Hi Everybody, Kath I can really sympathise with you as I have just spent the last 4 days in hospital with Neutrapenic Sepsis! I looked like I had mumps on Monday and my tonsil on one side was like a golf ball! IV antibiotics, lots of saline, codeine, blood thinning jabs etc etc. My arm is like a pincushion now! It was so nice to come home today and I can’t wait for my own bed tonight! I hope my next cycle (next week) isn’t going to be a repeat performance because I can’t do all this each time!!
Kath, I love your poem! I’m going to write it in my little chemo diary!
Take care all and hope you have a SE free weekend. Karen xxx

Hi Everyone
I saw Oncologist yesterday tea-time they have decided on my poison. It was a joint decision by the whole oncology team since I had the “hard stuff” last time and you can only have a certain amount of the same Chemo in a lifetime. I am having my first infusion of Carboplatin with Herceptin tomorrow. The blood team had trouble getting a vein as mine are small it seems. I have also been told that even after all of this IT could come back. It had better think twice before trying I tell you! Anyway I am waiting to hear if they are going to put me back on Ramipril for my heart before I have to have it this time.
PrimroseHill and Pauline Don’t worry about the hair loss it will start to grow back as soon as cycle 6 is done. It will be thicker and probably curly mine was and I loved it. You also have more fun trying out all types of styles whilst it’s re-growing. Iwould never heve had the courage to have had a GI Jane cut but was told I really suited it. By the way I get to keep mine this time around or so I’ve been told. Also PrimroseHill and Moira , you are not far from me, you can get fab wigs at great prices on Barnsley semi open market. I have 3 I bought in 2010 you cannot tell it’s not your own hair because it has a filament in (looks like a scalp parting). When I was wearing a wig my daughter and her cousin had been bought those mouse like toys for Christmas. My husbands brother put my wig on one of them and it ran around the living room. The kids thought it was hilarious and my sister in law thought it a great way to clean her laminate flooring.
AmberD I kept a diary last time and have started referring to it since my new dx. I am now onto my 4th Journal.
Good night all sleep peacefully. Alex x

Debra
just wanted to say good luck Debra, another one down, u go girl, we’re all with you,
big hugs xxx

Hi everyone,

TCH day 18 cycle 1

I’m still here (thanks for asking, Amber) and have been reading the threads but didn’t seem to have much to contribute. Side effects still very minimal but after the neutropenia sepsis I am now obsessed about every tiny temp fluctuation and germs! I am feeling quite down today, and have nil concentration at times, even had tears at the supermarket checkout for no reason whatsoever. Very unlike me. Hey ho, onwards and upwards.

Mamakaz - so relieved you have been released. We can compare notes next week if they keep us on the same timetable.

Alex - I’m also on Carboplatin (with taxotere and herceptin). I was told minimal hairloss with carboplatin. I’m day 18 and it is coming out gradually but no bald patches yet. This will be the tax.

Good luck to everyone and hugs, Linda xxx

EC Cycle 1 day 11
Morning Ladies,
well I can recommend kneading dough for getting rid of aggression and frustration and for toning up the bingo wings. First attempt at a bloomer turned out really well, even if I do say so myself. Have decided that this week’s cake will be courgette and lime, I’ll keep you posted on how it turns out.
My wig should arrive either today or tomorrow so I’m going to book myself in at the hairdressers to get the fringe trimmed etc early next week. I’ve not had too much hairloss at the moment, although my hair is like straw and unmanageable at the moment, if it does start to come out over the weekend, I may get it shaved at the same time.
Linda - Glad to hear from you, I was a little concerned that you hadn’t posted for a few days. I must admit since your earlier post i religiously take my temperature twice a day and I would also be a bit obsessed about germs, etc if I was in your situation. Hope you feel a little bit better soon.
Karen - glad to hear you are home, hope you are feeling better.
hope everyone else is ok and looking forward to a nice weekend

E CMF cycle 1 day 8
Hi all
It’s a few days since had a look at the forum as I have been feeling so continuously sick, despite all the medication. Finally yesterday the chemo unit said come in to the ward ,to see if they could sort it out. 7 hrs later managed to effect an escape (11 pm!) with a ‘range ‘ of different drugs. Feel a bit better today so fingers crossed. They said some people do just feel terribly sick all the way through, I’m really hoping that’s not me. Interestingly I was hideously sick when I was pregnant, right up to the births, in and out of hospital with hyper emesis and on a drip. There is supposed to be a correlation… the up side is while i was there they checked bloods- ok, and flushed PICC line so hopefully I can stay away until next week. I’m now knocking any expectation of being able to work on the head ( I’m an early years teacher) and giving in to being ill for the rest of the year.
Debra hope it went well today- another one down.
love to everyone .

Angiepops
I’ve got Difflam mouth wash on prescription and it seems to be very good. no mouth problems yet, mind you no taste either!

Hi everyone,
I’m having another good day today. Hopefully I’ve turned a corner. Hopefully a full release without parole Kate.
I forgot to mention that my OH shaved my hair on Wednesday. It is now very short -Sinaed O’Connor style. Everyone says it looks ok on me, which is just as well because I keep forgetting to put my hat on when I go out. God help me next week when it goes completely! We’re having building work done at home at the moment, but fortunately the builders have a sense of humour so we’ve had a bit of a laugh about it. I made myself a jailcard to match the hairdo too!
Angie - Corsodyl has helped me with tongue problems, though it does leave it a bit numb. The Dr told me to water it down if my mouth is sore.
Kath - I loved your poem. I hope you and Karen are feeling better now.
Amber - I’m glad your 2nd cycle is going ok.
Pauline - enjoy your weekend away.
Moira - I hope you enjoyed your facial.
Alex - Poor you, going through this twice. That’s more than enough of your share.
Linda - It’s good to hear from you again. I think the odd teary moment is allowed considering what we’re going through at the moment. You’ll have the odd bad day, but hopefully plenty of good days too. Big hugs xxx
Have a nice weekend everyone.
Mel

hi girls,
update on the mouth situation - got to hospital, saw 2 docs pronto quick, no infection suspected side effect, possible not very good bacteria thing going on but no antibiotics just a fungicide pill for a couple of weeks and a gel mouthwash and bloods were good so i’m delighted and looking forward to catching up on the meals i’ve missed,
the corsydol was like drinking acid, so i can water down weak until my tongue recovers - thanks mel
going to try to get this difflam, prevent this on next cycle - thanks maisiecake
pineapple ice cubes freezing as we speak thanks katebil
thankyou for all your comments, they were really helpful.
yum yum yum ouch!

Great news you are on your way to eating again Angie! I have Duraphat toothpaste too, might be worth checking if your dentist can get some as it may help also - my sister got me some and I saw someone else got some from their dentist.
Have a good weekend and eat plenty of what you like and doesn’t hurt!

Angie - glad you don’t have an infection, I make ice lollies from pineapple juice, nice and yummy
Hope you all have a lovely s/e free weekend xxx

Mamakaz, glad you got out. I never had any serious problems with Fec, just the flippin’ Tax. So hopefully when I go back on Fec, I will continue in the same way as I did before. Glad you like the poem, if it brings a smile to your face it’s something.

Oral thrush is a common problem on chemo, I get it every time. This time I got a pack of mouth wash I had to mix and rinse four times a day. I’ve saved some for next time.

I also keep a cancer diary, and I got a (free) organiser from Macmillan. I’m lucky in that we have a Macmillan outlet in my hospital, but if anyone is interested in getting one, you can order them from the Macmillan website, but I think you have to sign up to the website. Take a look here: be.macmillan.org.uk/be/s-435-macmillan-organiser.aspx

Kath

good evening angels
just back from the hairdresser, grade 1, done, no trauma (yet), she wouldnt accept any money so i’m donating it to my daughters race for life fund.

angie xx

Well done Angie, it’s not so bad is it, I think the thought of doing it was much worse, I am sure you look gorgeous in your wig xxx

Well done Angie, i felt the thought of it was worse. I also thought that by making the decision of when my hair came out made me feel like i was in control not the cancer! it can be really hard to tell the difference between real hair and wigs now because they are made so well. Im sure you will look fab!
Take care Christine
