I know
but it’s always the way when she’s not around. Still, it’s Friday so a glass of red will help with the snoozing ![]()
northampton it is then, shall i sugguest a date and say miday at the train station? the town is about a 10 min walk from the train station or shall we meet in town?
Hi
Yes suggest a date. I think it may be easier to meet in town? Who would be arriving on the train?
R
how about 1st october, which is a thursday, but im not sure where in Northampton would be a good location?
Hmmmm let me think. Do you know the Derngate part of town? There are some nice pubs around there. If that’s not easily accessible how about The White Hart (Cotton End)it’s about a mile from the train station. I went in there for a speed dating event (don’t laugh!!!) once and seemed pleasant enough.
If anyone has any other suggestions don’t be afraid to add your ideas.
Stuart - think Vicki will be up for coming along?
R
Hi all,
the 1st October would be ok for me and don’t mind where we meet. I can call in at the White Hart on my way home and get an idea on prices etc.If anyone needed a lift from the station I could fit in 3 passengers.
It would be good if we can get this up and running as I know how important support groups are as I work with carersand they find that being able to share experiences with others in a similar situation is very beneficial.
Stuart, I hope your wife, Vicky is feeling a bit better and you are managing to get some sleep.
Claire x
Hi Claire,
Vicky is definitely better for her time away but 5th tax coming up this Friday, so I don’t think it’ll last beyond that as she’ll be asleep next week
I’m sleeping better now she’s home though so at least I can look after her more ![]()
Stuart
Stu - you’re such a softie! Send her for some complementary therapies to cheer her up and pamper her ![]()
I think the White Hart would be a good place to meet, and the 1st October will be between my first and second chemo sessions.
R
well it looks like we have a meet up on our hands, I would appreiciate a lift from the train station, how will we recognise each other, i would sugguest a pink ribbon, but being october every body will be wearing the damn things!
Anna
PS this might be the most fun i have had in months
I am what I am, which I suppose is an old romantic.
Looks as though everything is coming together, what sort of time though?
Hi Remmiechick
I am about 45 mins drive from MK, so a bit further to Daventry, but if there is a meet in MK, would love to join you. 37 and diagnosed in May 2009.
xx
hey everyone,
Glad things are coming together - I had my first FEC last week and it didn’t go too well. I ended up back in hospital on a drip and anti sickness meds. I got home Sunday night and boy was it nice to be back in my own room and bed.
Because i’ve been unwell i’m going to have to give the meeting a miss (soo sorry :-() I am going back to my parents house in Wales to recouperate in between sessions. I’ll be back on the 2nd so hopefully we can all organise something again soon?
It’s Silverstone BSB this weekend and I can’t go as my nurses told me ‘no crowds!’ so bit disappointed about that but hey ho. I can watch it from the comfort of my sofa ![]()
R, don’t let them tell you that you can’t go to Silverstone ![]()
Vicky was bad after tax in June and they kept her in on the Saturday for the night, didn’t stop me wheeling her round Silverstone for the GP the next day though ![]()
As Vicky’s treatment was postponed for a week due to needing a transfusion she’ll probably be asleep for most of next week while she recovers. (Not trying to make a decision for her but just speaking from past experience).
Hi all,
I am assuming that the meeting up tomorrow is not now going ahead due to unforseen circumstances.
Are we going to try again in the near future?
Sorry to read that some of you are not too well at present, hope you are feeling a bit better now.
With regards to a bit of pampering, I presume you are aware of the service offered by NGH - massage/reflexology/indian head massage and aromatheraphy. It was wonderful and was free!!! Ask in the oncology dept for details.
Must dash now but hopefully see you all soon.
Take care
Claire ( alias rosie10)
Hi Claire,
Funny you should mention that but Vicky went for a back massage at the Cynthia Spencer Hospice on Monday and is now booke din for a full body massage next Monday. I don’t think she can recommend it highly enough ![]()
As far as I know tomorrow is postponed but hopefully it will all gel together in a week or so depending on everyone’s treatment schedules.
Stuart
Hi all,
I’m back in the area and already a bit homesick. My next session is on Thursday. Had my flu jab today in readiness for the worst time of the year for illnesses!
Did anyone get to meet up Thursday?
R x
Hope everyone is well,
I have chemo Thursday. I thought you guys may like to look at this website:
I have already contacted them about perhaps having a workshop in our neck of the woods.
R x
Here is the response from LGFB:
"Dear Reem
Thank you for your email. I am afraid the closest workshops to you right now are held at Leicester Royal Infirmary, Luton & Dunstable Hospital or Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge, all I know are a bit of a distance to you. We are planning to open in Coventry next year, but as we are a very small charity and can only grown in line with how the cosmetics industry can support us, we can only open in a limited number of new locations each year. I am afraid it’s very much a case of a hospital coming to us to show they want and can support our service rather than us going to them “selling” what we do to them and asking them to offer our service to their ladies. There is quite a lot that goes into launching and running the LGFB service, so someone at one of your local hospital would need to be prepared to take this on. Please do feel free to pass on my name and contact details to anyone you know who might want to talk to us about launching in the future.
In the meantime, if you can travel to any of the above venues, you are very welcome to attend one of our workshops. Booking details are:
Leicester Royal Infirmary Tel: 0116 258 5760 ~ runs monthly on a Wednesday from 3 to 5 pm.
Luton & Dunstable Hospital, Luton Tel: 01582 718189 ~ runs monthly on a Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm.
Addenbrooke’s, Cambridge Tel: 01223 216551 ~ runs twice a month on a Thursday from 2 to pm.
The hospitals handle their own booking systems so I am afraid I don’t know how far in advance they are booked, but hopefully they will be able to get you into a session really soon. If you don’t happen to have transport, then it’s still worth calling to see if anyone else from your area may be going to a session in which case you might be able to travel with them. Just a suggestion.
In summary, our workshops are usually attended by up to 12 ladies who are all undergoing treatment for different types of cancer. Each lady is presented with a gift bag of full size skincare and cosmetic products which are hers to use throughout the session and take with her when she leaves. We send three volunteer beauty professionals to each session who guide the ladies through a 12-step skincare and make-up routine using the products in the gift bag, specifically helping with tips to combat the visible side effects of treatment such as loss of eyebrows and eyelashes. It’s a very uplifting couple of hours and completely free of charge.
You might also be interested in our new self-help DVD & booklet, the LGFB Confidence Kit. This covers not only tips on skincare and make-up, but also has a section on wig selection & cutting; head scarves and nail care. This can be ordered via our website or I can send you an application form in the post. If you are interested and need the form by post, please let me have an address.
I hope this information is of help."
Maybe we can ask at NGH about this service as I think it sounds very good.
