Zoladex and ai - exemestane

Hello, ive just had my first zoladex injection today. I thought i would just need to start taking my new type of pill exemestane (previously on tamoxifen) straight away. However when reading the instruction leaflet it says to start taking any AI after 6/8weeks?
I will have to check with my oncologist but thought i could check on here first. Thanks

Hi wintersun1

Thanks for posting.

The hormone therapy tamoxifen can be taken by pre and post-menopausal women. Exemestane belongs to a group of drugs called aromatase inhibitors. These can only be prescribed in post-menopausal women whether this is a natural menopause or induced by ovarian suppression (such as with Zoladex).

The wait for taking the exemestane will be to allow time for your ovaries to shut down. It wouldn’t do any harm in you had taken it already it just may not have started working. As you explain do check with your oncologist and you could speak to a local pharmacist beforehand if that would help.
