Wow, sounds like everyone is getting hair/wig brave!
I am off up to London tomorrow to meet my sister for lunch and go to a Headstrong session, hopefully they will help me work out what suits me and how to keep things on my head, the wind does worry me!
Great news that your day at work went well Angie, hope you didnā€™t crash and burn tonight before yoiur sausage sandwich was ready?!
fingers crossed for everyone getting a good nights sleep and a good day tomorrow

Hi to all the AAA, I started on FEC on the 15th April. Makes me laugh in some ways as I am Irish and FEC really does describe it allā€¦I am now day nine and have been very lucky and have had very few s/e. prior to starting treatment I had to have 3 front teeth out as I had an underlying infection, which they thought would be too dangerous so out they came!!! That really hit me more than the thought of losing my hair and everything else. Fortunately now over that, and knowing I will not get a bad infection has helped. MY dentist though gave me some prescription toothpaste DUPHAT 5000 which should help my teeth during chemo, plus the corsadyl. Hopefully this may help others with dental problems. On the bright side my grandaughter really loves the wig and is most disappointed each day she comes around and finds that granny still has hair! This is such a great site, lovely to be in touch with you who now exactly how you feel. x

FEC-T cycle 1 day 7
hello ladies, today is going to be a positive day, Iā€™ve woken up for the first time in a week feeling, quite normal, so fingers crossed thatā€™s the worse done with till the next cycle. My scalp is very itchy but the hairs hanging on in. Had a really sore mouth yesterday but ice lollies and mouth wash, not together, i might add, seem to be sorting that out.
Philomena, my son sounds like your granddaughter, he seems disappointed every day when he comes home from school and my hair is still intact.
Southpool its lovely to read how youā€™ve got through this and come through it stronger.
Amber, good luck now your on cycle 2, hope your s/e are managable.
Can I ask, the ladies that have had cycle 2, do you think the symptoms are worst, or better than cycle 1.

FECT cycle 1 day 8
Thereā€™s gremlins about again- I posted this morning but it seems to have disappeared.
After a few days at home feeling very tired Iā€™ ve found myself back in hospital after randomly checking my temperature and finding it to be 38.3. The mad thing is I felt ok apart from the tiredness. Iā€™ve had some antibiotics and feel the best Iā€™ve felt today. Hopefully Iā€™ll start to turn a corner now.
Southpool - thank you for your encouraging post.
Lori - keep your chin up. Every new cycle brings you closer to the end.
Itā€™s good to hear that many of you are coming through the worst of your cycle.
Take care
Mel

Fec-T Clycle 1 day 16
Morning Angels. Hope youre all feeling well. My best friend clippered my hair yesterday after a glass southern comfort. Lori, like you I dont like looking in the mirror either and it feels sooo weird.
Debra like you I had long hair before the pixie. Canā€™t wait for the wig now and really wished I had got my butt into gear much earlier like the rest of you ladies. I really had no idea how I was going to feel until the hair was on the floor.
Christine your wig story made me giggle and Pauline your post gives me hope when I get mine and I also loved Broadchurch and canā€™t wait for the next series.
Debra you look fab in your photo.
Moira am going to check Bohemia website. Also my freind who had her 2nd cycle 7 days ago feels no different from the first.
Lets hope thats the case for all of us and that all the SEā€™s have been sorted for the second round. Mines on Tuesday.
Lv n Hugs to all angels. Sandy. xx

EC Cycle 1 day 10
Morning everyone hope you all had a good nights sleep and are coping with the SEā€™s ok.
I had a great day yesterday, I felt like me pre-diagnosis. I put a list together of all the things I that I never had time to do, or got around to doing when I was working. Hopefully over the next few months , before i go back to work, I can manage to work my way through the list. This weekā€™s list is

  • Make my first loaf of bread

  • Bake an unusual flavoured cake ( Iā€™m thinking courgette and lime or chocolate and beetroot)

  • Start researching my family tree ( been wanting to do this for years!)
I know that the next few days is when I am most likely to pick up infections etc so iā€™m not going to mix with many people.
Iā€™m really looking forward to next weekā€™s list

  • Booked a Liz Earle facial ( a wonderful get well pressie from my nephews and nieces)

  • Lunch with an old friend

  • Bake another loaf (soda bread is the favourite at the moment)

  • Quiz night at the local with Tony (husband) and friends
I think it will do me good to take the focus off chemo, etc. and it will help with the boredom thatā€™s starting to kick in.

FEC-T Cycle 1 day 14
Hello there,

Havenā€™t posted for quite a while but have been following your progress . Hope you are all OK and not suffering too badly from side effects. The anticipation was definitely worse than the reality for the first round of chemo. Was a bit sick the first day so will be getting different anti-emetics next time. Hair still intactā€¦ for the time being

Kim G
Good luck with the family history research - I do a bit now and again and hope to do some more particularly on the low immunity days.

Mel A

Hope you are OK and out of hospital soon

Take care

Nora

FEC T, Cycle 1 day 17 (I think!)

Hi all, feeling good again today. Off to visit one of my best friends who recently had a gorgeous baby girl who I have not seen yet due to having the cold - canā€™t wait!
Kim - loving the lists, not sure about the unusual bread though lol! I have been using Liz Earl cleanse and polish, toner and moisturiser for a few years now and absolutely love it
Sandy - you look gorgeous! Iā€™m sure Iā€™ll wear Molly (the wig, named by my daughter!) now and again but much prefer the scarves and hats. I got some lovely ones from annabandanna, scarf hut and bohemia - gorgeous colours etc for the summer (if we every get one in Scotland!)
Mel - Nightmare! hope you are freed soon :frowning:
Judy - glad you feel better today, long may it last
Philomena - sorry about the gnashers, hopefully you can get some nice bridging crowns(I know how you feel, my teeth were my biggest concern as have crowns and intended to get them all replaced this year. Then got BC dx and thought it wouldnā€™t happen however, just managed to get them all done before chemo started and really pleased with the results)
Debra - wine really does help with shaving the head, would highly recommend to others
Kim - you use it now as it stimulates growth and may prevent fall out!

Hope everyone else is well
Pauline xx

KIM I love the lists idea, will have to pinch this  Paul Hollywoods recipe for Soda bread is on the BBC website and is very good.
PAULINE I had all my treatment due to start on the day I was diagnosed with BC! Will have them all sorted when treatment finishes. There bottom teeth so not very noticeable! Still canā€™t whistle though
The toothpaste I was prescribed by my dentist is Duraphat 5000 and she gave it to me as it is very high fluoride concentrate to prevent any dental problems, it may help others.
hope you all have a good day x

Yeah freedom. Theyā€™re letting me go home and I actually feel quite good today

Great news you have been released Melā€¦are you just on parole or free?
I have had a great day, met my sister in London and went to Guys Hospital for a Headstrong sessionā€¦if you havenā€™t had ne I highly recommend it if you can get to one. You get to try loads of head wear to see what suits you and what doesnā€™tā€¦we laughed a lot and Iā€™m sure the 2 ladies running the session were wondering if weā€™d been drinking! My sister did take some photos that are definitely not for public consumption as I think Little Britain was mentioned!
i am pretty tired out now but looking forward to a rest day tomorrow before wig shopping on Saturdayā€¦
I Ewanā€™s given Duraphat 2800 toothpaste by my sister who is a dental hygienist, apparently it helps preserve the enamel on your teeth through chemo.
hope you all continue to feel well and stay SE free.

EC cycle 1 day 8
Evening Angels,
Iā€™ve had a really good day today. Been out for a long lunch with my two daughters, baby granddaughter and OH - younger daughterā€™s birthday. OH was driving, as was older daughter who had to pick up kids from school, birthday girl is 8 months pregnant so Iā€™m afraid there was only one person who could finish off the bottle of wine. Need a nap now! Iā€™m due to go to the pub quiz with some friends later this evening. Will have a quiet day tomorrow as low blood count starts kicking in.
Sandie, the caps/hats arrived very promptly from Bohemia. Theyā€™re ok if you like that sort of thing but the Ā£4 one with the tie at the back is v. small.
Kim, I tried Nigel Slaterā€™s chocolate and beetroot cake and I wonā€™t be trying again. My daughter did a lovely lemon and rhubarb cake for her dadā€™s birthday.
Bobbies Girl, sorry meant to respond - Iā€™m in West Yorkshire and, in fact, I was in Meadowhall on Tuesday!
Iā€™m going for my regular monthly facial tomorrow. Last month I had to tell my facialist that I was due to start chemo. Tomorrow, Iā€™ll have to tell her that the next time I come I wonā€™t be needing the hairband!
Wishing everyone a peaceful evening
Moira xxx

Just popped in from the February Valentines to see how you are all doing. Well, I hope. Had my first Tax after 3 Fec on 11th April. Ended up in hosptal with neutropenic sepsis. Really nasty, so I hope you are all taking note of your temperature and how you are feeling. As I reacted so badly to Tax, oncologist is putting me back of Fec - canā€™t say Iā€™m sorry. Hereā€™s my daft poem about it.

_ I was rushed to hospital _
_ sick as can be. _
_ The thermometer read _
_ almost 39c! _
_ Immunity ZERO!!! _
_ We couldnā€™t have that, _
_ so on to IVs _
_ at the drop of a hat. _
_ It was TAX that drove _
_ all my white cells away _
_ so Iā€™m having no more _
_ I donā€™t want to play!! _
_ I chewed my black nails _
_ with a feeling of dread, _
_ ā€œYouā€™ll go back on FECā€ _
_ the oncologist said. _
_ So I dumped my black varnish, _
_ itā€™s now in the bin. _
_ Iā€™ll continue with FEC _
_ take it all on the chin. _

_ Kath xx _

Moira - sounds like you had a lovely day, its good to have fun and not feel bad.
Amber - thought my hubby had taken a leaf out of your ones book today when the florist arrived at my door with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, but they were from my little brother, they really picked me up. Hope you are doing ok, hows the nausea this time? Regarding cravings guess who went for salmon on her way home from Banff last wk! My other craving is super noodles!?!?!
angie - i had a lot of bother with my tongue during my 1st cycle and landed up getting a script for gel to treat oral thrush. My mouth was nothing short of awful despit cleaning my teeth religiously and using corsodyl daily too. Its maybe worth having someone look at it.

Pauline xx

oh and ps in terms of cravings, I donā€™t really have a sweet tooth but my god, since starting chemo I now eat so many things I didnā€™t before -choc bics, cakes, sweetsā€¦dreading what size Iā€™ll end up after this although so far have pretty much stayed the same thank goodness. Long may it continue ā€¦

Have a great weekend away Pauline, Iā€™m having a half pint of Guiness rather than wine - for medicinal purposes only!
