Another cinderella meet up

Is that too much for you? Perhaps next time we could do the food prep as well! (Though you and Angela make a great team.)

I don’t think it would be too much geraldine and would be prepared to give it a try. Sometimes we could do just sandwiches, or each one bring their own food with them. But one way we cannot go is to arrange to bring contributions to the meal because as yesterday showed if people dropped out at the last minute we could end up with a very unbalanced meal!

Dawn

Thanks so much Dawn. I really enjoyed meeting you and all the ladies there. It was such a pleasant venue and so nice to be outside. I would definitely come again if there was another meet there as I’m sure I could stay with friends again.

Anne

I am so sorry that I was not able to make it in the end on Thursday. I was so gutted and fed up about it.

I think if Dawn is happy to give it a go then a meet every month would be a good idea and then those that can’t make it one month can maybe make it the next. One of the (many) things I find frustrating about this disease is the inability to plan ahead and when you do you can’t always keep to the plans you made. I really hate cancelling at the last minute as it is something I have never done but some days/weeks the mind is willing but the body has other ideas. I just feel that there must be a period of relative well being around the corner for me!

On a good note the crushing rib pain and pain with breathing was discussed yesterday with my oncologist and had a couple of tests and it has been decided that if the symptoms don’t worsen on the next couple of weeks then all will be ok and he is happy to leave things as they are at the moment and the view seems to be that I may have cracked a rib and/or pulled a muscle. I am happy to go with that unless things get worse.

Anyway, enough about ME, I think it would be great, Dawn, if you would not mind hosting these get togethers. Really, really want to see your lovely gardens!

Angee x

Really glad to hear that you saw the onc yesterday, Angee, and feel happier with what is happening. Was sorry not to have met you at Dawn’s but it sounds as if there will be another opportunity soon. Hope the pain lessens soon.

As for the frequency of the meets, think that is very much your decision, Dawn - if you are happy with every month, then it gives everyone more opportunity to come and won’t be so bad if they have to drop out at the last minute. Just don’t won’t you to take on too much - so you must tell us, if it becomes too much for you. We want you to enjoy it as well!! Think your point about each bringing food is very valid as well - we could have ended up with a most peculiar lunch on Thursday if we had gone down that route!

So just need to decide on a date.

Love to all

Kay xx

Good to hear your news from you Angee and hope the rib problem resolves itself soon.

Re the meets - again am happy to have one each month. My disease seems to be pretty stable so it shouldn’t be a problem. Hey my housework might even get done regularly now :). There are plenty of ways to keep the food simple. Things like a ploughmans, or sandwiches should be uncomplicated. I think it will be more about us being together than the content of the food LOL. If you are anything like me though you like that bit too! It’s a question of deciding which day is the best one. Is Thursdays generally a good day?

Dawn

Thursdays are the best day for me (as don’t work then - and can’t take leave other days during term time). Do have to go to the hospital every 3rd Thursday though to collect my xeloda but could always come on afterwards as am usually out of there by late morning.

Kay

Hi All

Yeah we missed you angee, but glad you seen your onc and have sort of sorted it out iykwim LOL!!!

Dawn, loved the lunch. Agree it must be as and when you are feeling up for it and ok with sorting it all out, as not easy doing lunch for that many, not that i would know!!! As long as you are sure though would be fantastic, and as you all say, if someone cant make one month probably can make the next!!! Salads, sandwiches, jackets etc are all great food and easy to organise as you say.

Thursdays good with me too. Tuesdays have herceptin every 3 weeks. Cannot do Mondays or Wednesdays though and Fridays and the M25 - yeah like I want to try that one! LOL. But obviously go with majority vote as usual. See what you get back.

Take care and hope you all enjoying your weekends.

Love
Dawn

I’ll add my voice too (as usual…) to go with what is best for you Dawn and just to say Thursdays are good for me too.

M25 / M23 would be hellish on a Friday afternoon, I agree. And every 4th Friday is my treatment day. But of course, go with the majority.

Angee xxxx

when is the next meet , will look at flights early , be great if i could get a lift from gatwick as someone mentioned before xxxx

Hello All

Angee - sorry to hear you are having problems with ribs and chest at the moment - I had awful pains that came and went after tax so it sound as if it could just go…I hope that works our ok.

Tracy - how are you doing ?

I would love to come to one of these meet ups - but it is a bit tricky for me as I am still trying to work and dont really drive - gave it up years ao after a couple of parking scrapes - it was just too annoying after the third one. As we live in fairly central london I havent missed it, but something like this shows the problem. In the summer in particular its so nice to sit outside, was just doing that in our little postage stamp. Maybe I could hitch a ride with someone from a station…

Hope everyone is doing reasonably well, I am not so bad myself, but have a feeling my chemo free time is coming to an end, scan coming up very soon and ,I hope I am wrong.

love to all
Cathy

Hi Cathy

More than happy to give you a lift (think you are SW side of London??) if you can get either to Guildford station or somewhere else vaguely en route.

Know what you mean about scans - I’m at the hospital on Thurs to start my 3rd cycle of xeloda and think onc will be sending me for a scan sometime in the next month. Find it hard after all the ups and downs of the last few months, to feel that there won’t be yet more progression. But also know I have to try and remain hopeful and focus on “today” - so have also been making the most of the sun in the garden.

Also haven’t forgotten about promising to email you - sorry going off topic!

Love to all Kay xx

I am also happy to give anyone lift - I live in Sutton and would happily pick anyone up from a local station or from the airport. Once we know when the next one is (if I’m going) I will offer my taxi services!

Geraldine

thanks all, Dawn, Kay, Geraldine I am in Sheen/Mortlake area and could get to guildford or london bridge etc…sounds like we could work this out, would love to come for a meet up . I really appreciate you posting your replies.

Kay hope it gos well on thursday, I am there on weds for my zometa and zoladex, I know we will be booking scan this visit. I hope you are feeling ok and coping with work etc. This week has been a bit of a challenge, major problem with junior colleague not pulling his weight, and then to top it off my husband spent friday night in casualty with ear and throat infection. He seems quite a bit better to me, but it is frustating as he will not listen to me !!! Nothing new there…

Cathy

That sounds like a really good idea although I do think I’ll probably be absent over the next weeks as I’m having my chemo. Unfortunately it’s making me extrememely tired and a little sick too so it’s better for me to stay home for now. Plus I can’t drive myself very far at the moment. Once my chemo is over I’ll be there!

Would love to join in on this - and with enough notice could organise work around it. Lots of people on here I’d really like to meet face to face. I’m in Cambridge so if anyone wanted a lift from East Anglia I could help.

xx barbara

Unless I get off the morphine I will be unable to drive too so would need a lift from Guildford, Sutton, Portsmouth or Southamoton area.
Just found out I can access computer in day at hospice but seem only to be able to use it in office hours!!! Cab’t get my supposedly internet connected mobile to work either!!!
Look forward to seeing you soon
Kate

HI Barbara

I live in Peterborough so not sure how far out of your way that might be - although I do know my way to the park and ride at Trumpington!!!

Hi Kate - Kay lives in Farnham - so I’m sure she could pick you up from Guildford; I could easily pick you up from Sutton, I am sure we’ll get you there - hopefully though you’ll be back driving! Good to hear you have access to the net at the hospice even if it’s a bit restricted.

Geraldine
.

Hi Kate

Am sure I posted on here an hour or so ago to say just that - don’t know what happened to that post! Disappeared somewhere into cyberspace.

As Geraldine says, I can easily collect you (and Cathy if that is her “best option”) from Guildford Station - I live between Farnham and Guildford so it’s hardly out of my way at all.

Brilliant news about being able to use the computer at the hospice - look forward to reading more of your posts!

Lots of love

Kay xx
