April 2024 chemo starters

I took the antihistamines from the first morning - Dr didn’t advise, but thought I’d got nothing to lose! And v common in US

Hi ladies

I’m part of the February chemo monthly thread and am also on filgastrim injections for 7 days after each round of chemo.

I always take my injection at the same time every evening (around 6:30pm) and I take it out of the fridge for an hour before I inject so that it is at room temperature. At the time I take my injection out of the fridge I also take a loratadine antihistamine tablet so again an hour before injection.

After I take my injection I have a bath with Epsom salts and then try and get a decent nights sleep. This routine was built on advice I got from other ladies from earlier chemo threads.

I do still get some joint pain but it has so far been manageable with paracetamol and it hasn’t started until I take my 6th/7th injection.

Just thought I’d share what works for me so might be worth trying.

Best of luck to you all on your journey through chemo.

Hello ladies, looking for a bit of reassurance. Second round of ec and my face has gone like a red tomato! I look like I would when I’ve ran five miles!! Is this normal? No other side effects, so not complaining I just feel it’s really visual now

Hi @mlp74 its tricky isn’t when you never know which drug is causing what! When I had my first round of TC my face was really flushed and I’m normally quite pale. The nurses told me the flushing was from the steroids as I’d had to take them the day before the chemo and for three days. As soon as the steroids had finished I was back to pale! However if you are still worried I’d call your BCN sending hugs H x

Hi @mlp74 me too bright red face day 2 but it did clear. I read some advice in a book by Dr Liz O Reordan to drink plenty of water throughout treatment and the days following, which I feel may have helped clear my system.
I will let you know if it’s back next week when I have my second dose.

Thanks @hc1973 and @bettysmum that makes me feel loads better. I only drank two kitties yesterday (drank 3 last round) so will up that today. Last day of steroids for me tomorrow so hopefully I look a bit more normal for the weekend

Hi @pollyanna1 i hope you are doing ok after yesterday and your chemo goes ok today. Sending love x

Hi @mlp74, chemo was cancelled today not long home. Bloods were all totally fine but because of the abscess I had, 16 days of antibiotics just finished they said they wanted to give it another week without antibiotics to see if everything goes ok. A bit disappointed but glad they’re taking no chances. Hope all is well with you and all the other ladies on here xxx

Those injections were the worst part of chemotherapy. An hour exactly after giving myself the injection I felt like I had lost a fight with a steamroller :disappointed:.

Well my wig appointment was a bit of a disappointment :worried:
The lady was very nice, but plonked a few wigs on me, agreed the colours weren’t exactly the same as my greying hair and then suggested that I think about what I want to do. She suggested that I wait until I’ve lost more hair as she wondered whether I was certain about a wig at all…. She is probably right, but I was just a bit bemused about what had happened!
She did say that I should wear caps all the time now, as my hair was shredding so much. And she did let me try a Bamboo cap which was considerably cooler than the ones I ordered earlier in the week. Having had a quick look, I think it was this brand https://www.amazon.co.uk/Christine-Headwear-Bamboo-TurbanHeadwear-
At least I have another appointment scheduled (more locally) next week :smirk:

@altoan Oh sorry the wig appointment didn’t live up to expectations. It must be hard to see a different hairstyle back in the mirror, but maybe caps will feel more comfortable for you. When she suggested to wear a cap all the time now shedding, what’s the reason for that - is it for sun protection or to protect the remaining hair?

@isthisreal to protect the hair, also to gather it up rather than it falling all over the place I guess?

@altoan, sorry your appointment didn’t go as well as planned. This happened to me at first when trying on wigs, I eventually got her to buzz it all off and wig suited better. My hair has all fallen out now except for one small patch. I’m wearing turbans more than the wig as find it much more comfortable. Turban are great for catching hair( not as messy). Hopefully you get something your comfortable with xxxx

Hi @mlp74, this happened to me after my 1st round, I looked like the ribena man. It did eventually calm the next evening. Drink loads of water. I was drinking 2 litres everyday xxxx

I hope you are feeling ok, I’m back in tomorrow for my 2nd round so will be interesting to see if I get the bright red face again, I will let you know! I think hydration is definitely important, I’m rubbish at drinking anything other than coffee! Will try harder tomorrow! H x

Hi @pollyanna1 sorry to read that you have had a delay. Hope that you feel ok and can do something nice before the next round
Thanks for saying about red face. It horrible others have the same but makes it feel a bit normal ( if that makes sense).
