I’m posting this message for my sister. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in July and told a week later it had spread. She is 31yrs old and has secondaries in her lungs, liver and bones. She is desperate to talk to someone of a similar age, going through the same as she is.
Hi Shiona,
I am so sorry your sister has had such terrible news, but she will find lots of support and understanding from this site. There are many women who use the secondaries forum diagnosed in their 30s and 40s. I was diagnosed age 37 with primary and secondaries to my lungs, and felt very isolated to begin with. Is she also getting some support locally, from macmillan nurses etc?
Best wishes,
Nicky
Your sister may like to join in the live chat for secondary cancer on Thursday at 8.30 -9.30pm. She could ask a lot of questions there and get a lot of answers.
Please dont be shy as everyone is really friendly.
My sister has received publications from the Lavender Trust which she is finding good. I’ll let her know about the live webchat on Thursday but she has 3rd chemo session that day - so not sure she will be up to it.
Nicky, she has received help from her Health visitor, her chemo nurse. As far as I’m aware she has not contacted Mcmillan but I’ll point her in that direction.
She feels isolated and is convinced there is no-one of a similar age to her with the secondaries she has. I am sure there is someone.
Thanks for that Louise I read it wrong - but good to know correct day.
I do hope it helps. Please contact BCC helpline and they can help too. Have a look at some of the threads and see if there is something tht you can join in with to get info and support.
I had mx and am on Tamoxifen and get first check up December so dont know too much about this to help.
Hi Shiona,
I’m glad your sister is getting some support, and you are obviously a wonderful sister. I think you may get more replies on the secondary forum-i know i don’t often go on to younger women. Please let you sister know that if she wants to pm me, she’d be very welcome.

I’m really sorry to hear about your sister’s diagnosis. I was 39 when diagnosed last year with bc and liver and lung mets. I remember my disbelief as we are fed the message that the high risk group is the over 50s and to be diagnosed in your 30s seems impossible.
I found BCC’s Peer Support service really helful in those early days - basically they will try and match you up with someone to talk to with a similar diagnosis (but who is further down the road than you) and who can support and advise you. I found it a real help practically and emotionally and think it’s something your sister could consider at this point when she feels so alone. The forums are also a great source of support, despite the horrid reason why we are on them.

Hi I was originally diagnosed in 2003 with bc and did chemo, radiotherapy and herceptin finishing in 2006. Was diagnosed with secondary bc in lungs in March this year and have had 4 lots of chemo that didnt work and i am now on 5th lot of different chemo that is keeping it under control. Have the added problem of 2 boys aged 13 and 9 and my 13 year old has aspergers syndrome so change is something he does very well. Also have a husband who has been through it once before and is burying his head so that he doesnt have to go through it again!! Just wish i new how long i had left so that we could plan stuff. Feel like i am wasting my time in hospital every week where all i want to do is, well i dont know what i what to do but i dont want to be in hospital every week thats for sure!!
