zoladex and infertility

Hi

Im really worried and need something clarifying if anyone can help? I have been off zoladex for 8 mths and i still i havnt had a period. I called my BC nurse today and she said that i need to have blood tests done to see if im still in the menapause as i havnt yet had a period. she said i maybe should have had one now even if im on tamoxifen. i know that zoladex could cause ely menapause but im only 25 and i didnt think that it would be so premature. im really hopin that its just slow coming back. i really really want kids and so does my partner, can anyone offer any advice, has else ever come accross this and periods have never returned?

Many Thanks

Hi Emily

I’m in a similar position to you. I had my last Zoladex in March and no periods as yet. When I had my last check up, the oncologist seemed surprised that they hadn’t come back which had me worried as I would also like to have kids. I had a blood test and luckily the results suggest that it is still down to the zoladex.
I know that, like me, you had a lot of side effects with zoladex - maybe that is why ours are taking longer to return. He did also say that in some cases they don’t return until after finishing tamoxifen.

Hope this helps a bit and that you have managed to get a blood test arranged.

Hi Sherbert

Thanks for that, i have had my blood tests back and it looks like im pre menapausal which is extremely good news! im still gettin the hot flushes and no periods but thats obviously down to the tamoxifen!

Hopefully will get through the next 3 years so i can hopefully one day have kids! There is a light at the end of the tunnel after all…

I’d been reading this thread because after nearly a year off Zoladex (and I’m still on Tamoxifen), I hadn’t had a period but it (finally) came a couple of days ago. Having felt constantly pre-menstrual on Zoladex, several months after I came off the injections I started what felt like phantom periods - all the bloating and cramping but with no end result! I’m still getting hot flushes but they aren’t as intense as they were. I hope this gives you some hope…
