Zoladex/Femara - has anyone maintained a successful sex life?

Hello everyone
I’ve finally been prescribed Zoladex and Femara after what I think is an unacceptable amount of prevaricating by the onc. Anyway - I’ve got them now, and have had the first implant.
What I really need to know is about side effects on sex drive. I’ve read another thread that some ladies have had a surge in libido whilst on Tamoxifen.
Is it all doom and gloom on the oestrogen reducing drugs? Please can someone say it hasn’t affected them, and that they’re still enjoying it.
Yes of course I’m glad to be alive, and will do whatever it takes to maintain that position - but I’m hoping that there is still a sex life after bc.
Hope to hear soon

Oh dear - I take that to be a no then…!!!

I would love to know the answer to this too! Maybe if I bump it up, there’ll be a response!

Tracey

Sorry I cant help you with your question but I couldnt help but laugh at your comment about ‘maintaining that position!!!’

At least I have bumped it up again. Hope you get some replies soon.

Hi Misty

Saw your post a while ago…Don’t really know what to say (but I’ll have a quick waffle anyway!) - I’m on Femara now, on Aromasin and Arimidex before that.

It’s an anti-oestrogen and therefore no aphrodisiac! - I imagine a lot must depend on the individuals concerned, their ages and the stage their relationship is at, too.

Hmm

I promised my husband i wouldnt post anything too personal - but obviously it doesnt help the Zoladex/arimidex combination

I could be wrong in Femara is the same as Letrazole? My mum is on it but I probably better not as her and my dad!! But I hope you get some advice soon. Have you thought about speaking to the helpline, they are very helpful.

Hi

Yes, Jules, Femara is the same as Letrozole.

Hello lovely ladies
Thanks for all your comments - have to say though - it doesn’t sound too promising.
I’ll just have to make sure my man tries extra hard to get me in the mood !
best wishes

Hi Ladies

I had my ovaries out and have now been put on Arimidex. What is a sex drive??? LOL

One of the major probs is dry-down-below-bits - KY is soooooooo messy.

My BC is ER+ therefore anything oestrogen based is a big no-no to me!!!
I had heard of Replens and Sylk - googled them and signed up for samples.

Not saying that there is a magical cure, but Sylk has sort of done the trick for me. (Think it was curiosity!!!)

I think that with Replens, you have to apply a couple of times a week regardless, whereas Sylk is just a couple of drops at the time!!!
Sylk is also available on prescription now.

Anyway, I’ve waffled but get yourself a sample of Sylk off their website and see!!

Not much help really but have fun!!!

Anne xx

Some GPs will prescribe Replens.

Hi

I had my ovaries removed at the same time as my mastectomy and have was put on Arimidex in January. Since then my sex drive has gone down to zero. lack of interest, dryness, painfull etc… This is having a real effect on my relationship, i have tryed sylk and have bought some replens, not had the chance to try that out yet as i started to bleed really bad. has anyone else had these problems

Hi Karen

I’ve had some problems similar to yours. Had my ovaries out about about 6 months after my mastectomy. I was told my periods would stop, but they didn’t, in fact the bleeding went on and on in the end. Oestradiol levels were still sky-high, too. They went back in, looking for any ‘bits’ of ovary that had been overlooked, but couldn’t find any - decided in the end they’d floated away and lodged somewhere else about my person. Four years later, after goodness knows how many ineffective D&Cs, I ended up haemorrhaging and had to have a hysterectomy, mind you I’d also been on Tamoxifen since they discovered the oestradiol lvevels were so high, so that didn’t help. I think you should see someone about the bleeding asap - it won’t do you any good to be like that.

PS My GP prescribed some replens for me once. I have to say I wasn’t impressed. I’ve heard good reports of Sylk, tho, but haven’t tried it myself.

Hi Girls,

I had a total hystorectomy over 20 years ago so have had years of dryness etc, I have been reading all your threads and has anyone tried VIELLE?, I found this the best of all of them.

KY is so messy ( ooooh, and not to mention very cold!), not tried Sylk but have been on Vielle for a couple of years now, it’s so much nicer and comes in a 100ml pump spray, Superdrug / Boots sell it.

Replens is a good internal moisturizer but I found it very messy, but, it did help me a little at the time.

Love, Carol x
