Hello all
I’ve been on ovarian suppression for a year. My main symptom is hot flushes which are not awful but not great either, especially in summer. I just wondered if anyone has had an experience of them settling and if so how long it took? I am supposed to have an Oophorectomy due to being BRCA positive so it’s likely my menopause will be permanent and I’m just wondering if I will have to live with the hot flushes forever…
I’ve not started ovarian suppression yet (something to look forward to ) but the leader of my Breast Cancer group was talking about this last week. Have you already explored medications to deal with the symptoms? Some SSRIs can be used to deal with flushes. Might be worth chatting to your GP if you haven’t already.
Hey, I’ve been on Zoladex for about two and a bit years now and my hot flushes are much better than they were to begin with. I do still get them, about 2-3 times a day. I was recommended acupuncture for them (by my oncologist!) and I was pretty skeptical to begin with, but I found it really did help. I don’t have acupuncture anymore, and still have maintained the benefits. I used to have them atleast every hour, waking me up through the night. Worth a try. Definitely worth speaking to your oncologist too as I understand there are tablets which can help too. Wishing you all the best x
Oxybutin can be prescribed for hot flushes - maybe mention it to your onco x
Thanks all! I will def try accupuncture. Not keen to take more meds but good to know there are options. It’s been better the last few days, I think stress definitely makes it worse!
I have found with mine that cutting down the amount of caffeine has really helped. I have 1 or 2 small cups of coffee in the morning and then that’s it, my flushes have calmed down a bit and are more manageable. This weather doesn’t help does it!
