I’m new to the forum, hello everyone. I was diagnosed with breast cancer early July 2017, following treatment I began taking Anastrozole which I’ve been on for just over 4 years (without many issues just joint pain initially). I was initially told I was post menopausal (two tests, 1 being 2 years after my last chemo). I’ve been told I need to begin Zoladex injections due to me having a full period more recently. Just wondered if anyone else is regularly having these injections & how they are finding being on this? There was an option to take Tamoxifen instead but my Mum has had a DVT.
@RhiannaLeigh Hi. I had Zoladex implant injections for 7 years in total. My advice would be ask for the numbing spray on the skin before the injection. I never used to feel the injection go in at all. I experienced no side effects from the Zoladex. It was used to stop my periods as I was 42 when I first went through chemo and my menstrual cycles returned after I finished chemo. I had anastrozole alongside Zoladex for the 7 years and apart from some aching from the anastrozole I found it very tolerable.
I’ve been on zolodex 2 1/2 years now my blood test a year ago showed my overies still working. I’ve switched from anastrazole to exemestane as thought it was making my depression and anxiety worse but turned out I needed a new antidepressant. I’ve posted above I’m unsure what causes what side effects but I feel lousy most of the time. I’m due an 8 week break in September to test again, I can’t wait as the last break was heaven xx
Just wondered if anyone realises that you don’t have to have the monthly Zoladex injection (as it’s quite painful). There is an alternative called Prostap which you can have every 3 months!! And it’s a normal size needle so doesn’t hurt at all!! The practice nurse told me to ask my consultant-not sure why the oncologists don’t prescribe it in the first place??!!
Hope this helps anyone dreading that big needle every month!!
Hi, sorry I know this is 2 years on, but was searching for someone who switched from anastrazole to exemestane, and how the switch was? I’m 43 and struggling to go up the stairs from joint pain and can’t carry on like this. So having a 2 week break then trying exemestane.
Hi there, yes I switched for exact same reasons my joints were so painful. Honestly so much better on exemestane and I’m still on it for another 5 years. Good luck xxx
Really hope you feel the difference, im on a 3 month break now having bloods done to see if im through the menopause so i can stop the zoldex jabs. I do hope so as ive had 60 over 5 years lol. Stubborn overaries. Let me know how you get on xx
