Younger Women's Telephone Support Group

Hi All

If you would like to talk to other women in their 20s & 30s about living with breast cancer why not join a telephone support group.

The next group is scheduled to start on Thursday 21st August – these groups take place in the evenings and last for 8 weeks.

For further information please call out free helpline on 0808 800 6000 or e-mail <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%74%65%6c%65%70%68%6f%6e%65%73%75%70%70%6f%72%74%67%72%6f%75%70%73%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%74%65%6c%65%70%68%6f%6e%65%73%75%70%70%6f%72%74%67%72%6f%75%70%73%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>

Kind regards.

There appears to be some confusion about what constitutes “young”. In another sticky, “young” is 20-45, and yet in this one it’s 20s & 30s. Clarification would be appreciated.

Thanks
Sue

I tried to e-mail for info and it bounced back that it couldn’t be delivered

i am 42 and i was told i was young!

I’m 41 and was told the same thing!

Hi all

I am posting a reply from our Telephone Support Group Co-ordinator regarding your comments on age ranges for our services.

Best wishes
Lucy

Yes, the age range for these 2 services is different. The rationale behind this is that the Younger Women’s Forums accommodate up to 40 women meaning that you are likely to meet someone of a similar age whether you are at the top or bottom end of the age range. The Telephone Support Groups however have a much smaller number - up to 8 women - and the content of these groups is likely to be more intimate. In the past we have had feedback from participants taking part in the Telephone Support Groups which has emphasized the particular needs of women at the younger end of the age range, hence the earlier cut off point. In addition, we run Primary Telephone Support Groups which can be used by women of any age. I hope this clarifies things.

Certainly does Lucy, thanks.

Perhaps you could have telephone support for the more aged “young women” too. I certainly know of one such lady who may well benefit from this service. Another time perhaps? I think women 30-45 have different needs from more mature women.

Thanks for clarifying the situation anyway.

Why oh why is BC divided into age groups to ask for advice?.Is it becoming categorised like every thing else in life? It is so frustrating !!!

I asked to join the previous Younger Women telephone support group but was told I was too old at 44. It was suggested I join the next primary bc support group for people 6months+ from dx. Personally I needed support during the dx process/early treatment when I felt isolated having stopped work and no family close by. So I don;t really understand why the Younger Women group is for early stages of dx/treatment whereas “older” women have to wait. Maybe a rethink is needed on these groups, which are undoubtedly a very good service if your face fits.
