Zoladex - how frequent should I have this?

Hi,

I plan to see my doctor next week to discuss whether I should have zoladex implant once a month or once every three months.

Would be grateful for any comments/advice on the pros and cons of either or both?

Thanks,

Hi…I would opt for once a month…when I was changed to 3 monthly my markers would start to rise at the end of the 3 months so I switched back to every 4 weeks…x

Snoogle,

Belinda is right. For BC it always has to be monthly. GP’s are not always fully aware of this.

I think some GPs (including mine) get mixed up with men who also have this injection for prostate cancer - apparently it’s fine for them to have it three-monthly. I’ve had 4 injections now and every time I go for one my GP suggests I go three-monthly - have to keep repeating that my onc wants me to have MONTHLY injections!

Hate the side-effects of Zoladex though - can never work out if it’s the Zoladex or the Arimidex or the combination of the two bringing on the horrific flushes, night sweats, aching joints, every other menopausal symptom you can think of … :frowning:

But if they’re both keeping everything in check, then it’s all worth it

HI, I had the same thing with my GP too, he kept wanting to give me the 3 monthly one, buy my oncologist kept saying it was to be once per month. In the end I got the hospital to write to my GP to say once a month. Apparantely it’s down to the licencing of the product, the manufacturers have only got the 3 monthly one licenced for men with prostate cancer.

I’ve also been on Zoladex and Arimadex for 2.5 years and have no side affects at all now. Had a few problems at the beginning but it certainly settled down after a few months. Had achey legs alot, but started taking a glucosamine suppliment which really helped.

Have talked this over with my onc and gp. Will now be having injections monthly.
