Anyone that’s had zometa, what side effects did you experience. I have my first one in 3 weeks and trying to figure out if I’ll need some help on the day after I have it as I have a 8 month old to look after. I heard some people have had really bad flu symptoms and couldn’t get out of bed.
I had none at all after my first in March xx
Hi @rosa1
I did feel pretty awful for 12-24 hours after my first treatment. Flu-like aches and pains as you say. The nurses said it was quite common the first time, then people were ok with subsequent treatments. That was exactly my experience.
I think you probably should arrange some help with your baby, just in case.
Sending good wishes X
Hi Rosa1 I had my first zometa infusion december last year. I too did not feel too great after. I felt sick and achy, and just bleugh. A friend has the zometa infusions too and she has been ok with them. So i guess it can vary from person to person. I did read recently that somebody suggested drinking plenty of fluids the day before, on the day, and the day after can help with symptoms. Im going for my second infusion next week. So going to do this. I would get somebody to help, just incase. I hope it goes smoothly for you, best wishes xx
Hi, on the day I was okay, it was the following few days I had flu like symptoms. Second infusion mild symptoms and after that no symptoms. I hope like many you are symptom free.
I’ve had 3 so far. Flu like symptoms for 4 days. Most of it is aches and pains more than normal and fatigue, last time I had an upset stomach and a bit of nausea. I took some tablets I had left over from chemo and it subsided quickly. I listen to my body and rest when needed.
On the day I was told to take paracetamol 30 minutes before the infusion to help with aches and pains. I’m ok for the first 24 hours. The infusion is quick, 30 minutes but slow an hour for all the usual checks before and after including flushing the line.
Hi @rosa1
Just mild flu-like symptoms here - a bit like having a covid jab without the temperature. Each infusion had less and less side effects.
People do tend to share bad experiences rather than good ones.
I’d ask to have later in the day if possible (all mine were 3pm) so that you go to bed feeling just a bit ‘off’ (if you are going to have any reaction). I used it as (another) excuse to be lazy when you get home - take out or prepped tea etc. and have an early night. So with a little one, it would be useful to have some help with your routine but not a deal breaker if that’s not possible.
I was OK the next morning, even with my first infusion.
Good luck and enjoy a bit of downtime in the chair - nice nurses, a cuppa and a biscuit, what’s not to like?
I felt a little sore and has some minor cold symptoms but nothing that kept me from normal activities. I haven’t had any side effects since then.
No side effects at all. Back in work an hour later. All good.
Think of it like a mystery flu lottery, could be nothing, could be “toddler? what toddler?” level wiped out. Stock up on paracetamol and babysitting
Hi, I would get childcare for your first one just incase. Unfortunately I did have a reaction and had to go to hospital as they couldn’t get my temperature down. Terrible flu like symptoms. They did get easier as they went on. My last one, no symptoms at all. Good luck, one big tip is drink lots of water during infusion x
I had my 3rd last Friday and have never had any SEs.
Would reiterate the advice to keep yourself well hydrated, and have a good book to hand x
Hi, I’m due my 5th Zometa on July 3rd. I don’t know what reaction I had to the first one as I was given it at the same time as my 2nd E/C infusion and felt pretty bad anyway. Unlike many people I do have a fluish reaction every time however but it’s not bad and lasts 24-48 hrs and passes completely. I’ve taken to avoiding having particular plans for the day after the infusion- I did need to have a grandchild the day after one of them, but we got by with quite a lot of tv that time. I was able to loll about snd discuss some bits as we watched.
