Zoladex, Tamoxifen and vaginal bleeding

Hi,
I’ve been on Zoladex and Tamoxifen since July following a mastectomy in April and radiotherapy in June.
I had an appointment with my oncologist in November where I mentioned that I’d noticed an increase in my vaginal discharge and he said he wasn’t too worried but wanted to request a referral to gynaecology just in case. Since then, this week I’ve had some mild vaginal bleeding and “period-like” symptoms, my GP has completed a blood test (awaiting results) and referred me to gynaecology under the 2WW.
I can’t find many posts of this happening to others, I understand bleeding can occur on Tamoxifen but shouldn’t on Zoladex. Could it be that my hormone levels are too high and that’s what has caused the bleeding?
Thank you!

Hi sls1

Thanks for posting asking about the bleeding and period-like symptoms you are having and the possible reasons for it.

It’s good to read that you have seen your GP about your symptoms, and you have been referred for further assessment.

It’s difficult for us to say what may be the cause of the bleeding you are experiencing. Some people can still get lighter or irregular periods whilst taking tamoxifen, and vaginal discharge is also a common side effect of tamoxifen.

As you say the purpose of the zoladex injections is to lower the oestrogen levels meaning that periods will normally stop, so the blood tests you are having may be able to say what your hormone levels are. If your symptoms continue and any further investigations you have are unable to find the cause, it’s important to go back to your treatment team to have a further discussion.
