April 2024 chemo starters

Good morning its very reassuring to know our symptoms are the same, my indigestion is intense and i had to take gaviscon in the end. Also, such aches after the injection…i did not expect that. Maybe a little walk to get things moving too. Its hard to keep on track with all the meds, i totally forgot to put the injections in the fridge and had a stressful time trying to get hold of someone who could help. I was advised that it was fine to take. Hope you all have a good easter x

Just a thought, ladies, from a December starter. Are you sure your indigestion isn’t constipation?
The anti sickness meds often cause constipation.
I hope you feel more comfortable soon x

Well it’s eased off a bit today - took an anti sickness tablet before breakfast and then went for a walk - so fingers crossed! The constipation hasn’t kicked in fully yet @isitreallyme - so I’m sure that will add to my woes before too long. Hope everyone has a decent day today and gets to enjoy some chocolate x

@isitreallyme Thank you for your message….it took me until Day 4 to realise that! I had some Laxotol prescribed after my mastectomy and took 2 sachets yesterday as well as focussing a bit more on my diet - overnight oats with prunes etc today, etc. trying ginger tea now, I’m hoping that the combination will make a difference :crossed_fingers:t2:

Hi ladies, happy Easter to you all. Sorry to hear so many also suffering with indigestion.I’m taking an omeprazole first thing every morning and is helping with the indegestion. I also sleep on a wedge pillow which I find helps with heartburn. I’m feeling nauseous but still able to eat small meals. Soup, fruit chopped up with yogurt for gut over it. Is anyone finding they are dizzy with headaches quite often, my brain feels scrambled when I’m tired and trying to get words out, maybe it’s age (52 lol.
Hospital gave me Metoclopramide to take for sickness if needed. All my other anti nausea meds finished last night.
I’ve been using cortisodyl mouthwash and calgel which I find is good as inside my mouth and gums have become tender. There is an Easter Egg looking at me here and I’m very tempted but it’ll probably give me heartburn. I’ll let you know how it goes. Hope you all have a lovely day whatever way your spending it :hatching_chick::hatching_chick::hatching_chick:

Just wondered how everyone is doing? I hit a real low over the weekend but feel as though I’m starting to pick up a bit now. Went to see a lady about a wig - as a back up in case the cold capping doesn’t work. It looked way better than my actual hair!

Hi @ivy-cat and all you other ladies, hope you had a nice Easter. I was the same at the weekend. Starting to feel I’m picking up today. Still getting light headed on and off but not as nauseous. Glad to hear your getting you wig sorted, mines is vey like my natural hair but as if it was just freshly done lol. I got a few headscarves and turbans arrive today from AnnaBandana which I love

Hello all, nice to hear your updates
For me this has been my worst day so far. I’m very uncomfortable with indigestion, feeling woozy and a little unsteady (maybe from the injections?) and generally down in the dumps. Spoke to the hospital team today and will start omeprazol tomorrow morning, as well as keeping on with trying ginger/peppermint, Gaviscon regularly and avoiding dairy :unamused:
Can’t settle to much and starting to worry about Chemo #2 which is only a week away…
This is the first day since my diagnosis when I just feel rubbish, and I shouldn’t as I’m very well supported and genuinely in a far better place than many people to deal with this.
Just waiting until it’s a reasonable time to go to bed and will hope for better tomorrow :crossed_fingers:t2:

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling @altoan, I think Sunday was my worst day, I felt awful and wondered how on earth I’m going to get through this. This is the first day I’ve not had indigestion - so I can sympathise with how terrible you feel. I’m still feeling really tired and will probably head off to bed before too long too x

Hi @altoan im finding omeprezole is helping with heartburn and indigestion. Today was the first day I started to feel better but lo and behold dizzy spells and woozy sore head back this last few hours. I’m finding it impossible to even watch tv, hard to concentrate. Think I’ll go to bed and pray tomorrow is better xx

I wonder if it’s the injections causing the wooziness @pollyanna1 - I found I tend to feel more dizzy in the evening after my jab?

Yes my mood was definitely worse because it was Easter and I felt resentful that I couldn’t enjoy it fully like everyone else @isthisreal Tbh, apart from feeling low and a bit rubbish it hasn’t been as bad as I was expecting and hopefully your first chemo session will be fine x

Thank you @isthisreal - it’s a good point you make about life going in around us. My friend has invited me over for lunch tomorrow because she’s off work this week and that just seems so far away from my normal right now.
Have a good night everyone x

@isthisreal are you starting Friday? I’m Thursday -just want to get on with it now. Deciding what to pack for the day- any essentials ladies? Not allowed anyone with me so need to take it all!!! Take care everyone xx

@isthisreal I’m in Reading but having chemo at satellite unit just outside. There was a waiting list in Reading! I was happy to go anywhere! Hadn’t thought of lip balm  Where are you? Can someone come with you? I’m going to try cold capping too.

I’ve got an appointment next Wednesday for a wig as well, on the off chance cold capping doesnt work (plus I’ve got thin hair anyway) :woman_shrugging::woman_shrugging: better to have it & not need it. Ive got a new patient meeting next week, then my 1st Chemo on 18th - actually feeling ok about it all apart from I’ve found out I may need to inject myself for a few days :face_with_peeking_eye::face_with_peeking_eye: any advise on this ladies ?

@ivegotthis01 I understand that the injections are for 7 days after each chemo- makes our bone marrow increase production of white blood cells to reduce chance of infection. You or a partner can give them. I’m a nurse but the thought of injecting myself :scream: @isthisreal just thought about conditioner- did your nurse tell you paraben and sulphate free, and colour and scent free? They said they’d use tubigrip for forehead - apparently some ladies use pantiliners on their foreheads - but there is a limit to what I’ll do!!! Xx

@ivegotthis01 the wig person is off sick until end of April and I start on Thursday so made the decision no wig, and if cold capping doesn’t work, then I’ve got some headscarves and folk are used to seeing me in baseball caps as I run. But :crossed_fingers:cold capping works
