Julie- sounds like you are doing everything possible to beat the sickness so really hope it works. good luck for today.

Morning all

Hope your all feeling a lot better today The sun is shinnning here but its going to rain at the weekend how c**p is that.

I ahve a problem with work at the mo. I have asked HR dept to ask if under the circumstances I could carry over the 13 days anual leave that I have remaining we can carry 5 over. The reply I have is to take my remaining annual leave during July/August. I have a medical cert that that takes me to mid sept. Can they do this I am trying to contact citizen advice. As you can maybe tell Im a little fired up about this.

Sorry moan over Marion x

Hi All

Good luck for today Julie thinking of you cos its gonna be me this time next week…

Hope your both ok Mumszy and Debs and anyone else that might be feeling c**p and that your feeling better soon.

Im off to OH’s tonight

Hope everone has a lovely weekend

Take care Sally xx

hello All, thanks for your love it really helps.
Had a totally awful night, vomiting every cupla hours and other end too!! Despite ondansetron and cyclizine Im still puking. Have just had some ginger tea, a small bowl of cereal and ginger biscuits and they have stayed put for an hour so far… Onc said to eat after a large vomit as it has more chance of some of it going into my body!! I have a problem as Im allergic to most emetics (they make me ‘trip’ but most unpleasantly) so the hosp are very wary of what they give me. Im going to have a shower and then crawl back to bed feel really c**p at the moment, Im moving about 21st so Ive got loads to do , cant afford to be ill!!
I dont like my head very much but my long wig that my man bought me looks lovely and he told me I still look beautiful, with or without hair- Bless him!
xx

awwww mumzsy sorry your feeling so crap (((hugs))) hope your anti-emetics start working soon.

marion i dont think we can carry over our A/L either… not even 1 day after the next holiday year as far as i know… think its maybe down to local policy… but def look into it… if it was mat leave you would be able to carry it over so you would think if your signed off on sick leave you should also get to carry it over.

sally have fun tonight, my OH is away with my daughter to T in the park and seeing as i cant go iv put my tent up in the living room and got my wellies on for T in the lounge :o)

my head is dead nippy so popping pills to help and chopped my hair shorter so it doesnt pull so much… but its getting the clipper treatment on sunday.

love Lxx

Sounds gtreat Lulu have fun!!

Mumszy hope you are feeling better! sorry to hear you are having a rough time!
Can’t get my OH to shave my head he is worried about cutting me! bless!
So off to school in a hat today! no comments from antone they ahve all been so great! Yes i did go in today and no it wasn’t a good idea! But does take my mind off the sicky feeling!

Have a gd weekend one and all, love debs xxxx

debs, can’t believe your still going into work, your so brave. We have swine flu in our school so i’m glad iv’e not been in. It’s in the class where i work too.

Mumszy sorry to hear your having a rough time of it, if its any concelation i was ‘back to normal’ around day 7 so lets hope yours doesn’t drag on (i was lucky and only felt sick and had indegestion)

Julie hope you have a good night after your 3rd dose today. Lets hope they got your anti sick tabs right this time.

Everyone have a relaxing weekend, luv Pauline xxx

Hello all

Its great to read all the posts. Am on day 4 of my second FEC and feeling a little brighter, so pleased to wake up after a good night sleep and not have to pop too many pills, steriods and anti sickness only on days 1 to 3. Still taking paracetomel for the aches of the booster injections. I think my husband is glad of a good night sleep as well.

Definately having more indigestion on this second round of chemo - anyone any good suggestions for the feeling in the back of the throat?

Marion, as far as getting annual leave carried over, at the moment it depends on your employment contract and how understanding your employer is. There is an employment directive currently going through court on this point but that isn’t going to help you at the mo. I’m lucky, I work for a small firm and my boss is very understanding and appreciative of the work that I can do. It’s difficult to plan holiday’s around chemo, me and my husband are planning having a few weekends away when it’s my good weekend before the next lot of chemo.

Love all the pics of wigs and bald heads. We went to choose a wig and I have seen one I like but am not sure whether I want to buy it or whether I am just happy wearing hats and scarves. Started wearing hats to work now as hair is very thin - just can’t wait for it all to fall out now as it’s such a pain having to clear all the loose hairs.

Love

hello all, Hope you have great T in the lounge, Lulu what a good idea!
Im feeling brighter today and have only been sick twice today so looks like its going off, the nasty headache is not so bad either1
Arcadia, where do you live? You are entitled to a free NHS wig and they are really nice (as you can see on the fotos!!)
I dont get given any antibiotics or booster injections although my neutrophils were 0nly 1.3 this time!
Going for quick visit to grandchildren that should cheer me up a bit!!#
maybe speak later

Hi mumszy
I live in Littlehampton down on the sunny south coast, although it’s not so sunny this weekend, the weather seems to be doing what I’m feeling. Hope you enjoyed your afternoon out.
Not good you been feeling so sick, my onc. changed my anti sickness pills when I told him that i was sick only the once. Much to my surprise as I thought once was brilliant. Have been lucky this time, no sickness just a strange feeling at the back of my throat which must be linked to indigestion.
As I have had my operation etc. done privately getting a wig on the NHS is gonna be a job, must go talk to my gp about it tho.

Julie C xx

Hi all
Good to hear you are all in good spirits despite some of the minor set backs.
Mumsys…Glad to hear your feeling better. My Oncol dept like yours would still give chemo if neutrophils were at 1.3 although they said ideally would like them to be nearer 1.5. Like Lulu mine were quite low and therefore the booster jab. District nurse called today and supervised as i injected the first one into tummy and now feel confident enough to do the rest.

Julie interesting to hear you had the feeling in back of the throat as i am also 5dys after 2nd chemo and rang yesterday to ask Oncol dept advise on this and they asked me to take temp there and then and had i any other symptoms. I actually felt ok but they asked me come up within the hour to collect prescript for antibiotics…so obviously being cautious as she said there is so much swine flu going around + dont want infection after being neutropenic on first one. She said if i got any flu like symptoms to contact them a.s.a.p to get Tamiflu inject…ie: tirdness, aches and pains etc. I just looked at her and smiled and then she said ’ well you probably wouldnt feel any different! Julie how would you describe the throat thing, did you find it uncomfortable to swallow??

Maid Marion
Re the carring over of leave into the next annual leave year…I was working in Government job and the general concensus is we were allowed to carry over maximum of 5dys but we could apply under ‘special circumstances’ for this to be increased if put to H.O.D in writing and ultimately, as one of the girls has already said, if you have an understanding boss(and lets be honest you have a bloody good reason)it was usually granted. Hope this helps.

Have a good weekend and Big Hugs x

Mumszy, I had to pay £59.20 for my NHS wig!! don’t get them free everywhere! going out in it for first time tonight already feels itchy!!
love debs xxxx

Hi All

Lulu love the tent thing, just need a BBQ and a glass of wine and your there.

Glad your feeling better mumszy.Im sure the grandchildren will cheer you up a bit.

Debs, someone said to me to try putting talc on your head before the wig…dont get them mixed up and the other way around or you’l look
like youve got a bad case of dandruff ha ha.

Julie, i found the indigestion was alot worse on my 2nd FEC, went to Dr’s and he gave some Omeprazole, you take 1 a day its it really helps.

Wore my new wig to sons sports day yesterday and had so many people coming up and saying how nice it looked i felt dead chuffed. Was a bit scared about wearing it as it was pretty windy, but stayed in place reagardless.

Hope everyone’s having a lovely weekend,
were off to the beach tomorrow weather permitting,

love to all
Sally xx

Rosiefff - the feeling in the back of my throat is difficult to describe. It isn’t uncomfortable to swallow, just a feeling of something there. Been drinking plenty of cups of tea as it helps to drink. Thought to start with, it was associated with the sicky feeling but then thought it could be acid from indigestion. Have been taking some anti acid tablets but they don’t seem to help. Guess it’s just something else to mention to the onc. next time I see him. Been taking my temp regularly and its fine.
Julie C xx

sally i had 20mg omprazole during 1st fec due to indegestion. they didn’t seem to help on 2nd so i went to docs and they are letting me take 2 a day now which i split morning and night because i found the indegestion was worse at night. Just thought i would mention that its worth just checking with gp if they start to not work again as mine did. my anti sick didn’t work as well either so i have to mention that befor session 3

debs can’t believe you had to pay for your wig, thats scandless. i thought it was the same rule all over the UK, obviously not

luv pauline xxx

Hi All

Pauline thanks for that will mention it to ONC on tuesday when i see her…mine are 20mg tablets 1 daily so wonder if thats the max i can take???

Well ladies the ultimate test with wig was done today a windy walk on the beach… and it stayed firm in place with no help from tape etc… YIPEEEEEEE…(had scarf in pocket just in case)

Hope everyones had a lovely weekend

Love to all Sally xxxxxxxx

in england i thought cancer patient got free prescriptions so surely you shouldnt need to pay for your wig if you get the exemption certificate from your gp.

in scotland we get a free nhs wig every 6 months.

julie i also had a burny feeling that something was at back of my throat and top of my chest… only lasted for a few days though… but was bloody annoying and uncomfy at the time… tried gaviscon and remegel but neither really did much.

sally 20mg of omeprazole a day is the recommended max amount… although in some cases can be increased to 40mg… do you take any anti-inflamatory meds like brufen or aspirin as they can make gastric probs worse.

glad you kept your hair on sally :o)

love lulu xx

Hi Lulu
thanks for the imfo. no i dont take any ibrufen etc and i only find that i have to take the omeprozole for the 1st few days after chemo after that ive been fine, touch wood.
think wee all gonna end up ratteling after all of this with the pills were all popping LOL

hope everyones ok
Sally xx

hi all
good news is that i wasent sick fiday after chemo, was it the crysalised ginger in my porridge and i also took some pieces with me, didnt have nhs sandwhiches just a banana,or has my body got used to it ,dont no but am really pleased, have got new anti-sick drug but didnt start them until nxt day have only had mild nausea at min and indigestion,
about the back of the throat thing, i was eating something a couple of times and panicked i couldnt swallow, have put it down to the fact that you are not producing so much saliva in the mouth so keep it moised with sips of water especially when eating, or chew chewing gum after eating will also help to clean your mouth ,
i had to pay £60 for wig on percription, why is the whole contury not the same? i live in leicester
mumszy sorry you have been so sick this time ,the nite before my treatment i took the anti-sick drugs and drank fizzy water and still am drinking the water, dont no which it was that worked and maybe wont, as next drug is taxs, so might have different effects but will still try,
hi arcadia think i will have to be known as julie m,as if the rest of you are like me, chemo brain makes it hard to remember who said what when you get to the end of the thread lol,
pauline still not bad, think the ginger is a big factor along with the fizzy water ,
o forgot, therapetic band came saturday and do`s feel really comfortable
