I had the ice mittens and ice slippers whilst having Taxotere.
I think they are supposed to help to reduce nail loss, nail bed soreness and peripheral neuopathy.
If so, I have to report that my fingernails fell out anyway (but this isn’t nearly as distressing as it might sound,as there was always a new one that had grown halfway up underneath) and the beds also became very sore. My toe and thumbnails were unscathed.
I had very little peripheral neuropathy, so I think the ice mitts and slippers may have helped here…
Hi Bahons2
thanks for your message regarding frostie mits… I guess time will tell. did it hurt when the nails came off…keep looking at mine and its only day 3 lol think im getting parionide somewhat…its just cos it all new again.
do the aches go after the 1st week or so or is it one that lasts the whole 3 cycles of Tax or is it another one that no-one knows.
Anyway… hope your ok and thanks again for your message
Aches got less during the cycle and improved if I kept mobile.Took my B6 as a vitamin B complex (readily available in most supermarkets)
Julie I only had one injection per cycle for increasing white cell count but I know there’s 2 different types. My main problem was bone pain in the areas that produce more white cells (jaw, hips, sternum and the long bones of the leg) Lasted for two or three days max and was advised to use ibuprofen after I’d checked my temperature, which solved the problem. Definitely worth the side effects cos I felt so much better 2nd cycle when I had it than 1st when I didn’t.
Hi all you brave, strong, fabulous girls! Just wanted to say hi,this is my 1st time in a chat room and reading all your posts has been amazing and is really helping me. I was diagnosed with BC 20th May, had masectomy and expander fitted and full axillary clearance and they found a 6cm tumor and 3 out of 10 nodes had cancer. Got what is quite a rare BC by all accounts ‘micro papillary’ usually found in older women (I’m 39). Does anyone else have this? Having 2nd FEC this week (3xFEC and 3xTAXOTERE) and hair started coming out in clumps last wed so cut it all off Friday night and it was the best thing I could have done! Bit drastic but feel like I’m in control again! Thank you all for staying so positive. Us girls are sooo strong! Xxxx

Morning Sally.
U go back to bed and sleep this nasty time off!! I am sure that give it a few days you will be fine again.
I have had achy pressure on my chest too, but not anything I found too worrying.
I think the worst feeling with any type of chemo if the feeling of your body being taken over as if going into decay!!
But as we all pretty much know by now, there are good days … and enjoy those. The bad days, well will just have to try and get through them as well as we can.
Also, I thought would mention. Many of my friends are so keen to help us and I have found it hard to think of anything for them to do.
But now I have started suggesting that they cook us a meal that we can have in the freezer for the days when energy levels are down.
Any now, I have a freezer full of yummy food from all my friends (ie. lasagen, cottage pie, casserole, meatballs etc).
The fun part is also letting them know how the food was once consumed…mostly a lot better than if I’d cooked it myself!!
Hair loss clinic today, may be fun, but also emotional. Though own hair still firmly in place!!
Sally, you moan away, your allowed. too much to expect we would get off scott free i suppose. Hope your not suffering too much. tuck yourself up in bed and look after yourself, hopefully it wont be too long before your back on the up.((((hugs))))
Julie, sounds like your doing ok at the min, fingers crossed you will be ok. You had your share of rough times on the fec at the beginning, hopefully you will sail through the rest of your chemo. (hope the fish survived)
Been for my blood test this morning, fingers crossed bloods are ok for TAX on thursday, should know tomorrow morning. Got to ring for results before i start taking DOUBLE steroids in preperation for thursday. can’t wait for the sleepless night tomorrow, might not bother going to bed, was bad enough on single dose.
Look after yourselves everyone, luv Pauline xxx
HI,Sally sorry to hear you feel so low today i know how terrible is not to be able to eat cos everything hasnt got taste or taste horrid that makes you luck of energy and you feel tired…i hope you will be better tomm…Julie m i start taking lifemel honey after my 3 FEC wich was horrible -3-4 day after…so if the chemo is still in my body i dont take anything -not to stop chemo working after taht i feel my body needs a bit of support to recover so now before treatment i start multivitamins they have selenium, zinc, vit E,B6 B12 .C,biotin and green tea extract.so after i start taking tose i feel much stronger so i will do same with TAX i just feel that body runs out reserves and need help also i will stop 3 days before next one…Pauline getting ready…?love to you all…Christina
hi all
just wanted to let all u ladies on here know how i got on today with tax was very upset this morning didnt want to go up to unit but went after long talk with chemo nurse i had tax and all my anti sickness tabs so far im ok no sickness just my legs feal bit achy weird im eating my dinner which is great as on fec was really sick clouldnt eat for ages so hoping this is start of fealing ok try not to worry its not that bad i no early days for me as only day one t care everyone hope all ok with u xx
Having gone through the Tax I know what you are feeling. I found that I could eat sweet things, trifles, creme caramel and rice pudding. The only savoury things I could eat without retching were scrambled eggs and mushrooms. Anything with starch tasted awful such as, cakes biscuits, crackers and bread. I could not drink coffee or tea but found that ginger ale was good, strangely enough horlicks tasted brilliant and that’s what I drank most of.
Watch out for the mouth ulcers. I sucked iced lollies when having the Tax to keep my mouth cold. Then I rinsed my mouth with pure pineapple juice, spat it out and then drank some. I did that for 4 days after the Tax. There is an enzyme in pineapple which helps to prevent ulcers and I only had one through 6 Tax.
Don’t take the steroids after 2 pm. I had my first lot with an early breakfast and my second with a late lunch. Did not have any trouble sleeping. The tiredness was awful at first but, after a chat with my Oncologist I had a half dose of steroids for 3 days after the normal dose. That worked well. Just watch out for the day or two you may feel depressed. With me it was on the second day after I finished the steroids. My taste came back slowly after about ten days on each cycle. By this time I was starving so ate all my favourite foods to fill up.
The best thing I found to take for constipation was dulco ease capsules. They just add more fluid to the stools to make them softer. The Diarrhoea comes after about 4 days and I was given tablets for that.
It’s just a question of juggling with your life for a few months and finding what is best for you. I got through it and so will you, so keep your chins up.
Sally hope you are feeling better today!
julie, glad to hear you have not been too bad!
emmbee thanks for all that info, hope i go off starchy things!! thats all i wanted after fec and the waistline has increased!!
Pauline will be thinking of you big time tomorrow hope blood was ok!
chin up girls we are getting there! love to all debs xxx
well its day6 now and im still aching and tired trying to find what pills will work, not sleeping very well either, nail beds are tender. and generally feeling poo… Oh i hope it passes , can anyone shed any light on this…
İ hope you will feel better soon, i was prescribed advil and
panadol extra for pain , and panadol extra helped me quite a lot.
Than i do eat 3 times read meat , 2 times chicken or liver, 2 times fresh fish weekly with lots of veggies, to help bone marrow-white cells, lots of fruits such as red grapes ,peaches, water melon and my beta glucans and red grapes seed extract and harnup molasses… when i feel very tired i take 500 mg of vitamin c… All above with approval of my oncologist… and of course
2 liters daily spring water + mugs of green tea
Friendly wishes from ıstanbul
