Anyone due to start chemo in April? - Awesom April Angels

I’m up at stupid o’clock again, the last 2 nights I’ve woke in the middle of the night wanting the loo and then I havnt been able to go back to sleep, tonight, I’m back to indigestion. I’m keeping weirder hours than my teenage daughter at the moment.
linda that must be awful not being able to taste your food, I hope for your sake that s/e doesn’t last long.
Angie that wig looks great, it looks very natural, I can’t tell it’s a wig.
kate we have a holland and Barrett store in town so I will have a look there. I’ve just taken a diarrhoea tablet, I was given movacol for constipation but nothing for diarrohea.
philomena, good luck with the haircut tomorrow, I may join you as mine dropping out now. I suppose we are lucky that the weather is quite nice at the moment, it would be awfully cold going bald in winter, and it might be quite liberating on a warm summer day to have no hair.
kim the eyebrow stencils sound a good idea. I think I will take a photo of my eyebrows now so I know where to draw them in. My daughter often draws her eyebrows in as she went overboard and over plucked hers so I may let her do them for whie if they go.
good luck today Pauline

Seeing as I didn’t get to have my chemo this week, except for the Herceptin, I decided to have a couple of small glasses of wine last night. Big mistake! I feel like i’ve been run over by a bus today!. I think I’ll leave the wine alone for a while. One bonus though, leg hair has GONE! Ladygarden started going last week but thought I’d still have to shave my legs for the wedding this weekend. Only thing is, this blooming awful skin colour means I’ll still be wearing tights as I can’t be bothered to false tan my legs! Absolutely no chance of looking glam anyway as nails are shot at and eyebrows are also dropping out with a few eyelashes too. Anyway, rant over. Hope everyone else is coping with the SE’s and have a fab Bank Holiday weekend! Karen xxx

Hi eeveryone
I’m not sure how my new pic in my wig uploaded sideways, must have been holding the iPad sideways, will try again later today.
If anyone wants to try the eyebrow stencils I can order you a set and post them on to you. They are £2.99 and you get 4 different shaped stencils. Please let me know sometime today as they are collecting the catalogue tomorrow morning.
Judy - Up until last week I kept waking in the middle of the night, I found that reading a couple of chapters of a book helped me to drop off again.
Keely - love the pic, I have the one on the left, they are really comfy to wear.
Pauline - good luck today.
Kim x

Wakened at 5 today, must be coming out in sympathy with you Judy! Felt a bit teary n couldn’t get back to sleep so made myself a cuppa n went back to bed and watched a film. Fell asleep at 7 n woke gain at 9 feeling ok. Have a furry mouth today which is a new one for me
Karen my under hair is gone too and hardly any underarm boost! weeding the wedding
Kim your wig looks really natural, you’d never know. I ordered eyebrow transfer things online but have tried them, should be an experience or a laugh.
Keely, your pic is just lovely, so nice for your Mum to have all her girls round her
Pauline, go girl tick that box!
For those going away and those not have a great weekend, think we have sleet showers forecast here, the joys! Minimal s/e to all xxx

Morning Angels,

TCH cycle 2 day 4
(Docetaxel/Carboplatin/Herceptin)

Judy, We have the same irritating problem with the diarrhoea. My tummy churns and I have to go to the loo. OK for a while, then repeat. Then repeat and repeat. I asked at the chemo unit and was told to take Imodium as this is what they prescribe. It does work and it keeps it away all day. I take one after two episodes.

Keely, your picture looks great with you all modelling the bandanas. I just had a look at your profile and it seems your mum has a similar diagnosis to me - lumpectomy with clear margins, no lymph node involvement, and HER2 positive. Mine was grade 3 invasive ductal. However, I am on a different chemo regime to her. I am on TCH x 6.

Karen - leg hair gone? Wow, you lucky thing! Your hair and hairy bits are dropping out quicker than mine. I have only lost patches from my head after 2 cycles, but clippers will be out later as it looks such a mess. Enjoy the wedding.

Enjoy your weekend everyone and may you all feel well. Linda xxx

Thanks for tip off on the Imodium linda, I will have to get some, I took some tablets call diarrhoea stop in the early hours of this morning cos I’m sick of it now but I will get some Imodium if that’s what they recommended. I’m not sure if I have a urine infection too now or if is just cos I’m going to the loo that often with the other. But I keep checking my temperature and its fine so I know there’s nothing to really worry about. I’m trying to drink loads of water to flush whatever is up through me.
My bandana has arrived from annabandana today, it’s very nice, I think I will need it after today as the sheers are coming out later on, I’m fed up of hair dropping all over.
Keely your bandanas look fab, I look the one on the end on the left, very nice.
Amber it’s rubbish waking up in the middle of the night isn’t it. Have you got any of the Difflam oral rinse mouthwash Amber, that’s been really good, I got it on prescription from the chemo ward and it does seem to help a lot. I tried my normal brandof mouth wash but it was a bit harsh and I don’t think it helped at all.
kim your wig looks great, I think it looks very natural, how’re you getting on with it. I’ve been coming down and going on the Internet when I’ve woken up in the night, I have some drinking chocolate and sometimes a nytol then go back up to bed. Usually it’s my hubby that keeps me awake then with his snoring. I’ve put the sofa bed up in the playroom, so I can come back down and go in there if he’s really making a racket.
Are the wigs comfortable to wear or do they make your head itchy?

FEC-T cycle 2, day 2
Hi all. I’ve not posted for a while as I have been poorly but I’ve been reading all your posts and found them helpful and encouraging. Unfortunately on day 15 I ended up in hospital with a temp of 39 and neutropenic sepsis. My neuts were down to 0.22. It took them 40 mins to get blood out of small veins. So I now have a PICC line which is brilliant. The insertion doesn’t hurt at all. Bit scary but hospital knew what they were doing. Had a private room with TV. Bit lonely but oh visited every day and even son came in twice. My wonderful big sister & her hubby drove 200 miles to see me and back the same day. finally released after 5 days. As Linda and Karen both went through this I knew I was not alone and that kept me going. So thanks for sharing your experience.
My hair was really falling out and driving me up the wall in the hospital so got a friend to shave head as soon as I got home. Have my wig and scarves but find it quite liberating to walk around the house bald!
Got lots of additional meds for this cycle for sickness and sore mouth and injections for white blood cells. I haven’t been sick so far. Wearing my travel sickness bands.
Feeling fairly positive - had a tough time but I got through it. It will be easier this time. Will change my Picture soon when looking a bit better. Hope you’re all enjoying sunny weather and that you have lots of love and support from family and friends. Hope you all feel as loved and cherished as I do. Best wishes Diggy Wiggy.

I appear to have lost my message! Hope you all have a great weekend, it sounds really promising for a bank holiday weekend. Un fortunetly my neutrophils are only .53, so really hope they come up over the weekend or they will have to postpone my chemo on Monday for a week. Hair is coming off tonight, but as its so warm here quite looking forward to the cool head .
Philomenax

Hi everyone
just had to share this with you. Just been to the supermarket with my Oh, as we passed the head and shoulders he said “Do you need any as it’s on special offer?” Me - " Ermmmm no Tony I had my head shaved yesterday!" him - "sorry I forgot ". Don’t you just love them

AC cycle 2 day 3
Oh no, diggywiggy, sorry you haven’t been well, hope the white cell booster helps this time round.
Philomena hope your neuts rise over the weekend, maybe worth asking for the booster injections as they do seem to help.
the sun has been shining all day here so I sat in the garden letting my hair blow off my head and into the air! I suspect the birds nests around here are going to be well insulated now! I’m going to get my OH to shave later as its too thin and sore now.
I forgot to take my anti-sickness tablet this morning…haven’t felt sick so not going to worry and will take one before bed…perhaps I’m on a trial really and getting the placebo!
hope you all have a good weekend and get some reasonable weather

Oh Diggy,
so sorry you’ve really had a rough time, hopefully the extra meds etc will help you this time. Know what you mean about the shaven head, I prefer to walk round the house and garden with nothing on my head, just have to remember not to scare anybody.
Try and stay positive, you will get through this, enjoy the weekend n take it easy
Pauline, hope your ok n s/e not too bad
Philomena, hope your neuts rise in time or Mon, interesting that you had bloods today I always get old it has to be done without 24hrs
Kim, you made me laugh, I reckon we’ll get a few random comments like that for a while
Take care all xx

Kim,

What painkillers do you take for you arthritis and what kind of arthritis do you have. Sorry to be so nosy, but I have reumatoid arthritis and before chemo I was having weekly Methotrexate injections 25mls. Obviously I had to stop those before chemo began, but I was also taking Leflunomide 10mg which I continue to take. While on Fec, I haven’t had any problems with RA but when I had my one and only Tax, I was in awful pain. Glad they put me back of Fec for last two sessions.

Best Wishes Kath (February Valentine)

hi ladies

angie xx

Good Evening Angels,
Back from my jaunt to the far northeast and have just spent an hour or so catching up on all your news.
First I must say how wonderful your watercolours are, Judy. That’s some talent you have!
Karen, hope you’re going to get your chemo sorted asap. they’re sure to find a new concoction for you!
Sorry to hear you ended up in hospital, DiggyWiggy. Hope all goes well this time and at least you got 2nd lot!
Lola etc, the diarrhoea stories have made me smile and worry in equal measures. Oh the joys of BC treatment!!!
Looks like half of us are into wigs now. They all look really good. I intend to post one last picture of me with real, if short, thin hair. I’m on day 16 and it’s still hanging on in there. Started to shed a bit while in Newcastle so went and panic bought another wig. The women in the Natural Image shop there were all brilliant. So now I’m the proud owner of a shorter, blonder version of the current real me. My daughter rang this evening to say her husband’s hairdresser was coming round and did I want mine clippered. Sorry, but I’m a complete wuss! Too drastic for me. I’ve spent the last three nights sleeping in an old ladies hairnet. Every morning I wake up to find my hair still intact is a bonus. Oh, and I shaved my legs this morning while lying in the bath with loads of conditioner on the straggly hair!
Hope everyone has a bright and sunny weekend

Hi Kath
I have osteoarthritis and am due for a hip replacement as soon as I’m well enough after chemo and rads. At the moment I take maloxicam once a day and 30/500 co-codamol 4 times a day, but they aren’t working at the moment so I’m hoping the dr will Give me something stringer when I see him next week. The steroids that I take for the 3 days after chemo are amazing and I have no hip pain then it returns with a vengeance.
Kim

FECT cycle 1 day 15
Today’s the day! My head has been itchy and a bit sore today, with hair coming out at the slightest touch. I decided to brave it and ask my husband to shave it. All was going reasonably well until I looked in the mirror - big mistake. He then had to cope with my tears. The shaver didn’t clear it all so he tried a razor. The outcome being that my head now feels like velcro and my scarves keep sticking to it! Did anyone else experience this and how long does it last?
Diggywiggy I’m sorry you’ve had such a rough time. I hope you’re feeling better now. I’m glad they sorted your sickness meds out too as that is also an awful SE.
Take care ladies and good luck to those who are doing the race for life xx
