Annie - When do you start your rads? just wondering if we will over-lap. I start mine on Tuesday for 6 weeks finishing on Nov 24th. I loved your comment ‘we have all come a long, long way this past year, and in some weird way, we will all be better, more focused and kinder people at the end of it. And we started out nice to begin with!’ - I couldn’t agree with you more!!
Carol - any news about your son’s job?
I had my last G-CSF this morning which was a huge relief. But, I can’t believe I am now having SE’s from my last chemo - mouth is agony!! my tongue feels like it is ulcerated all around the edge and I have a few ulcers inside my cheek and my neck is aching - arghhhh!.
Fiona, Sheila, Pauline, Maggie, Yvonne and everyone else - hope you are all ok.
I forgot to say - my ‘Breast-Light’ is fab. My boobs were glowing red last night as I tried it out - it was amazing. I’m not sure whether I really could identify any new lumps with this and self checking, but I guess I need it for reasurrance.
Just want to say good luck Sharon for tomorrow. Already been on FB, didn’t realise you’d put details on here. Hope to see you Saturday. Lots of Hugs!!!
Helen, good about the breast light, sounds good. I have so many cysts in my good boob I wouldn’t know what was what. Still don’t know how I’m going to keep a check on things without panicing!! Was looking into an annual MRI, might just be worth it for peace of mind.
Hi everyone, 18 down 1 more to go, all the nurses sang happy birthday to me, no celebrations until tomorrow for me, cannot believe how quickly its went!!!
My son is still awaiting his letter for his next interview, every day he phones from school to see if its here yet, anxious or what.
Carol,
Is it your 40th? Happy, happy birthday pet.
Are you up to celebrations. I know your boob has been sore with the rads, but nearly there! You wee lad sounds lovely. So many kids are loud wee thugs. But your’s sounds like a wee keeper. Thinking of him, he’s doing really well.
Helen, we will overlap by a week for rads. I start on the 17th. I was so excited!! Just want this chemo behind me! Would be great for you to give me the sp on your experience. I saw those light boxes and will prob get one. I tend to buy into techie stuff. Just watching the schekles, a new trip for me. My tumour felt like nornal tissue, even to my doc, and it was 5cm! They have told me I will be closely monitored…
That’s given me some consolation about Sharon. They must have caught it wicked quick. Here’s to Sharon and a grreat result. Does anyone have the ward no?
Hi girls - have had Jessica staying since Monday. Fiona and Gerry had a few days in London. They got home late last night.
Saw Dr Yusef on Tuesday so back on chemo on 19th. Taxotere and Xeloda. The tumour is growing and there is a lot of fluid in pelvic area and chest area. I look as though I’m 9 months pregnant. Thought I was just putting on weight. It’s my 60th birthday next tuesday (can’t believe I’m nearly an OAP) and having a girls night out following Saturday so Dr Y agreed to wait till after that.
It is a bugger but I just have to get on with it. Knowing what to expect is probably worse. Will have to stock up on water, porridge, pineapple juice, Movocol etc etc etc.!!
CAROL - hope your birthday was good and you enjoy a boozy weekend
HELEN - never heard of a breast light.
FIONA - are you enjoying time to yourself now that Rads have finished. It would be brill if you could do something with wigs. Some of the wig places are so old fashioned and depressing. You would be really good with all your experience. Give Sharon my love.
ANNIE - stick in with Taxo - it does work. Hope to meet up with you and discuss symptoms.
Hope everyone is OK today. Well, I’m finally suffering SE’s from my chemo, I guess it serves me right for telling everyone how well I’d done managing to avoid a sore mouth and ulcers throughout my chemo - bummer!. The sides and end of my tongue are all ulcerated and the doctor also thinks have a touch of thrush on my tongue, I can’t believe how sore my mouth is – I’ve had to use my diflam for the first time!. Fiona I have no idea how you managed to cope when you had all your mouth ulcers.
Carol – Happy Birthday, I hope you have had a lovely day. Good Luck tomorrow, your rads just seem to have flown by, how many weeks did you have? You have definitely have loads to celebrate this weekend.
Fiona – Apart from you and me who else is hitting 40 next year?. Tell Sharon I was asking for her, she’s just so brave.
Annie – I hope we manage to meet up on my last / your first week of rads, I’ll have to check my times.
Sheila – Are you exhausted after having Jessica to stay. Fiona is so lucky to have you so close. What a great doctor you have agreeing to delay your treatment until after your night out. The breast light is like a large digital thermometer, with 3 red lights at the head. You have to use it in a dark room and it illuminates your breast, anything suspicious is meant to show as a dark area, it’s really weird seeing your boobs glowing bright red!. I just needed to buy one for reassurance.
Congratulations Carol on finishing Rads, Great to get that out the way isn’t it? now you can relax a bit. Have you booked that holiday yet? Hope you have a nice day celebrating…
Helen, Sorry to hear the mouth has errupted!!! Cooled boiled salt water is fab for soothing it and keeping it clean…I swooshed with that before and after I ate…Difflam was good for numbing it just so as I could chew!!! Did you get facebook sorted yet? Pauline is the other fab 40 babe at the begining of the year!! so it’s going to be a busy old time!!
I’m hopefully off to see Sharon Tomorrow with Pauline so will pass on all your good wishes.
I’m going down to visit my brother next week on Sunday so looking forward to a wee break. I haven’t been anywhere since treatment started, feels like forever!! I’ll meet up with you Helen once I’m back.
I’m attempting to go back to work when the kids go back to school, not sure how I feel about it… confidence not quite what it used to be, but I’m sure I’ll be fine. I got a letter “inviting” me to a medical for my ESA after filling out the questionaire which is supposed to determine wether I need a medical in the first place? which feels a total waist of time, it’s as if they don’t believe me and there are lots of Docs, Oncs and physiotherapist phone numbers supplied by me…well I’m going back to work!! so they can whistle dixxy!! I hate feeling pressured by all these organisations, just to get a measly £80pw…(sorry, moan over!!!)
well meeting pal for lunch today as kids off doing their own thing…
I agree with you - it’s totally crap that we need to have a medical interview to keep getting ESA. They rang me last week saying the first appointment I could get was next week, but as I’ve got rads for the next 6 weeks they’ve agreed to postpone until beginning on December - which is crazy as I plan to go back to work in January.
Still to get back to FB. Hey - I think we should all have a big night out to celebrate all our 40th’s and getting through all this.
well thats me cooked, even fried in certain places, cant believe its all over, very strange feeling walking out of the Beatson today.
Fiona totally agree with you about going for a medical, my full pay stops next month but plan to go back at the start of the year so dont know if its even worth applying for it.
Helen, you will be fine next week with rads, worst part is the journey to get there.
thanks for the birthday wishes, hi to everyone else, im of to celebrate with a nice cup of tea!!!
thanks for all you support over the last few months, couldnt have done it without you, so glad I found this forum
Helen i got nystan liquid for mouth ulcers it was really good, they told me to use difflam just if my throat was sore. Not that it will help you now but i got calcium folinate tablets to take 24 hrs after
chemo and i haven’t had mouth ulcers since.
Congrats on finishing chemo same to you Carol no more rads and belated happy birthday.
Fiona say hi to Sharon, what is sharons surname so i can send a card?
What is ESA?
Sheila happy birthday on Tuesday have a good night out but watch out
for that wine it can be deadly.
Annie good luck with rads
