Hi ladies,

I’m Sarah, 37 and live in Paisley. New to this forum! Six months on from chemo/radiotherapy, just trying to cope with tamoxifen and zoladex hot flushes! Would do anything for a full nights sleep! Don’t know many girls cos have only lived here for a year.X

Hi Girls
How’s everyone ? hope everyone is doing OK.
I can’t believe that it’s a year today that I was first told that my lump could be malignant. Thanks to everyone for all your support during the last year– what a year!.

Sarah and Kim welcome to our group – it’s a bit quiet here at the moment, but everyone is really nice. It’s a shame you didn’t join us earlier as you missed our lunch at the start of the month, but hopefully we’ll meet up again soon.

Sarah – I finished my chemo end Sept & rads end Nov. I’m on Nolvodex (tamoxifan) and don’t even know I’m taking it – I’ve been really lucky. But next prescription I’ll need to go on a generic brand which I’m dreading as I’ve managed to avoid hot flushes so far. I can definitely sleep all night - if my wee girl lets me!!

Carol – Ozzy sounds just like Seren at the moment – she’s full of cold and kept me up most of last night.

Maggie – Do you finish your rads a week tomorrow ? and is it your significant birthday too??? Can you PM me your address so I can send you a card.

Fiona – Are you having a good time with your niece? Loved your squirrel video on FB.

Sharon – the baby photo’s were soooo cute, any news on a name?

Sheila & Annie – I hope your both OK and taking it easy.

Works going fine, although I’ve had a bit of a mental block the last few days as I’ve been trying to write my 1st report for 22 months – it’s been hard going, but I think I’m getting there slowly … very very slowly!!!.

Take care all

Helen

Hi Sarah,
I live in Paisley too. I am almost 10 years down the line so I know where you are coming from!! Stick in there, it gets a bit better.
Kim x

Hi Helen,
Thanks for the welcome. That is a shame I missed the lunch but hopefully will make the next one! I’ve never joined a forum before so please bear with me!

Hi Girls

A Big hello and welcome to Kim and Sarah, post anytime and we’ll answer back, our wee thread has been really good for everyone even although not everyone posts all the time.

Sarah - I know how you feel about not getting full nights sleep, I can’t remember last time that was, I not on Tamoxifen tho! My cancer is hormone negative, however I am on Zolidex at moment due to being on chemo again.

Well girls I am totally shattered!!! I’ve either not caught up with sleep from weekend or it’s due to all the excitement!! Can’t tell you how proud and chuffed I am!! I can’t sleep at night!!!
Still no name yet but mum and baby girl got home today and are trying to settle in.

Sheila - so glad you weren’t on too long and good to see you back on here again, missed you.

Helen - Well done you!! just think of how far you’ve come and how quick the year pasted.

Annie - your wee cat will get there

Carol - You’ll love having the pup, just remember don’t treat it like a baby or it will be spoiled too much, Mel’s dog Loulou seems to be getting on great with baby xxx

I got my new wig today, it’s exact same colour as my hair at moment and sits exactly same at the back. It’s a good wig will just never get it the way I want it, it just would never sit right.

I’m off now to get wee hot chocolate then bed to see if I can sleep.

Fee I think we were posting at the same time there LOL

Nite nite all
Lots love and hugs
Sharon xxxx

Hi girls,
Thank you all so much for making me feel so welcome. I can’t wait to get to know you all. Hope you don’t mind that I am almost 10 years after diagnosis, treatments I got back then might be different to ones you received more recently so maybe can’t comment but can definetely relate to your feelings and fears!!

Hi Fiona

I can’t believe that we were diagnosed on the same day - I’m a year today to the day but tomorrow to the date. Although it’s the 24th (Kian & Maggie’s bday) that it was confirmed for definate. I think we’ve done brilliant don’t you? Sorry to hear your boobs really sore - you’re probably doing too much - take it easy.

Sharon - congrats on becoming an auntie - you must be so thrilled. Does your sister live nearby. It will be so good to have them around.
Kim and Sarah - welcome to this little group. I live in EK, but stayed in Paisley after getting married. I am the oldest but young at heart. I was diagnosed 12 years ago, then had secondary 5 years ago. Been on and off chemo to reduce tumour.
Fiona - have a good time with your family. Hope you get some nice days out.
Annie - hows the cat.
Helen - 1 year down the line and that’s you back at work. Well done. Hope you’re coping with work and family.
Maggie - are you OK
Don’t know what’s happening to me just now. Chemo monday, and took a bad reaction when they started Taxotere. Must have had about 40 taxo, so why now. It was really scary, but fortunately, one the nurses was chatting to me when it happened. Tried again after couple of hours, but dozed me up with steroids before and after. Nurse stayed with me, and was fine. That was 6th taxo, so they might stop and keep me on Xeloda. Seeing oncologist next week to discuss alternatives.

Love to you all
Sheila

Hi all

Sheila - your having a hellish time girl, taxoter is a bugger! I am finding the Taxol a breeze.

Helen and Fiona - Well done girls on your 1yr anniversary, you noth have come really far

Fiona - how’s the visitors??

Nite nite

Hi Ladies,

Thank you for replying to my message, wish I had known about this months ago. It really has cheered me up! Great to chat to people who know exactly what planet your on!!!

Kim, I don’t think it would matter how long ago you had it. I love hearing about people who are light years ahead, gives us all hope!

Just been on a bracing walk with the dogs and saw five deer grazing in a field, made me want to cry! Anybody else break down at the most ridiculous things? My worst so far has been watching Philip Schofield being accepted for laser eye surgery???

Fiona, you cut my hair last week in Sharron shop! My boob still hurts too and I’m just over the year mark from diagnosis. Before xmas it was terrible. Sharp shooting pains, especially if feeling a bit stressed (like icing the xmas cake!!). Just keep getting told that its the after affects of surgery and radiotherapy. Seems to have calmed down a bit now though.

Lastly, don’t want to speak to soon, but, I may have had a full nights sleep last night! I can’t remember getting up, maybe the evening primrose oil suggested by Dr Al Hasso is working after all! Will keep you all posted.

For all of you who are having treatment, I know I don’t know you but I really do feel an ache inside for you all and I’ll be thinking of you. Sarah XXXX

Hello and welcome to Kim and Sarah, lovely bunch of ladies in here you are in good company, I live down in Glengarnock so not to far away, have to add Im the ‘old lady’ of the group xx

Well girls, only two more zaps to go…one tomorrow and one on Monday. YEEHAW. So sick of the sight of the Beatson.

My side effects have not been to bad compared to chemo…the hot flushes are a pain in the butt…and although my boob is sore, it’s more like sunburn and the skin has been fine. Got a horrible chesty cough and it’s made it all a wee bit yuckie, tiredness is horrid…but I expected it so not doing too much. Looking forward to side effects easing off…and my hair…well it’s coming in quicker than I thought…it will be trailing in the gutter behind me soon ha ha !!

Hope everyone is in a good place tonight.
Annie How’s whisper…it’s so heartbreaking to have a sick animal, poor old Jack had the runs all over the house this morning…took me the best part of 4 hours to clean it up…he’s been sleeping all day, someone gave him a greasy treat down the park last night…it was down his throat before I could stop them…he has a precious wee tummy :frowning:

Congratulations Auntie Sharon…blimey that baby took it’s time…probably just staying inside and warm during the freezing weather.xx

How’s the puppy Carol…hope he’s settled in xx

Sheila, we all missed you at the lunch, hopefully get to meet you at the next one…hope you are feeling better. xx

Fiona…looking forward to Lunch on Wed…are the visitors behaving? more to the point…are you??? xxx

Helen, how are you tonight? hope you are well, looking forward to meeting you again xx

Well girls…Im off to make some tea and watch FiveUSA…(Im addicted)
Catch you all later xxxx

Hi Sarah,

Can’t believe it’s you!! I did wonder when I first read your post, but wasn’t sure if it was a coincidence…So glad you’ve came on here to chat to us all, the more the merrier!! Good to hear you had a good night’s sleep last night…I’m on the evening primrose oil too, to try and reduce my sweats and I’m pleased to say that I feel they might be working, not had nearly as many this week…He did say it would take a while to work and it’s worth sticking with it…I’ve been on them about 2 months so far…I think the Tamoxifen plays havoc with the emotions, I fill up way too easy now…can’t watch sad things, and happy things have the same effect!! God you can’t win!!

Sharon, How are you today honey? how did things go on pre chemo? Emma is a lovely name…Has Mel decided that’s the one? Hope chemo goes ok for you tomorrow…Re the wig, have you tried putting a wee clip at the front or even wearing it with a hat…I know what you mean about the front not sitting right…it is really hard to get it just right, especially when you wear it back off your face normally…I would love to see it on you as it looked such a nice wig.

Sheila, what a terrible time you’ve had with Tax!!! and after having had so many as well… you must have got a terrible fright…I hope all goes ok on Monday…

Kim, What treatment did you have? I have a friend that is 6 years down the line and she still had one of the same chemo’s that they use now…It’s so nice to hear about people further away from finishing treatment. And even more wonderful that you are able to volounteer to help people who are going through it now…

Well I’m enjoying my visitors…My Dad’s coming up tomorrow too and we’re all going out for dinner, so I’m looking forward to that…My diet is well out the window at the moment!! Just chilling out tonight with a glass of wine as quite tired from work today…

Hope everyone else is doing ok?

Big Hugs to you all

Fiona xxxx

Maggie,

Can’t believe we were posting at the same time!!! Oh yes I’m looking forward to Wednesday…The BIG 50!!! but it’s ok! you’re secret’s safe with me I won’t tell anyone…lol xxxxx

Hi Girls,

Fiona, hope you enjoy your dinner out, where are you going?
For my chemo I had 4 Epirubicin, which is really strong. It made me feel pretty crap but I found it bareable, then I had 4 CMF which is apparently milder but it knocked me for six. I think maybe it was a build up of the 2. I decided during my chemo that I would have my radiotherapy at the same time to try and get it all finished quicker (which in hindsight was not the smartest idea I’ve ever had!!) but 6 days after finishing them both, myself and my family did a 24 hour “relay for life”, so there is life after chemo!!

Sharon, did I read that you have a new baby niece, how fantastic. I have 2 grandchildren of 3 and a half and 16 weeks, its wonderful, I love them to bits!!

I see some of you talking about having dogs…unfortunately we lost our 9 year old boxer and 9 year old German Shepherd last year within 6 months of each other. My husband Roddy and I have recently become fosterers for German Shepherd Rescue and are getting our first “charge” this Saturday for almost 3 weeks. He is a 9 year old called Dexy. We are so excited!!

I’m so sorry I don’t really know anyone yet but bear with me. Can you give me a brief synopsis of yourselves if you have time and don’t mind?

Sorry I’m droning on!

Take care
Kim xxxxxx

i know i dont post so much on this thread now but i do always read it

kimmy i had epi-cmf as well and i too found the cmf much worse than the epi even though i was told its much milder… i am looking forward to meeting you at the YWF too.

sharon congratulations on your new wee niece and good luck with your chemo tomorrow hunny x

sarah and Fee i still have pain in my boob now almost 4 years from surgery and still have insane itching which drives me bonkers, the pain is like sharp stibbing pain and is tender to the touch… apparently its nerve damage that causes it… 25% of women still have pain a year after breast surgery and 5% continue to have pain after 5 years.

sheila sorry to hear of your troubles on chemo, hope your onc can get it sorted out for you.

maggie glad the rads havent been too bad for you… i had my last one a week ago and my boob is still bright pink and i am mega tired.

fiona have fun with your family.

love Lulu xxx

Hi Kim,

I am 39 and was diagnosed in Feb last year with a 13mm IDC ER+,PR+ and Her2+ with LVI…Had a WLE with clear margins and nodes…I took part in the sold trial and had 3 Taxotere with Herceptin and then 3 FEC followed by herceptin on it’s own, I was supposed to have herceptin till May this year but had to stop due to heart problems. I had 4 weeks of radiotherapy also.

Helen on here has had Epi/CMF same as you, so you see they still use the same chemo as when you had it…There are just so many more now and they are able to tailor chemo to your type of cancer…

Sorry to hear about your dogs, It’s awful when a pet dies…I always say they are just little people in fur jackets…I’m a cat fan by the way! wouldn’t be without them as they can be so calming in this awfully stressful world! Good luck with the new “charge” hope he settles in well… Carol from here just got a cookapoo last week… 8 weeks old called “ozzy” and gorgeous!

I’m off for dinner at the Waterside tomorrow…food is lovely and I’m taking Maggie there on Wed for her “Birthday” lunch…yep diet definitely out the window!!!

Hugs
Fiona xxx

Hi Fiona,

I’m 39 too. I was diagnosed in 2000 with Infiltrative Ductal Carcinoma (I take it that’s an IDC?), which was ER+. Had mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, also lymph clearance with 1 affected. I’m sorry, as I’m new on here, I don’t really understand abbreviations! :frowning:
I haven’t really spoken to anyone else with breast cancer in the last 10 years, apart from a few older ladies in a hospital support group I used to go to, and it was all a bit taboo!
Had 6 weeks of rads then Tamoxifen for 5 years. Had genetic testing done in June last year as I have a 21 year old daughter, as yet no results!

Are you going to the Waterside in Strathaven? If yes I’ve been there loads it’s lovely. Enjoy. Please tell Maggie Happy Birthday from me.

Speak soon
Kim xx

Hi Kim
Like Fiona I’m 39 and was diagnosed at the same time; on my son’s 4th bday ( I’ve got 3 kids; 2 boys 8yrs & nearly 5yrs & a wee girl 1 1/2 yrs – I was still breast feeding when I was diagnosed).

I had an 11mm IDC ER+ with a 3rd of a mm trace on my sentinel node. I had a lumpectomy, with EPI-CMF chemo and 6 wks of rads, which I finished on Nov 24th – Moved house on the same day!! I wore a cold cap so kept most of my hair – I was really lucky and had very few side effects with chemo apart from being tired, but my last chemo hit me really hard and finally zapped my ovaries. I had genetic tests done at the end of last year, BRCA 1 OK still waiting on BRCA2 I’m going to chase up if i don’t hear back in next couple of weeks. I stay near Stirling so gate crashed this forum just after I was diagnosed, everyone is lovely and have been a huge support.
Good luck with Dexy on Saturday.

Maggie – fab news that you’ve almost fininshed your rads, I was soooooo excited on my last day. I had a horrible deep chesty cough by the end of my rads which has only just gone. I read somewhere that it can be a side effect ??? how’s jack, I hope he’s feeling better and … you are not old!

Sharon – I love the name Emma, I wanted to call Seren that. How did you do with the surgeon today? Good luck with your chemo tomorrow, I’ll be thinking of you.

Sarah – Thanks for your tip about OEP – I’ll might just stock up on it for when I change my Tamoxifan.

Carol – Hows Ozzy?

Annie – Hope wee whisper is doing OK

Fiona – I decided to join you in a glass of wine – have a good time with your dad.

Sheila – What a time you are having at the moment. You’re so brave and are doing great. How’s Fiona and wee Jessica? I hope you’re taking it easy.

Well, I’m off work tomorrow, so taking my mum shopping in the morning and then I’ll be icing cakes on saturday for Kian’s party.

Hugs
