August 2018 Radiotherapy

Hey sunflower. I did exactly the same…was told it was ok to but didn’t want to run the risk… so I’ve waited. But I also am thinking shall I, shan’t I… I need to cut it and there was a special offer on with Groupon, a salon near me, so thought should I. I might phone the salon tomorrow and see what they recommend…

I had my hair dyed at the end of week 1 of radiotherapy and it seems to have given my hair a good conditioning as well as hide the grey!!!
Do whatever makes you feel better as going through this treatment is hard enough xxx hugs to everyone xxx

Aww Can I just say to all you inspiring ladies, before I close my eyes to sleep. Thank you once again. I think I will call tomorrow and treat myself, I’ll call it my birthday present to myself. I have a grey strip running straight down, my friends say call it fashionable, whilst i try and paint it with the hair cover up powders, even used my eyeshadow. Goodnight all. Sweet dreams

Well that’s me done. Had a little cry then rang that bell. Thank you to all you ladies for your support and wise words. Good luck with your treatments I know I will be back on line soon but for the next few days I’m just going to enjoy being me. Love to all you brave ladies xxx. Chris

Nice one Chris ? xx

Yay, Chris …well done…

Go and enjoy yourself, and be yourself too.

It’s the last week for me on Monday, no bell to ring in our unit sadly…

Well to Chris. Enjoy the no hospital trips and have a fab weekend being just you. X

I’m ringing the bell for you, another marker along the way of this rocky, unchosen road.
Good luck for the future.
Xxx

15/20 treatments completed - yay! Well done to all of you that have finished or our still in treatment xxx keep strong xx am amazed and proud of you all xxx
Have a good weekend xxx

Well done Chris xxxxxx

Lucaboo. _ Sue you have to ring that bell but expect the emotions to come out like a tsunami. I really didn’t want to ring it like you I just wanted to run out and not look backwards but my husband insisted… and whilst I did blubber like mad it was really weird because I felt like a weight had been lifted off my chest. We all know journey isn’t over but it’s a significant milestone reached and should be marked so if you can try and ring it. If you don’t l will have to ring my door bell for you.!! Not long to go you have been so brave and put up with a lot. Will text you in the morning xx

Mcnulcc Chris…ahh thanks youve been though more than me though and i commend you. You have helped me so much these last few weeks…honestly you will never know how much. I think everyone is just tired and emotional i think the way im going i wont be ringing that bell i’ll be lumping in someones head… my mind seems to be lacking in empathy at the mo lol…i keep looking at the clock wherever u am so i can get t bed and get another rads over god awful, as you well know.
I see someone said it was your 60th birthday im not sure when its is …but the happiest of birthdays…to the loveliest lady who saved my sanity…love and hugs xxxxx

I finished my sessions last Fri (10th) and suffered some very sore skin underneath and into my armpit, but luckily that has recovered quite quickly. However, the large egg-sized patch from my booster sessions is red raw and weeping in patches - every time I get undressed I take another layer of skin off. I am using Medihoney and Intrasite - I’ve even tried Sudocrem - not sure whether to put a dressing on it or if that will make it worse! Any tips or suggestions?? TIA

ok thanks Helena x

it’s all pretty hideous, eh!

Just scanned the more recent replies on this thread - Camilla I’m sorry to hear you are suffering badly too - hope you’ve managed to have a nice weekend.

No bell to ring in Guildford either…

Niknak- my poor nip took the brunt of boosters. It was literally red raw and a scab developed but somehow it wasnt weeping at all.
Anyway, i just got some lanolin cream and wore breast feeding pads for a week or so and everything cleared up in a week.
6 weeks after rads and i still moisturise and use Bio-oil and my skin is as soft as a babies bottom!!
Im fascinated at how well everything has healed. I also put it down to drinking as much water as i can.

Xxxx

Lucaboo, hope these last few days go swiftly for you, like you I shall be happy not to have to make this daily trek…I know it’s been pretty stressful as you’ve had a long distance to travel and early starts…my times have been all over the place but I’m lucky in that it’s not so far and I’ve been driven each day by hubby…even the car parking has been fairly stress free thank goodness ! (Not his favourite thing…) Yep, the machines are clinically scary and look like something out of a sci-fi movie, and occasionally I’ve lain there wishing they were indeed futuristic and were zapping me with nanobots to kill all nasties and regenerate new cells…?, but no, dream on…

The staff, though at this Unit, are not cold and clinical, - fair dos they have to operate this constantly moving conveyer belt of zapping folks, but I’ve watched them, - with wheelchair bound and frail elderlies, treating them with utmost care and compassion, and it made me feel pretty glad to have been treated there too. They are bothered, if you know what I mean, to do things for you, and not dismiss concerns.

So far, skin is holding up,sorry to hear of other’s painful bits and hoping I get away with it ?-(my sort of painful area at the mo seems to be at the side under arm…) but am madly drinking water, slapping on cream, and fridge cooled Aloe gel…Polymem at the ready (thank you Helena for the tip, and looking forward to a nice loud Big Ben bell peal on here !)

Returning to a kind of normal still feels a very very long way off, though, and I’m so grateful that I can come on  here and be amongst others, yourselves, who know and understand this.

Hope that Chris and Annieapple and other recent finishers are happily taking it easy and enjoying not having this daily grind ! We will be joining them soon, Lucaboo…

xx

Ding ding ding, that’s me done!  Yay!!

All the best to everyone still going or yet to start xx

Amyjb,

Well done you…?!! It’s great to be all over with the trek…

Lucaboo,

What a pain there’s still one day left for you, that does drag it out, it’ll be because the machine was broken on your first day won’t it ? Skin still seems to be OK thanks, been using a very light moisturiser called Child’s Farm as I found Aveeno a bit thick, I’ve never suffered from dry skin thank goodness, and never really needed to moisturise like this before ! As I have to moisturise and massage my arm every day because of the lymphoedema, I found the skin sort of ‘dragged’ and felt soggy, so this baby stuff is great, soaks in straightaway and is light…and the Aloe Vera is lovely after treatment. Nice and cool.

My last treatment was on Friday morningbut they’ve pushed the time back to 2pm , ah well…

Xx

Amyjb. Well done on finishing the Rads. Yesterday was my first day without the daily trek. Had my hair and nails done and have to say it was so nice to be normal. Good luck ladies who finish this week xx
