@sez that made me laugh! but I get what you mean!
On a separate matter, why am I always so hungry?!
The steroids post chemo make me starving!
Fully at the end of my tether with a moany husband whining about his sniffles and mild cold todayā¦ Struggling not to snap
Hi all
So despite a great first week after final EC, I feel out of it now. Steroid crash today so that was expected, but indigestion and heartburn is horrendous, breathlessā¦couldnāt change bedding even though hubby was helping, peeing for England as the C part has irritated my poor bladder to distraction, drinking loads to keep flushing it out, skin sore where alcohol swabs were used during line care, and itās raining all the time. This time of year always gets me down anyway, but it is magnified at the moment.
Sorry for feeling sorry for myself , but needed to let it out.
@beckya Iām only 3 days off my next chemo but seem to be always hungry. I think Iām less tolerant too. If anyone looks at me when Iām wearing my little turban I feel quite beligerant. Also my husband has been really good but I know Iām a bit grumpy, just fed up with all these needles and tests and scansā¦. should be grateful theyāre looking after me. Yes though more minor colds and things can feel quite insignificant these days!
@bigpickle sorry itās hit you now. I start ec next and was told it can affect the heart muscle so can cause breathlessness etc. Have you got omeprazole or similar for the heartburn? Time to take it easy (apart from all that drinking!). Take care xx
@bigpickle āLetting it outā on this forum is one of the reason its here and why we are all here too. When you are feeling the side effects everything is else is magnified too. Last week I had a very tough week following EC#3 and at the time i honestly didnt think Id ever feel better ever again and wanted to jack it all in. Fast forward a few more days and im back to normal again and wondering why i was in such a āfugā. You will soon be feeling more human again but in the meantime keep venting. Xx
Thanks both.
Onc giving me omeprazole when I have my next chemo on 14 October. I am hoping that as the days go by it will ease. I guess it is the cumulative effect of chemo. The breathless can also be a sign of red blood cell count dropping, and I think I do look more pale now.
It is so comforting to know I am not alone, and fingers crossed I will feel better in a few days.
Gorgeous dog @bigpickle. I know that feelingbof the post steroid crash.
Iām bracing myself for final EC on Friday before the docetaxel. Got a really bloated tummy. Dont know whatās causing itā¦milk maybe as Iāve been craving cereal, cream, dairy? Also weeing a lot and Iām so thirsty all the time. Worried that i have chemo induced diabetes, but I bought a home blood tester and did blood sugars and they are normal before and after meals, plus my hbla2 test is normal on every blood test. So could the chemo be making me thirsty and wee a lot?
@anne3 and @beckya the steroids make me hungry, but even now when Iām 2 weeks past steroids, Iām still hungry. Ive put it down to boredom as Im not at work and not very busy. When they weighed me at oncologist appointment yesterday, Iād depressingly gained 4lb since last chemo.
@bluesatsuma interesting you mention blood sugars as mine seem to have gone up to a āpre diabetesā level suddenly. Theyāve always been fine before - I did read that chemo can cause changes but Iām desperate not to add diabetes to my list of ailments! so trying to avoid added sugars as much as I can.
Yes @anne3 I also read that. Mine have been checked and seem fine but Iām still worried. As I say, I bought a device to check and theyve been in normal range everytime, even when Iāve eaten a lot. I will ask them to check hbla2 again after chemo. Prediabetes can be reversed with a good diet and exercise, so Iāll be trying to prevent it that way. I do not want anything else to worry about either!
X
@bluesatsuma. yes same here. I had put weight on after last Christmas and then probs ate too much chocolate and biscuits after my bc diagnosis but levels were fine in Jan. Been avoiding the obviously sugar filled stuff recently, probably why Iām hungry! Will look into getting a blood sugar device too I think. So much lately
Hey
I have type 2 diabetes and was on tablets but am now on insulin due to not being able to control my levels since I started chemo, the steroids are the thing that makes my levels spike and then being unwell.
I really wouldnāt worry too much while your going through treatment my glucose have been up to 25 and donāt drop below 17 when Iām on the steroids. They are not overly worried.
I have been told everything will return back to how it was before the chemo started when I finish the treatment and should be able to come off the insulin and go back on tablets.
Itās very hard as I have had so many cravings since chemo started. My tastebuds are however not the same as they were and everything tastes a bit wierd! Xx
@lilly123 sorry to hear youāre coping with diabetes at the same time as all this. Thank you for the reassurance though that it could well be the steroids causing an increase in blood sugar Iām hoping mine will return to normal when I finish. I never envisageed all these extra problems!
@lilly123 that is good that theyvexpect everything to go back to normal after chemo and you can stop using insulin. So much to deal with and worry about these days. Hope youāre doing well xxx
Hey everyone
Just to report that today I am feeling much better . The weather is better which certainly helps. Really think the last 3 days have been the worst since all this started, and doubtless there will be more bad days. Today went for a lovely walk with the dog, and managed to do the ironing!
Thanks for all your support xx
Hi @bigpickleš
So glad youāre feeling better and more yourself makes the world of difference doesnāt it?
Hugs to everyone
@bigpickle Glad youāre feeling better . I was having a lovely day yesterday - trip to a museum exhibition then a meal out - then the bc nurse rang saying they needed another blood test doing as not enough in the original one to do the full blood count. That was fine but I managed to get the wrong person at the surgery who put all sorts of barriers in place - the results wonāt go to the hospital, we havenāt got paperwork etc etc. I had to really fight my cornerā¦. suffice to say once the right person heard the story it was put right straight away, bloods done and sent off and results available early this morning. I got quite upset on the phone as she wouldnāt listen, it all feels too much when youāre already coping with so much!
Anyway first ec chemo tomorrow so all is ok. Good luck everyone else back on the chemo ward tomorrow - @bluesatsuma I think you are? Take care everyone
