Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

Hi Mel,
Well done for taking control! My friend shaved mine and just did a number 1, I’ve still got stubble 2 weeks later.
Get some Alhoe Vera gel or lotion to soothe your scalp. It’s a shock to see yourself for the first time but I actually prefer it to my pixie cut, it feels empowering I hope you will too, sending you big virtual hugs xxx

TCH cycle 2 day 4

Like many of you, hubby clippered off the rest of my hair this afternoon. I had it cut to a close crop weeks ago in readiness and had got used to it really short, but now it’s just stubble. And grey stubble at that. Poor love, he was dreading doing it. He didn’t want to make a mess of it!!! Bless him. I feel wondeful and liberated, and quite like my new look. Who am I kiddding.

Diggy - sorry you had such a rough time and got incarcerated

Good luck to everyone doing the Race for Life.

Worst side effect is still the diarrhoea/bowel cramps, but that is better than many of the other ones many of you are experiencing…

Have a great weekend, Linda xxx

Hi Mel
I had my hair shaved off yesterday, I was a little shocked at first but surprising I got used to the new me pretty quickly. my hair is sticking to my scarves, which for some strange reason, reassures me that the scarf isn’t going to fall off ;D .
I went for my onc appointment today and the young girl who took my bloods asked me where I got my hair coloured as they had done a really good job with the highlights, when I told her it was a wig, she said you definitely couldn’t tell, which really perked me up
Diggywiggy - so sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough time.
Katie and Amber. - well done on joining the race for life.
Moira - hope you had a good time in Newcastle. Well done with resisting the clippers and in the new wig.
Hope everyone has a good bank holiday weekend.

Well this is the photo taken this evening. Will try another in a couple of days time. Moira x

ECMF cycle 1 day15

Well done all you angels who’ve had an encounter with the clippers today. Mine has been falling out in handfuls all day and I just couldn’t leave it alone so oh and best friend cut it to a no 4 with a bottle of champagne and teenagers taking photos. Hope they don’t end up on facebook! I feel liberated and the wig feels much better now.

Mel, sending love and hugs to you, namesake. I’m going to try olive oil on mine, because scalp is so dry and itchy. It might soften stubble too ?

Sleep tight all

Mel X

FEC-T cycle 1 day 16
theres quite a few of us took the plunge yesterday with the clippers. It is quite liberating isn’t it Mel. I too had my teenager daughter around with her friend videoing it while hubby went mad with the clippers. my head feels like a baby seal.
i don’t normally wear much makeup but I do feel the need to wear some now, just so I don look like a total dude.
have a great day angels judy x x

AC cycle 2 day 4
Morning ladies
i know the freedom feeling having gone to stubble yesterday, but its a bit chilly around my ears this morning! Another good night with no SE’s, I’m feeling very very lucky and hope it continues. Awake at 6am so an afternoon nap may be on the cards later!
my parents are popping by this afternoon on their way back from a 2 night break so I’m expecting more strange comments from them…they don’t seem to understand why I am not sitting in a corner being a bumbling wreck and how I can just get on with life around the treatments…ho hum!
Hope you all have good day and keep the SE’s at bay.
Katie and Amber, good luck with the race for life, one day I’ll maybe do it…not this year though!
Kate

Kate, Judy, Mel and Linda congrats on taking the plunge, it’s very liberating! Judy, loving the pic
Have a good day girls xx

Thanks for the support and tips ladies. It’s definitely easier knowing that we’re not alone in this. On the bright side my hats are more appealing now I have to wear them. I bought one of those headband scarves from annabandana and really like that one.
Have a nice weekend ladies. xx

FEC T Cycle 2 day 2
All went well yesterday, in and out in under 2 hours. Was late pm so didn’t take a steroid last night and slept quite well. I got somew sleeping tabs from doc and intend to take them next 2/3/ nights while still taking stroids. Got a bit of a shock when they handed me my prescription for my stroids for when i move to ‘T’ on clycle 4 - 4 steroids twice a day - I’ll be flying and really worried about the sleep side. I’ll need to have a look at feb/march threads to see how the ladies got on with this. Left ward yesterday armed with Difflam and fluconazole for mouth so hopefully won’t be half as bad as last time. Amber - fluconazole is very good for furry mouth. (ps. hope you are feeling a bit more ‘up’ now x
Oh and mentioned my leg pain, was told not to worry as not likley for bone mets to appear in shin area, mmm…will see if it persists and will take from there…

grr! lost bit of my post!!!

All the ladies who took the clipper plunge - well done. I too have patchy stubble and the scarves can stick a bit but easily adjustable
Diggy - sorry to hear you ended up in hospital, hope you are feeling a bit better now x

Have a great weekend everyone and hope the weather is kind 8)

Pauline xx

Pauline, pleased to hear that it didn’t go too bad yesterday, I have been looking out for a post from you as I’m keen to know how cycle 2 went so I know what to expect.
Mel A I love your photo.
Thanks Amber, have a good day ladies xx

Hi Pauline,

Steroids - take your last ones as early as possible, between 2 and 3pm. By bedtime they will have worn off enough to let you sleep. This means taking your first lot early though so you get at least 6 hours between doses. You must take these on TAX because they are given to help avoid an allergic reaction to the infusion, and you must take them with food. I find a banana good for this.

My worst poblem with TAX is diarrhoea, so get some Imodium in.

Linda xxx

Kim,

sorry to hear that. I think my RA hasn’t been bothering me on chemo because it is an auto-immune disease and when your immunity is low, it can’t attack your joints. Oddly though my Sjogren’s and Psoraisis have got worse!! Can’t understand that.
Have you asked about Ibuprofen 400? I took it first when I had a little misadventure with my one and only Tax. I’m still using it just in case as it comes in handy to relieve pain when on injections. It might help you a bit with Osteo.

Take care, Kath xxx

Hi everyone
Today I ventured out wearing one of my scarves as it was too warm for my wig, no-one seemed to take much notice of me, which was good, as after about 1/2 hour I totally forgot I had it on. I’m like you Judy I have to wear makeup now I’ve no hair. I also have to wear a pair of earrings.
stocked up on the ginger biscuits and liqourice ready for Cycle 2 on Tuesday. Onc has written up some difflam for the sore mouth as he says the cordyson is too harsh.
Pauline and Linda glad the SE’s aren’t too bad on cycle 2
Moira - love you picture, you seem to have held on to lots of your hair, hope it stays until after your birthday
Judy - love your new pic.
Kate - hope your parents visit goes well. They never react how you to expect them to do they. When I showed my mum new wig she said " it’ nice love but I still prefer your own hair " - so do I mum, but it’s not an option open to me at the moment !!!
Have a great Saturday night everyone
Kim x

Linda - yes will def be taking them as early as I can…
thanks Judy - i just checked my notes from cycle 1 and it was day 2/3 I started to feel bad with a really horrid thrush and sore gums. I’m armed this time with fluconazole for thrush which i started taking today and Difflam for sore mouth as well as cordasyl mouth wash so hoping I will catch things really early. I also picked up a cold on day 3/4 which lasted about 2 weeks and floored me so really hoping I stay bug free this time
Re Eye brows - a tip for drawing on is to use a slim pencil and lie vertically at both ends of your eye and mark a dot on your brow line, then do the same across the centre of your eye and mark a dot higher up, this will be your arch point - then join the dots using ‘feathery strokes’ if using a pencil or shade in if using a wax and powder combination. Be aware, I haven’t actually tried this as still have my brows but got the tip at LGFB workshop.
I metioned in a previous post that I got Talika Lipocils from Space NK for my lashes. I have been using this for about a week now and have not lost any,in fact, I think some are actually growing! I was also told you can use this on your brows which I have also been doing and not lost any there either. I know its early days for brow and lash loss but so far so good

hi all
just been reading, everyones getting sheared it seems today,
judy - you look so cool!
kim - ive found my head sticks to the pillow at night so ive got to wear a liitle black cap, very soft but just stops that rubbing. love your scarf.
kate - hope your parents visit went well. Just shaved my legs again! maybe i’ll save them and make them into eyebrows !!
Amber - i had fluconozole, its good, although i have to say the furry mouth has never gone away properly. I found coke helps freshen the mouth up a bit, makes you burp though.
Lola - its not easy when you look in the mirror is it, i felt a wee bit odd for a week or so, got used to it now.
maisiecake - how brave are you, in front of teenagers, wow! You so remind me of someone i used to work with, i had to look twice when i first saw your pic.
went to hospital again this morning, got good bloods, no signs of anything wrong so doctor said its just fatigue, only just seem to be waking up after 3 days of kip! got to reduce my days at work now to 4, so i should feel a bit better now.
good luck race for life ladies and girls

AC cycle 2 day 4
Evening ladies
Sounds like everyone is doing okay again, long may it continue.
My parents came and on the way from the station (1 mile journey) my dad asked me ‘how are you’, ‘really how are you’, ‘really how do you feel’…he doesn’t understand that I might be doing okay! Then we were talking about hats/head wear and he said ‘well I’d be fine taking a hat off that I was wearing where ever I was’…yes dad you haven’t had much hair for years! Kim - I think your mum and my dad would get on well!
Angie - like the idea of collecting leg hair shavings for eyebrows, maybe I need to consider that as legs aren’t losing hairs but eyebrows seem to be thining now!
I’ve fancied pea risotto all day since watching a cookery programme this morning where they had pea shoots on a dish - luckily I managed to persuade my OH that we needed to have it for dinner! I think he thinks I’m pregnant really with all the odd things I fancy! He does like me having Guiness though as he gets the other half of the can so its not all bad!
Hope you all have a SE free night and a good day tomorrow
Kate

Hi everyone,
I’ve just come across a fantastic video which shows you how to make fake eyebrows
look realistic. I can’t copy the link from my phone, but if you look up
EyelineHerBlog on youtube she shows you all sorts of tips with scarves and makeup.
Let me know if you can’t find it and I’ll try copying the link on the computer.

Hi Ladies, I found this on the March thread - Really made me smile
For years and years they told me, Be careful of your breasts.
Don’t ever squeeze or bruise them. And give them monthly tests.
So I heeded all their warnings, And protected them by law.
Guarded them very carefully, And I always wore my bra.
After 30 years of astute care, My gyno, Dr Pruitt, Said I should get a Mammogram “OK,” I said, “let’s do it.”
“Stand up here real close” she said, (She got my boob in line),
“And tell me when it hurts,” she said, “Ah yes! Right there, that’s fine.”
She stepped upon a pedal, I could not believe my eyes!
A plastic plate came slamming down, My hooters in a vice!
My skin was stretched and mangled, From underneath my chin.
My poor boob was being squashed, To Swedish Pancake thin.
Excruciating pain I felt, Within it’s vicelike grip.
A prisoner in this vicious thing, My poor defenseless tit!
“Take a deep breath,” she said to me, Who does! she think she’s kidding?!?
My chest is mashed in her machine, And woozy I am getting.
“There, that’s good,” I heard her say, (The room was slowly swaying.)
“Now, let’s have a go at the other one.” Have mercy, I was praying.
It squeezed me from both up and down, It squeezed me from both sides.
I’ll bet SHE’S never had this done, To HER tender little hide.
Next time that they make me do this, I will request a blindfold
I have no wish to see again, My knockers getting steam rolled.
If I had no problem when I came in, I surely have one now.
If there had been a cyst in there, It would have gone “ker-pow!”
This machine was created by a man, Of this, I have no doubt.
I’d like to stick their balls in there, And see how they come out!!

Pauline xx
