy, finally reconstruction on offer.
I’m coming up 70 & I’m happy to try “going flat”. Want to take back control :joy:
Prosthetic is hot & sweaty; haven’t yet been fitted with silicone option.
I’ve taken the plunge, out in T-shirts & light jumpers asymmetrical; discretely looking at passers-by. Men notice, now I realise how much they focus on our bodies. If I catch their eyes, they generally look away - embarrassment (?). Women either don’t notice or are more discreet. So far haven’t been made to feel odd or freakish - flat & proud.

So pleased it’s done; low blood pressure not brill, but letting home is good news.
Take it easy, make friends with your bag :joy:, note it’s easy to snag the lines.
Enjoy the sunshine & outdoors, all is possible when paced.
Good luck Ana x
