Any tips for quicker hair growth?

Oh wow my beautiful hair!!!
It is like a lovely sculture. It is a golden or beige or stone colour depending on the light. It swirls round like a catherine wheel round my crown, on top the sides grow together to form a peak like the Pennines in relief running along my head, each side is still very short but growing backwards to form a DA with a little curl at the base. It is a work of beauty. I have had photos take of the back of my head to keep for posterity.

Every day with hair is a joy!!!

Hi all
Topper your hair sounds like a true crowning glory! What a vision of loveliness!
My last FEC came and went in a flash - no priblems.
My hair had started to regrow a week before. I was worried about this - thinking maybe I’ve become immune to the chemo but the onc didn’t seem concerned.
I even shaved my armpits for the first time in months before my rads planning appointment on monday! The hair was lovely and fine but I had to shave it. The stubble will no doubt start soon. Pubes also marching back - head hair a bit slower but definitely making a reappearance.
Hurrah!

Oh girls!

Thank you so much! Your tales of triumph keep me going.

Nicola - my husband says the same but I am not brave enough yet. It is too short, but coming! Well done you. Keep going. Know what you mean about hair down below too. But now (sorry!) it is lovely and straight and soft. So many years since it first came - may be it was like that then? But so good to have it back, I agree.

Lizzie - it sounds gorgeous!

Topper - you should write a novel! I so share your joy. Every time I wake up I thank god for a little more hair back. Love the image of the Pennines running down your head. Mine too is better on the top than the sides.

Tracey - it always comes back first where you don’t want it!

Love you all

In a few weeks/months, we’ll have to have a “going commando” day! When I go to playgroup to collect my little boy, I always wear a hat. The staff know why because when he started a few months back, I told them what I was going through in case little fella said anything or was unsettled etc. But the other parents don’t know me (dh usually does the dropping off and collecting) so they probably just think I’m a “hat” person. They’ll have the shock of their lives when I suddenly bare all!

Topper - what a lovely image!

Oh no! a patch on the top of my head has put on a spurt and is sticking up!!!
oh this spoiling the sculture!!
Ha ha… NO I am not going to complain about my hair it’s brilliant!

I wish my hair would come back a bit thicker on the crown - it’s very patchy at the moment although it is coming through nicely at the back and sides, I finished chemo just before Christmas last year and was expecting it to come through faster - I"m so impatient!

Still as bald as a coute down below, but can’t say I’m too bothered about that as I’m the only one that see’s it these days!!

Sadly, there are no genuine remedies for quick hair growth - patience is the key - how boring! I finished my treatment last January and my hair is a bit wavier than before but, sadly, no thicker! I wished and willed my hair to grow - in a strange way it was a fascinating progress - a bit like being re-born! Of course, the hair that comes back first is the hair you don’t want - I think it’s called sod’s law. Anyway, best of luck. Tawny

I was a bit thin at the sides to begin with but that’s filling out now. I tried to comb a “fringe” yesterday but that was tricky with it being less than a cm long and not yet comb-able length!

Tracy - I’ve noticed that, annoyingly, my hair down below is longer than my head hair. How can that be fair?

When I ooh and aah over little babies in the school playground, whilst waiting for the kids to come out, I compare quantity/length of hair to me now. Some of them are beating me. With others, the race is on!

Nicola, you did make me laugh - I was at a family ‘do’ the other week, and there were a couple of 16 month old little girls with thicker hair than mine, I felt a little better when someone arrived with a 2 month old though as I actually had a bit more than her.

It’s totally unfair when you have more down there than where you want it!

My head hair is still at the fluffy stage, and is a dazzling white with a few black patches - I look a bit like a cow to be honest.

Moo! Well, I think I look like a man with a very small head. I think I’d prefer to look like a cow! Although my husband thinks I look fine and my Dad and step-mum are doing Oscar-winning performances of how good it looks!!! My two little boys are a bit more honest - they don’t mind it v v short but my 4 yr old Thomas pointed out that he still has more hair than Mummy!!!

Never mind, just think - come the summer we’ll all look like shampoo adverts, shaking our lovely locks about!

Has anyone else dreamt about having lovely long hair? It’s such a disappointment when you wake up and remember it’s only a dream!

I have had the long hair dream as well, lots of uncontrollable curls that later turned into a blonde pony tail. I hope it wasn’t a premonition!

Hi All

Me too with the long hair dream! In which I meet my long dead mum and dad! Mine seems to have screeched to a halt at Beckham length though getting kind of curlier on the top. And still dark whereas I was fair before. And Nicola - nothing like kids to tell it how it is! Aren’t they great???

Keep growing girls. So good to be this side of it all really (she says with hairy toes!!!)

Lots of love

Hi Dilys
Does your hair grow to a point on the top?
Kx

Hi to all you lovely ladies

I have just come across this post and it makes great reading. Hope you dont mind me joining in.

I finished my FEC in February 07, so it is just coming up to a year, can’t believe how the time has flown. My hair started back almost straight away, and I remember looking in the mirror each day for new growth. My son had his 18th Birthday on 27th April 07, and this was the first time I went out commando. I must admit I did feel a bit self concious, but looking back at the photos now, my hair looked good, really short but nice.

Just wanted to say, once it gets going, it really seemed to take off. I haven’t had a haircut yet, no scissors are getting near it yet! My hair is now around 6 inch long, and lovely and culry, auburn as well, just a little darker then before.

I am so greatful to have it back, although it was really long before and it will be some time before I feel like me again.

Hope all you ladies are getting on ok with your new hair, mine was curly before, but it must be strange to have had straight hair then have to cope with curls!

Love to you all

Hi Deborah and all

What a heartening story Deborah. Can’t wait to be where you are now. Curly and auburn is my dream. Bet you look fabulous.

Karen - no I haven’t got the pointy head syndrome (yet!). It is definitely thicker on top - like a Mohican if it was long enough. It is beginning to feel like velcro against my pillow which is great. I am so sad I wash it in baby shampoo every day, though I could as well use shower gel!

Much love to all.

Hi Dilys
I had the velcro thing when my hair was falling out and regrowing between chemo. It was really painfull. I have found if you lace your fingers together, fingers inwards against the top of your head and bring them apart you can give yourself marvellous appearance of waves! Try it.
K

PS yes your hair sounds marvellous Deborah. I am looking forward to something similar!!!

My hair growth seems to have come to a halt! Grrrr! I know what you mean about the point Karen but the hairdresser I saw a week or so ago combed it forwards and it’s so much better. I was trying to comb it backwards and it just did the pointy thing.

Try combing the top bit forward, I have a very very very short fringe when I do that!

Hi All

I have had the benefit of seeing Cecelia’s hair and it is just great! I want mine to look like that. Sorry it has stopped Cecelia! Surely can’t be that bad???

Meantime I am going to bed lacing my fingers together and getting waves! Cheers Karen!

Love to all

Hi All

It does seem to have all but stopped growing since I had a little trim to even it out… that was supposed to encourage it! But it might me me thinking it has stopped as I scrutinise it every day!

I’m sure it’s growing, just very very slowly.
