Anyone from East Kilbride/Glasgow area?

Just a quick post, as I’ve been suffering last few days with sickness and diarrhea bug. We’ve all had it and feeling really crap.Hope I feel better for Friday.
Helen - what a relief to finish chemo. You have done so well.
Sharon - hope you get on OK tomorrow.
Hope everyone else bearing up
Sheila

Hi guys,

Congrats, congrats, congrats to Helen for finishing Chemo and to Fee for finishing Rads. The end is in your sights now lassies after all you have been through this year. At least you will be facing 2010 as a clean sheet, and be all the stronger for it.

Very best of luck seeing Dr Dunn tomorrow haron. I am seeing her first thing, but I have decided to finish Tax. Hope no infections/comp;ications this time eh? Post us soonest to let us know what she says.

Best of luck too Caro; for your wee lad for Friday!!! I truly believe a trade is more useful than a degree (you can always get that later if you want) What trade is he going into? Fingers crossed for him. It’s great he’s got his mammie going with him for support, and that he loves you enough to let you!

I do hope you are well enough for Friday Shiela. (Hope I am!) My 2 nieces have that bug too and wee Carol has just started Uni and is already off. Poor loves are feeling wretched. They have had to have bowls at the side of the bed!!I had to take a bus from the 3 shop in Argyle Street to TJ Hughes on Monday. I felt 110, and my nephew was so worried! This bloody weakness!!!

Hope everyone is feeeling tickity boo and that we can meet soon.

Take care and sleep well my dear brethern.

Hopefully feeling better for lunch Friday xxxxx

Hi Girls
Just back from Dr Dunn, she has had meetings with other Docs at beatson who all agree that this bugger should be cut out first, so now see Mr Murphy tomorrow @ 11.10 to see if he can operate next week, my opinion it’s too big but will wait to see what he says.
If it is the case then it could have been done last week or this week!!

Oh and I’m a rare case.
Apparently there is a pill I could try aswell as chemo, called leukaran, she has written to Glaxo smythcline to see if they will authorise it on compassionate grounds, if they can’t then she will have to write to the government. It’s aal about money, there are so many drugs they can’t get on their budget.

Although I still don’t know what is happening, I will be getting either Op or chemo next week

Will still be on for lunch tomorrow just maybe nearer 1pm.

Maggie hope you got a sleep xx

Bye for now

Sharon xx

hi Sharon, cant believe that you might not get a pill because of some budget, you have been through enough without this bloody crap!!!

hope you get on ok tomorrow and find out whats happening

Maggie hope you are feeling better now.

hi to everyone else, has anyone heard from Yvonne?

love

Carol xx

Sharon - it’s disgraceful that money is considered. You are a young women with your whole life ahead of you. You have done nothing to get this horrible disease. Hospitals are full of people getting all the treatment they need for illnesses of their own doing. Hope you have got on OK with Mr Murphy. Maybe it would be better to get it taken out ASAP.
Maggie - Difflam mouthwash is good for mouth. You’ll get used to Hickman - it’s better than using veins.
Annie - what’s happening about Tax. Are they going to try something else.
Carol - hope your son gets on OK at interview tomorrow.
Not going to manage lunch as still feeling a bit rough. Haven’t really eaten much .
Have a great time and a wee glass of wine for me.
Love
Sheila

Hi Girls

Sorry I wasn’t able to make lunch on Friday - I was still feeling a bit rough from chemo so John insisted he drove me through to the Beatson for planning appointment. I think he’s feeling guilty as he isn’t able to take me to me first week of rads. I’d forgotten how busy and stressful it is driving down Great Western road!.

I couldn’t believe how young all the nurses seemed to be - or is it I’m just getting old!!! My centre wee black tattoo is doing my head in already as it just looks like a ‘black head’!

Anyway - this is just a quick note before I head to bed (have been sleeping on settee all night) I hope you all had a good catch up on Friday - I’ll definately be at the next one.

Take care all.

Helen

Hello Everybody,

Been a quiet old weekend on here!! It’s taken a couple of days to recover from Friday ( sounds bad doesn’t it?) but it was a great day!! really enjoyed a good old blether and maybe a wee bit too much of the vino!! maybe stick to breezers next time!! I can’t handle the hard stuff any more!!

Helen, glad your planning appointment went fine… I forgot to ask what date you start Rads? I know it’ll be somewhere on the thread… but I’ll come meet up with you… Hope the effects of chemo ware off soon and you get some energy back…

Carol, is this your last week of Rads? I’m getting a bit lost with time but it feels like it’s your last?.. how’s the skin holding up?How did you’re son get on, on Friday?

Yvonne, Hope you’re well??? recovered?(say no more!!!)

Sharon, How did you’re wee meal go Friday night was it nice? I did send you a PM about searching for Lapatanib on the site… hope it was of some use? if it is Capsitabine(wrong spelling!!)other name Xeloda, that is given along with Lapatanib…that is the chemo Sheila is on…

Sheila, Hope you are feeling better and your bug has gone… when will you be going back on chemo? have they told you yet?

Annie, Sorry we didn’t meet up on Friday… maybe we can get together at Maggie’s soon…

Speaking of Maggie’s did anyone see the plans unveiled at the weekend for the new centre being built at the Beatson next year… hopefully going to be opened early 2011… It was on the bbc web site. It looks very nice and will certainally be handy for the Beatson. I think they still intend to keep the original one open.

Maggie, How are you feeling today? I saw on FB you’ve been a bit sick… hope it passes soon…

I go to see a wig I’ve ordered today… here’s hoping it’s nice…I’ve grown very used to the one I’ve been wearing but I really need a replacement as the other one getting a bit loose…

Lots of love and big hugs to all

Fiona xxxx

Hi Girls

I’m glad you had a good time on Friday - sorry I missed it.
The new Maggie’s centre at the Beatson looks really smart, it’ll make a big difference having one there.

Fiona - I start rads next week on the 14th and will be there daily for 6 weeks, till 24th Nov so it’ll be reat to meet you for a coffee. I hope your wig fitting goes OK today. I’ve stopped wearing mine now, I just wear a bandana around my hair to hold my ‘comb-back’ in place as my hair is thin on the crown.

Sharon - have you got a date for surgery yet?

Take care all

Helen

glad to hear you had a good time on Friday, I really struggle with wine too now Fiona, blame the tamoxifen.

I finnish rads on Friday, start boosters tomorrow, cant believe how quick its went and cant wait until I see the back end of Great Western Road!!!

My son done well on Friday, he has been called back for a 3rd interview!!! you would think he was trying to get a job with the SAS!!! fingers crossed for him.

Helen, good luck for next week, im sure you will be fine, the travelling is worse than the treatment.

hi to everyone else

love

Carol xx

Hi Again,

Well got my new Wig… wot dy’a think?..I’m all chuffed with it, nice to have a wee change… Sharon Is really good, definately knows her stuff and is going to have a great wee wig business…she also provides after wig services such as cutting and the all important after chemo colouring!!! dealing in gentle treatments to be kinder to skin and hair!!

A couple of you already know that I have been interested in helping out in the wig side of things as a possible future learning curve, and Sharon is possibly willing to take me on and train me up so as I could maybe help her out in the future…who knows??? so I’m a happy wee chappie this afternoon, just need parents night to go with a bang and weyyy heyyy, a full house!!!

Well gang, that’s me up to date with my wee bit of news. Carol good to hear your Son is going back for another interview… will be keeping my fingers crossed!!

Hugs

Fiona xxxx

Fiona fab new wig, makes you look younger, hope something comes out of the wig cutting for you, good luck at parents night

love

Carol xxx

Hi Fiona

Your ‘new hair’ looks great, it really suits you. It’ll be fantastic if you could get some training in wigs from Sharon and maybe work with her. You’d be a really great asset having being through this crap experience yourself - fingers crossed it all works out.

Carol - I can’t believe you finish your rads on Friday - thats really great news.

I treated myself to a breast light today - so can’t wait to try it out tonight. I don’t know how good they are or whether they’re a good idea to have, but I guess I just need a bit of reassurance that I am doing everything I can and I’m just so crap at checking my breasts myself - I really don’t know what I should be looking for, which I know sounds crazy coming from someone who found a 1cm lump!

Anyway, I’d better go as John has made dinner, I hope everyone else is doing Ok.

Take care all

Helen

ps: had my hair cut last week so have posted a new photo - I’m just sooooooo chuffed it survived the chemo.

Carol, you’ll be so glad to be finished… it does go in quick doesn’t it? Get that holiday booked!!! it’ll give you such a boost…

Hi Guys

Sorry didn’t make it Friday, really disappointed. Mix up with 3 (India call centre) about my nephew’s upgrade (it’s his birthday pressie every year) so it had to delivered not picked up from the store. Waited from 8am to after 1pm and then fell asleep! I can fall asleep on the loo these days, so drained.

Well got TAX on Monday, reduced dose as I have such a wretched time and the numb fingertips and feet,(I have had the numb feet since spring and FEC but did’nt get the tingling, horribe numb finers) It might be permanent but TAX + Herceptrin is the ideal combo for my agressive cancer type and I figure anything that I can do to prevent it is worth it.

We only have to inject once now! New medication is slow release. And I got my dates for rads, so feeling things are moving on at last.

Fee - I so hope this works out for you. You would be a MASSIVE asset in the hair department, especially the aftercare. With your professonal background and your personal experience you will tick all the boxes. Not to mention your positive attitude and sweet nature. I was a bit schocked that Aidrianna stopped trading, she was a sweetheart so very busy. and I didn’t give 2 hoots about the hair loss at the time, but now that it’s growing back (havent lost most it during TAX - so far anyoldhow) it’s not my hair! Slow growing. Very! (I had to have it cut every 3 weeks pre BC) very curly and soft but wiry, and with grey I never had before. Very strange.

Sharon, the very best of luck for your surgery. I know it’s a blow, but isn’t it a relief when they get it out of you? I was euphoric, didn’t care what was left under all the bandages. And so very little pain or discomfort. I was telling a girl who was seeing the surgeon immenantly when meeting Dr Dunn last week and my sister said they were convinced I was getting too much morphine when in hospital, and I was mostly just on paracetamol and Volerol! You won’t be in so long or be so traumatic this time. Need you ward number if you have it.

You are all doing so well in your treatments - we have all come a long, long way this past year, and in some weird way, we will all be better, more focused and kinder people at the end of it. And we started out nice to begin with!

Carol well done to the lad for holding his nerve. It’s like the X-Factor isn’t it, series of interviews. He must be impressing the socks off them and I am keeping my wee fingers crossed. My dad’s brother is a cabinet maker and his 5 sons (Irish family, he also has 2 daughter’s) all became first joiners then builders are all living in houses worth £500,000 minimum. Charles says “all I do is hammer nails into wood”, but they have great businesses, lives - and seem to be recession proof! We over-educated buffoons in the family have been stuggling, myself big time this year, but I have learned how to manage money better and be a bit more frugal, which ain’t a bad old thing. I will never forget this time and I will think long and hard about what direction my life will take rather than reacting, so much time to think. They think it’ll take a while of recouperation for me, so I will be doing some volunteer work for the Blantyre Credit Union soon as I am able, and for the Haven till I am fully recovered. Then part time work as before and finish my CIS studies which has been on hold while I have been nursing my fears and chemo brain!!!

Shiela, if I can hold up this TAX - getting prophylactic antibiotics in case I get another infection - would love to meet for coffee in East Kilbride. I love the candles you can get for £5.99 - every bit as good as Yankee Candles and nicer jars, love the flowers and cushions and so well priced. Have bought loads as presents. And the flowers also look great on our loved ones graves. they look beautiful. And you can pick up a great wee buy from the Littlewoods clearance shop too.

Can’t believe my rads will be finished by January! I see an end in prospect. I thought Dr Dunn was amazing, she is ridiculously young, Irish and far too pretty to be a consultant, but every one thinks the world of her. I am seeing her for my pre-chemo next as she wants to ensure that I am ok. I bore myself by thanking god for the care and attention we get, and for our luck at being born in this country and in my catchment area, but I have found it very humbling.

Bless you all, sleep well and hope next meeting we are all up to it. Looks like we are getting there, but it takes time …
