April 2024 chemo starters

Nice to catch up with your messages!
@pollyanna1 i hope that they can sort you tomorrow, sorry you’ve got something else on your mind :face_with_diagonal_mouth: I’m jealous that the Nurse came to do your injections- is that for all of them? Like @steph1969 im doing my own from tomorrow - not looking forward to that but didn’t think it fair to ask hubby to do anything else at the moment

@steph1969 * In my case, Epirubicin causes the red pee, a bit like when you eat beetroot  so just needs flushing out of the system!

Hello ladies, I wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I was diagnosed with IDC , had a diep recon 8 weeks ago and start chemo (EC) on Monday. I was supposed to start in March but there was an issue with my wounds not healing well enough. I’ve been pretty ok up until now but chemo is terrifying me. Any tips on how to handle it?

Hi - just thought I’d hop on to say hello and hopefully reassure you a bit! I started chemo (EC) last Tuesday and it was fine. The process itself was quite quick (I have a picc line which definitely helps) and so far I feel OK. I’m fully expecting to crash over the weekend when I come off the steroids, but honestly the chemo itself was nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Good luck - and let us know how you get on x

Sorry to hear about a possible abscess @pollyanna1 - I hope you’re OK?

Hi, my diagnosis is DCIS so I’ve had a mastectomy and lymph clearance in February and started EC chemotherapy on Wednesday. Like @ivy-cat so far I feel ok, despite being very scared since the appointment where they told me what was coming next. I’m a little under the weather but managed a nice walk both yesterday and today, bit of indigestion, dry mouth and sleep disturbance (but that’s not so abnormal for me!) I started my injections today and am wondering how that will impact me over the weekend but so far so good.
Take care and I hope your journey will be smooth

Hi ladies, I ended up in Hosiptal last night as temperature dropped to 35.3
Seen surgeon and radiologist this morning some fluid and air gathered behind wle, report came through yesterday and chemotherapy started on Wednesday. I’m now on 2 antibiotics as they’re reluctant to do aspiration as don’t want to spread infection and it seems to have reduced from scan few weeks ago. Please don’t let this worry anyone as I’ve just been unfortunate it’s just a complication of additional surgery as I had a busted blood vessel 10 days after WLE. Only thing now I don’t know if it’s antibiotics or chemo making me feel nauseous. Anyway, I’m glad to hear all you ladies are keeping well. @altoan I only get one injection after chemo each cycle, I take it must be to do with the combination of chemo we’re on. @mlp74, my issues are surgery related and not chemo, bit of a dry mouth and throat. Keep drinking lots of water, I’ve been enjoying some ice cream also.xxx

Thank you, it’s good to know someone has experienced this. I don’t mean this in a bad way xxx

Totally get that! It really helps me when someone has a similar experience which is weird to say. Don’t mean it in a bad way! Just feel less alone in it. Hope that makes sense!!

I think it reassures us that lots of people have similar experiences xxx

I think we all feel in shock about having to deal with such a difficult diagnosis - especially having to have chemo! My tumour is growing fast and I was told I had to have chemo asap to try and shrink it. Just 6 weeks ago cancer wasn’t even on my radar and now everything is put on hold whilst I deal with it. We can support each other through this @isthisreal xx

I start on the 4th so I’ll let you know @isthisreal PICC line fitted on same morning. As you say just like a steam roller hitting you, 5th of Feb was recalled from routine mammogram and world turned upside down. Going to try and cold cap too. Methinks Thursday will be a long day! Are you allowed visitors? I’m not :face_holding_back_tears:

Good luck to @isthisreal @gromit12 - I’ve been struggling with indigestion all day which has been awful - not sure what’s cause it but I’ve felt lousy! Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day x

Indigestion is one of my issues too, are you still taking any of the anti-nausea meds? I wondered if they would help reduce it…but am coming to an end of those today, unless I continue taking Domperidone for a few more days I guess?
I’ve bought some Gaviscon to see if that helps a bit, maybe makes me feel like I’m doing something!

My anti nausea meds have finished but I have taken a domperidone tablet this morning before I eat anything to see if it helps. Honestly, I felt awful yesterday and even went to bed with indigestion which was really uncomfortable. Going to see if a walk after breakfast helps too. I might have to take some gaviscon too if it doesn’t get any better today @altoan

@ivy-cat sounds good, my understanding is that we can take additional Domperidone if we still need it. I’m going to for another day at least :crossed_fingers:t2:Hope you feel better later
