August 2024 chemo starters

Sorry you feel that way @lilly123 ,

For me I feel the worst the day after I finish my steroids… just everything crashes: menopausal symptoms hyped, lack of energy, feeling generally unwell. Unable to do anything, most times not even crochet… usually i just stare at the tv without even watching it and nap whilst i can… miles away from how you’re feeling and i know i feel like crap, so sending you lots of love, empty and compassion wraped in a hug. Xx

Thank you @dhmb
How long do you go down hill for?

Basicly it starts improving slightly the following Monday and on Thursday- day before treatment - I’m fine again, just very frustrating.

Plus side I’m hoping is that this is only with EC, next treatment will be taxil, so fingers crossed will be kinder :crossed_fingers:

What’s the next step for you now @lilly123 , did you call anyone? Sorry for asking but struggling with my mind today x

Hi ladies
I havent posted for a while but have been keeping up with your progress.

Im 5 days post EC#3 and struggling a bit today. Feeling rather down and havent had any energy or inclination to do anything at all. I just want to lie down with my eyes closed as i cant face anything. Even walking upstairs is a struggle.

It feels quite small to be moaning about having heard the lot harder times some of you are going through but i guess its all starting to get on top of me today.

Hope you lovely ladies are having a sunshiny day. Xx

Hi @sievehead

Nice to hear from you xx
Not small at all, all our side effects are significant to us and interferes with our lives. So sorry you’re feeling low today. It’s ok to have bad days. I get worse as soon as the second week arrives. I’m day 8 and been in bed since Saturday.

Iv cried all day today more than I did when I found out I have cancer.

Isn’t it just awful  sending big hugs :hugs: xx

@lilly123 we’re on the same meds/cycle. I don’t feel better until I finish the Filgrastim injections. So day 10 energy levels start improving but these last two rounds I’ve had a cold on week two. I got conjunctivitis last round and this round I have sore eyes and a bit of a rash on my face but at least I haven’t had the awful sore/burning mouth that I got the first round.
Food tastes awful and my sense of smell is all chemo and horrible.
Wishing you all strength and speedy recoveries :hibiscus:

Oh bless you @lilly123. It’s all just a bit sh*t isnt it?
Looking for the positives today i had a lovely little card in the post from my Auntie which was a boost and my beautiful burmese cat Eric has been snuggling up with me today. Got to take the wins when you can.
And a little joke to maybe give you all a giggle (or a groan!)…

I ordered a chicken and an egg online.
I’ll let you know what comes first.

Hi

I must admit that I always smell chemo especially in the first few days. Hard smell to describe and I wonder if it comes out of our pores? Glad it’s not just me :+1:

@bigpickle the smell comes in waves but it’s right in my nostrils, no escaping it

@lilly123 I’m on EC currently. My worst days are the 3 days after my steroids end so days 4 to 6. Then i start to improve. By day 10 I feel normal. The dizziness was bad on this cycle and I struggled to be up and about. I had low blood pressure but its ok now. I’ve one more EC, then docetaxal, which I’m very nervous about starting.

I was told EC was one of the harshest, but it hasnt been too bad in the 2nd and 3rd week of each cycle.

Hoping those feeling ill improve as their cycle progresses. I bet we will all be glad when this over. My last chemo is December 6th. I’m really looking forward to a Christmas without chemo, and maybe even an Easter with hair!

Ladies…we’ve done so well. We can get this done! One round at a time, we can get through it. Xxx

I start to go downhill about day 4-5 (or at least both times so far have). Then started picking up about a week later and feeling more myself, so I’m expecting the rest of this week to be crap and hopefully next week a bit better (we’ll see). It took me over half an hour to change my bed today and I had all the sheets and duvet and stuff already there, I actually had to take a rest it was too exhausting.

Focusing on a positive today though, my nephew started stroking/hugging my legs under a table this afternoon. Not quite a proper hug but I’m taking it (first physical contact he’s made). I wore a cute panda hat with bobbles to hide the hair loss.

Hi all

My final chemo should be 9th December but the targeted therapy to continue 3 weekly for another year feels huge looking at the side effects of that alone can be awful.

I had my hair cut short last night, looks ok with a headband on as have many patches round the sides. I must a admit it’s a bit chilly :joy:

I am full of cold today waiting for GP to call, I really just want to take paracetamol but know I can’t. I just want to feel better. I’m sure my other half has had enough now

Holding on to positives, My brother is over from sweden so hoping to see him this week

Hope your all having a good day xx

I’m the same with treatment but I’m really hoping the radiotherapy and phsego injections will be a bit easier in comparison to the docetaxel and carboplatin :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers:
I have a cold and sore/dry eyes for this rounds week two :disappointed:

Can I ask those of you who are pre or peri menopausal if the chemo has affected your periods?

I’m 47 and I was pretty sure I was peri menopausal, having had very infrequent periods for last 18 months. My last period was in August. I’ve only had 4 this year.

Will chemo end my periods temporarily or forever?

Just curious really. X

I was due my period the day of my second cycle (44 years old, pretty regular with likely endometriosis so they were always a hideous time), last Wednesday, and it’s still not come. I was dreading it. Haven’t had a period since I started treatment (I’m hoping my uterus has figured out I don’t need the stress and given up the ghost).

@sez endometriosis is horrid. I have a friend with it. Maybe the periods wont come back. I suppose tamoxifen will stop them too. I don’t really care if my periods come back but i dont like the uncertainty. Maybe they will give me a blood test after chemo to check? X

Hi @sez
I hadnt hit the menopause when i started treatment (53 and the rotters still keep turning up, although since the beginning of this year not quite so regularly).
I had my last period on day 3 of my first chemo. Nothing since and i do hope thats the end of them!
My oncologist said that the chemo was likely to put me in menopause but some pre-menopausal ladies do start up again after treatment has finished.
That would be just my luck…but its time my monthly cycle packs its bags for good!
