Sounds delicious Wildpurl! Yes it is doable, i do get tired but find if I read my kindle /watch t.v in bed from 9.00 p.m onwards I feel very rested and do like the normality of it! Although with a rush of hospital appts I have had more time off this week and next, I always try to have Fridays off and do something that makes me happy if I can! Hope your ankles stop swelling, I have found my energy improving each week, but walking uphill or going up the stairs is still difficult. Still early days I suppose.
Rosie, good news you are not bandaged up like a mummy again! Hope it feels more comfortable.
Jackie, hope you got on ok today? I was at hospital for ages- then after all the tests sprung on me at consultation last week I still had to have another blood test today!- my red and white count is still low so had to have something called a group and check blood test in case I need a transfusion at time of surgery!!
Am so fed up with hospitals now! I get so grumpy when I know I have to go in for appts- have heart scan next Wednesday and surgery 48 hours later!
Rosie, my eyebrows are nonexistent still, head hair is growing though!! Not much leg hair either.
Thank you ladies for all your good wishes. I’m afraid I’m a bit down in the dumps today, not helped by one of my nails falling off and most of the others looking to go the same way. On top of everything else son in law damaged his hand at work on Monday and has to have an exploratory operation tomorrow. It never rains!
Joan, sorry you are down in the dumps, you have every reason to be after your shock at the loss of your brother in law. Has the whole nail fallen off? Mine don’t look too healthy either- just a constant reminder of all what we have been through!
Hi Jackie, good you have an appointment date, totally relate to feeling sad at going back on the hospital treadmill after a brief respite from chemo! . I also asked about the time between chemo and surgery as was very concerned it would grow again in this time, I have been reassured by oncologist, breast care nurse and surgeon this is not going to happen, but still worried and keep feeling the lump area all of the time for activity!
My surgeon is a lady at glenfield hospital in leicester, know we can’t name them, but she is lovely, very calm and reassuring and an excellent surgeon.
And yes really fed up with blood tests, nurse said my veins were very hard and had to draw blood out with a special tube!
Also when I saw breast care nurse she told me that last week when I discussed my surgery and signed all consent forms the right breast was put down for surgery- I have cancer in left breast!! So a big error had been made!! Have to now have new consent form and sign again.
Regarding Norfolk, we are staying in a small town called mundesley, have never been before, but have been told it’s very nice, long, sandy beach and very pretty, it’s 6 miles from cromer if need a little more excitement, but pottering on beach with husband and dogs suits me fine! We had difficulty finding a place to stay because of high season, found a hotel overlooking beach called the manor hotel, it takes dogs too!! So yes they are coming with us!! I have been to Norfolk quite a few times, mainly for the day as it’s only 2 hours away from Leicestershire, usually visit wells next to the sea or Hunstanton, so be nice to visit somewhere different.
Morning everyone, hope all is well, Joan, hope you have some positive news with son in laws hand and it’s not too badly injured, how are you healing, your surgery was so recent and you have had all the terrible stress of bereavement etc to deal with, hope your appointment goes well today.
Rosie, onwards and upwards, you are free from bandages and things are moving on to next stage!
Have a good day everyone, am working this morning and then trying to sort out what to take to Norfolk: either thick jumpers or linen blouses!! Think I will need both, but particularly the jumpers I think!
Afternoon everyone, slightly less frantic day today. Lisa I am working 4 days a week now till the beginning of September, then I will see if I am able to cope with full time. It’s great your rads are nearly over, and that you can think about going back to work.
Rosie I hope you are feeling better again today, and enjoy your nurse visit. It really seems as though you are getting there. I don’t do any gardening on work days as I do not have the energy, bit did some last weekend and hope to do some this weekend as well, but decorating is the priority!
Lovewine, it’s good you are getting ready for your break, definitely warm jumpers I think. It sounds like a lovely spot.
Joan I hope you are doing OK today and have good news.
Evening everyone, hope you are all ok? Have had a busy day- working and getting sorted out for Norfolk!
Happy to be going away for a couple of days as getting worried now at thought of surgery in 7 days!
Going to watch " who do you think you are " now, have a nice evening .x
Well yesterday was a strange day. Took one of the sleeping pills provided by the hospital after surgery then realised that a) they were double strength and b) I shouldn’t have had wine earlier in the evening. Woke up at 9.30 feeling rather woozy but pleased that it meant I only had a couple of hours to fill in before heading off to see the surgeon. Half a hour later the surgeon rang to cancel the appt because the results hadn’t come through. Lab over stretched he said. Several other people also affected. So it is likely to be another week before I know whether any further surgery will be needed. Rather than moping around and since it was raining heavily we decided to go into Bristol to an art exhibition at the museum and persuaded husband to try the Jamie Oliver Italian which is nearby. Had a wonderful meal, and exhibition was distracting if strange. All this time no news about son in law other than that he was still waiting to go to theatre. Heading off to see sister in law when my daughter rang to say op wouldn’t be till 6 so could we go over to help with the kids. Got home at 10.30. Good news is that the damage to my son in laws tendon was reparable and although he is in a cast and will need physio he should recover the use of his hand. So we’re very relieved although while he can’t use his hand or drive they are going to find it quite challenging to manage with two young children and my daughter having a demanding full time job. So the next few weeks should be interesting and probably involve quite a bit of grandparent duty.
Sorry no time to respond to your posts this morning, full programme of PICC line flush, nails then lunch with a friend who lost her husband a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully some time later today.
Joan, I had the same scenario at the start of all this- hospital rang to cancel my result appointment as we were driving there! I was inconsolable with stress and anxiety waiting to hear if I had breast cancer…they too were overstretched in the lab! Good news regarding S-I-Law although it will be hard for your daughter having to do everything!! Good luck too with grandparent duties! And hope you have good news with your results.
Rosie, thankyou for your wise words and you too Wildpurl regarding forgetting it whilst in Norfolk and take it day by day, and yes Rosie puts things into perspective with that poor young man and many like him with all the conflict in the world right now.
Wildpurl , hope you finish your cardigan and hope we have an Indian summer so you can wear it this year! Good luck with filling and decorating!
I am off to Norfolk early Saturday morning!!
Thanks Rosie, walking on the beach, with hubby and dogs, eating and drinking is what I enjoy!!
Blimey Wildpurl, I take my hat off to you doing a workout like that !! Well done! Don’t think I could manage it, hope you don’t ache too much tomorrow!
That’s good news Rosie, not so good you still have tight feeling though, hope it eases soon, radiotherapy soon too, light at the end of a very long tunnel !! You have a nice weekend too, must admit I am quite excited at seeing the seaside!! You will be plucking your eyebrows soon! Mine aren’t growing yet and my lashes are just stumps!!
Have a good weekend ladies whatever you are doing, hope you are all alright . X
Thanks for all your good wishes. Had a very long and leisurely lunch at a waterside restaurant in Bristol, got there about half 12, left at 4.30. Will now attempt to respond to as many of the posts as I can.
Lovewine, it must have been terrible having your appt to find out whether you had cancer postponed. I hope that hasn’t been the case with any of the other women who, like me, we’re expecting to have their results yesterday. I had assumed that they, rightly, would be given priority. My eyelashes are sparse and short too, it would be lovely to see some signs of growth and to be able to wear mascara again. Have a lovely time in Norfolk. It’s not an area I know but on the increasingly long list of places to visit. I hope it takes your mind off surgery. I found it all very straightforward and a doddle compared to chemo. Relieved to be able to take the dressing off at last yesterday and to be able to shower. Wound seems to be healing well though fairly numb still. A bit worrying that they had the wrong side down on your notes but I think that mistake would have been rectified when the surgeon sees you before the op. Mine put a big cross to mark which of mine he was operating on and checked it with me. Not exactly high tech but reassuring.
Rollicarpit. Amazing that you are so near the end of your radiotherapy and it is good to hear that you have had minimal side effects. And great news that the cyst has disappeared. Sorry to hear you still have some side effects, especially perhaps the hot flushes. I still have numb fingertips and the soles of my feet. Toenails seem OK but lost one fingernail so far. there is new nail but only halfway up. It is rather sore and looks hideous so am wearing a finger bandage. The woman who has been doing my nails reckons that at least another two will go. I am hoping they will do it sequentially otherwise I may finish up wearing gloves.
Jackie, what a shame about your changed surgery date and not being able to have the break you were planning. I suppose the only consolation is that it has been brought forward rather than delayed. I share your feelings about not wanting to go into the operating room still conscious. In my recent op I was put out in the anteroom. Perhaps that would be possible for you, even if it is not routinely done.
Rosie. Caterpillar eyebrows and chin hair! Isn’t life just wonderful. But good news about head hair and eyelashes. Also that you are now stitch free although it’s a shame that everything is still feeling very tight.
Wildpurl, that sounds quite some workout.
Hope everyone else is doing well. Enjoy the weekend. We are going to see a very gory play at Stratford. I think I may have to leave if it gets too bad.
Joan your lunch sounds lovely! Good that you are healing well, am reassured you found surgery not too bad! Did you have a drain in? Enjoy your play at Stratford: think I have seen it on t.v reporting that people were fainting at goriness of it all!!
Jackie, sorry your plans are scuppered, but sooner the better for surgery! Only a few days after mine… Enjoy your weekend and the show and particularly the shoe purchase- you certainly deserve it!!
Hi everyone, I am lounging on my hotel room bed too, looking out of the window at the sea!! Have been for a walk on beach and then pub lunch which was a large glass of Pinot Grigio and crab sandwiches, havnt had sea food since before I began chemo as not allowed it, really going to make up for it this weekend!
Jackie enjoy your weekend, it is nice to feel normal and forget we are ill, Rosie, hope you are ok, Wildpurl how’s the decorating going? Do you have to have radiotherapy? Can’t remember if you said or not.
Well, doggies are moaning for the beach again so putting on warm clothes and going to make the most of it!!
Evening all. Sounds like everyone is making the most of the bank holiday weekend. Wildpearl, I’m very impressed with your painting. I always hate doing the ceiling, it makes my arms ache even when I’m at full strength. I can’t imagine attempting that at the moment.
I’ve been using dark nail varnish on my nails since a started Tax. Up until now they have been in pretty good shape. However, in the last week they seem to be falling apart which is slightly painful and very annoying. I think my thumb nail may have broken right down at the base. So a put a plaster on it to stick it on and protect it. Unfortunately, I think some of the sticky bit of the plaster is now attached to the nail, so it is only a matter of time until the whole thing is going to come off. That’s not going to look good and I’m slightly concerned it’s going to be rather painful. Other thumb feeling quite tender as well, I think it may be about to fall off too.
Otherwise, feeling less tired in the sense that I don’t fall asleep on the sofa as soon as I sit down, but still very short of breath.
My Dad and step mother are coming to stay for a few days tomorrow, so will be busy entertaining them most of the week. Can’t believe the school holidays are almost over. In 2 weeks time we will be in the UK taking my 13 year old to boarding school for the first time. I was hoping to have enough hair to go commando by then, but I think that might be a little ambitious and as the weather seems to have got colder I think my head might be too cold to have nothing on it anyway. My 10 year old says my head currently feels like a hedgehog. Charming!
Hope everybody has a good nights sleep, whether at home or in your hotel room. Enjoy, night night

Morning everyone, Jackie, hope you are enjoying London!, Rosie how was your meal last night? So nice not to cook and clear up!
Wildpurl, how good it must be to nearly be back to normal and you too Lisa, it seems like ages away to me! Hope you enjoy NT outing and have a nice cream tea or cake too!
Lisa, Malvern sounds lovely too, enjoy antique hunting, my sister went to the big show at Newark last week and found some lovely bits and pieces- enjoy your break before work, how fantastic to see the end of all those hospital appointments and to be told such positive news by oncologist!! That’s so great.
Tij, enjoy your time with family visit, although it is very tiring having people to stay, your son must be very excited at his new phase in school life!
It’s a nice sunny day in Norfolk, so I think we will look around cromer and then I feel I may need to try more crab sandwiches for lunch washed down with a glass of chilled wine of course!! Enjoy your day wherever you are either at home or nights away!!
Your meal sounds lovely Rosie, hope the cats enjoyed their leftovers too, I used to read Malory towers too and st clares! Also Enid Blyton and famous five!! Happy days!!
On subject of nails, I have some of mine that look like they have a big blister underneath and are very tender.
