Zoledronic Acid Injection

I finished last of my treatment for Breast Cancer on 22nd December.  I had Chemotherapy, Masectomy and then Radiotherapy.

I am now on Hormone treatment which is monthly injections and daily tablets and I am also to get bisphosphonate.  I got my first Zoledronic Acid injection 2 weeks ago and it made me feel awful.

2 weeks on and i still feel exhausted and sick.

Has anyone had this injection and felt like this?

Hi shirks, I had my first zolendronic acid (zometa) on 10th January and felt like I had flu for 4 days. Totally exhausted, every part of my body aching, sickness & diarrhoea, dizzy, headache just really rough. Next couple of days eased a bit then had five good days, then a couple of weeks with non stop headache and sore throat.

I had my second dose on Monday 5 Feb. This time onc prescribed iv steroid with the zometa plus anti sickness tablets. I feel so much better this time. Still exhausted (not helped by insomnia!) and a stuffy nose like beginning of a cold.

I’ve read that it’s common to have loads of SEs the first time around. Hopefully the next one will be even easier. A friend of mine has no SEs whatsoever.

I’m also on monthly zoladex injection with letrazole and ibrance. My first zometa coincided with the start of letrazole and ibrance so that might have compounded the reaction.

Make sure you tell your oncologist about all your side effects so that they can adjust your treatment and add other meds to make it easier.

Hope you feel better soon x
