I’ve had a really really sore nipple for about 2 weeks. When I squeeze it it’s really painful. I noticed the Other day that the whole nipple and areola has sunk slightly not like really bad but a tiny bit. If I push on the areola it hurts again. Am I panicking for no reason? I heard breast cancer is painless. I have an appointment with the breast department in our hospital but I am majorly panicking. I’m only 27 and don’t want to die young!

Try not to panic, you have got onto this really quickly and got yours self an appointment which is great. I think sometimes there can be pain with breast cancer but there are also probably lots of other things that can cause your symptoms.
Try to stay away from general Google searches, look around this site, Cancer Research and Macmillan are best.
When is your appointment at the breast clinic?
You will probably tend to imagine all sort of scenarios and for some reason, your mind seems to settle on the negative outcomes! If you find yourself doing this, 1. Try and do something to distract yourself and 2. Remember it is just what you are thinking and is absolutely no indication of what will be found!
It will probably be nothing sinister at all and if it was, you have noticed it and taken action quickly so it would be very treatable.

Thankyou for the reply I have already done a lot google searching it gave me panic attacks so I had to stop! My appointment is next Thursday but I am not entirely sure what to expect as they have me no indication. I noticed today the nipple on the other side. Sinks a little too but both are only when I lay down. So I am .wondering if they have always done that and i have just never noticed. I.don’t tend to examine them much anyway
It could well be that you have just noticed something for the first time that is normal for you. The good thing is you can find out more next Thursday.
Although there are variations, the clinic will probably do some mammograms, and maybe ultrasound. If they see anything, they may do a ‘fine needle biopsy’ with local anaesthetic to take a sample. If they do a biopsy, it usually takes about a week to get the results.
Even if if you suspect it might well be just the way you are, it will be time well spent to get it checked out and have your mind put at rest.

Thankyou I will let you know how it goes. Just need to try and.relax till then
New development. I have noticed that if I rub the tender area the pain sort of disappears. I left it alone completely today and there was a horrible painful mass under my nipple. So rubbed on it and now can’t feel it again. It’s almost as if I push it back into my breast somewhere and it kind of pushes it’s way back out . Has anyone else had this??? I am seriously freaking out now. Please help
I’m ashamed to say I didn’t even detect my lump…until I got the call back after my mammogram, then I found its! Obviously I didn’t have symptoms like yours, so I can’t offer much help. Try reposting, maybe titled something like ‘Lump that goes away when pushed’ or something like that, maybe you will pick up some answers there.
Only three more nights to the clinic, sometimes they can give you an answer right away or they might do a biopsy and the results from that usually take about a week. Hang in there, you’ll soon have some answers!

They may do and an ultrasound but its all fine and nothing to worry about , its highly likely you will be totally fine but i know how awful the waiting is , just try to keep yourself occupied as much as possible, it wont stop you thinking but helps the time pass quicker xx
Hope it went well today, Tinkerbell.

Thankyou Amanda!
I had a slightly enlarged duct but other than that no lumps or anything there so that makes me happy! I guess I am ok!
Well it sounds like good news, so pleased to hear that!
Was it just mammograms and ultrasound or did they do a biopsy?
Hopefully that’s it over and done with now!
Amanda x
She felt around but couldnt feel a lump. then sent me straight for an ultrasound. she couldnt see anything at all other than the enlarged duct. It still hurts and I still think I can feel it. But would an enlarged duct feel painful?
I guess an enlarged duct might feel painful, if it is bigger than it should be, then it might well hurt. It sounds like although they have checked you over and reassured you it’s not anything sinister, you still could do with some answers and to what is actually going on in there! I’m guessing they didn’t know why your duct is enlarged?
Do you feel ok about everything now?
Amanda x
I hope you are ok please don’t panic to much the good thing is that you have an appointment with the right department hunni! X
Sorry I didn’t realise the comments scrolled upwards not downwards just read them all x
I kind of feel like I want a second opinion or at least an explanation. She said she would send the ultrasound results to my doctor so maybe he can shed some more ligh. They gave me a leaflet on breast pain but that’s about it x
Sounds like you should make a Dr’s appointment for when you hope they will have The ultrasound results. You mind will not settle until you have a proper explanation and you need to get to the bottom of what is causing your symptoms anyway. You shouldn’t be having to put up with the pain, either.
Amanda x
I thought that. I kind of want closure. What is your story hun? I have been very me me me x
Gosh Tinkerbell…how much time have you got?! I’ll try to be brief!
I was 53 on 3rd August. Second routine mammogram in July and I got a call back letter to go to the breast clinic on the 4th August. 11th August I went back to be told it was an invasive ductal cancer, a 11mm tumour. The plan was a WLE (lumpectomy) with sentinel lymph node biopsy and then radiotherapy followed by tamoxifen for five years. The pathology report after that led to a MRI scan showed other areas of concern and I opted to have a mastectomy and they also took as many lymph nodes in the breast area as they could find. The results from that have led me to have FEC-T chemotherapy which started on Christmas Eve. When it’s done it wil be radiotherapy for three weeks then tamoxifen for eight years ans a different drug after that, once I’m fully menopausal. I’m half way through chemo now.
You need to try and establish when your GP get the report and get an appointment and proper explanation. It’s not totally unheard of that breast cancer can cause pain, and even though it seems there is nothing there, you want to know what is causing your symptoms and how best to deal with it. Maybe they will suggest a follow up at the breast clinic at some future date. I expect you may have come across this already cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/type/breast-cancer/about/breast-cancer-symptoms
