April 2025 chemo starters

Do you start next week too? My first one will be next Friday! Ec definitely wasn’t my fan neither was the picc line it’s been a ride that I would struggle to repeat that’s for sure! That sounds encouraging about weekly being a little easier :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:

I start paclitaxel in 3 weeks as I’ve just had my 3rd and final EC! It’ll be strange going weekly but will also mean I’m ticking them off faster!

Tbh I feel pretty crap again!

That’s so pants, it really is a hard old drug, whilst I have a bit of a niggle about only managing one I’m quite relieved I will hopefully not have to feel like that again

It’s horrible, I’ve been taken into hospital on last 2 cycles as I’ve been so weak. I hope I don’t need to go in again on this cycle. Don’t worry about getting thru 1, there’s always another drug like pac that you can try. I can’t believe I’ve got thru 3, I def couldn’t do 4 for sure!

I was also really floored by my first EC and it was day 12 before I felt almost normal. I was very weak and wobbly for most of that time but luckily wasn’t actually sick. I had a horrible reaction to the anti sickness med Akynzeo they gave me before the EC went in - intense vertigo like being on a rolling sea. They’re going to try something else for my next one on Tuesday. Dreading the whole thing and being bed bound for another 10 days. Hoping my copious notes and tips to myself help me to cope better. My oncologist says it can day an extra day each cycle to pick up. I have four ECs then paclitaxel and immunotherapy.

Re mouth ulcers. I can’t remember who was asking… I used to get them as a child and my dad had a great remedy: dissolve one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in an eggcup of warm water, soak a small piece of cottonwool in it, squeeze out the excess and place cotton wool on mouth ulcer and leave there 5-10mins. It really worked though that might have been the dad effect! I haven’t needed to try it since but am planning to if/when I get mouth ulcers. I have also been prescribed a mouth wash.

I held off for as long as possible, but in the end I was malting more than a German shepherd dog, so it had to be done! :joy:

Horrible isn’t it. There seems to be lots of different anti sickness meds so try not to worry as they’ll give you an alternative. I’ve found it’s around until day 10 until I feel normal again. Theres no way I could drive before day 10. It’s mad how it affects everyone so differently. I’m glad I’ve done my last EC but feel I’ve got another 6 lousy days before I get stronger again. We can do this, it just a brutal thing to go through x

How’ve you been? Have you had your next EC? I was nauseous till about day 7, and sats 5/6 really were t great at all. Since then I’m much tireder than usual, learning I can do something in the morning but then am whacked in the afternoon, day 10 now.

Hey lovely, thanks for thinking of me. I’m not too bad. It’s day 5 for me so that’s when I start my lowest point, extreme fatigue and weakness and just ick feeling. But getting through. My oncologist changed my 5 day injections to a one day and I think it’s made a massive difference. No severe migraines and bone pain this time around :raised_hands:t4:
How has your 1st session gone so far? Xxx

Good to hear you’re ok and hopefully the next few days will be ok. I asked my oncologist for thv1 day injection and he said no it’s too expensive! Great! I think the daily injection for 7 days on top of the chemo is flooring me. At least when I go over to weekly pac I won’t need them. I’ve got 4 injections to go and I’m crossing them off!!

Hi! I think it’s more manageable once you know what to expect. It sounds like you’ve got it covered. :+1: I feel I’ve been lucky. I felt rough for a couple of days around Day 8/9, coincidentally once the steroids finished, that’s when I got bone pain too. I’ve been told it’s ok to taper the steroids for a couple more days, so I’ll do that next time.
Skin issues, mouth sores and cold sores have been problematic but not insurmountable.
My next EC is on Thursday, so 4 days later than expected.
Did you ask for Dermol on prescription? I have a GP phone call tomorrow, re bisphosphonates, thought I’d try my luck and ask.

I had my last (7th) injection today and I am so happy to have a few days off.

I have developed what I’ll call chemo anxiety. I was quite chill about it before the first session but now have a gut wrenching feeling about the next one. the cannula, the side effects, everything. I’m just trying to distract myself as much as possible. Best friend is coming to visit me tomorrow. Ooh, and I tried on some wigs today! 46 years of being a redhead, might be going blonde….

Yes it was day 10 before I felt I could drive. Interestingly my physio tested my strength and reflexes and thought they were normal so maybe it was just feeling rather than being weak. Not sure that helps though! Mostly it was struggling to stay upright (sitting down) for more than an hour or so and having to go back to bed… I wasn’t expecting it to be debilitating for quite so long and then having a frantic attempt to try and rehabilitate from 10 days in bed before next chemo. :person_shrugging:t3:

We’re so similar, sounds just like me. I’ve had my dose reduced twice so im glad to see the back of EC. Going to have an easy few days and then I’ll get stronger again before I start weekly pax. Hope you have a nice restful day x
