August 2024 chemo starters

Awww I have my 4th round of docetaxal and carboplatin on Monday but Iv got very low energ levels already, only just made it round tesco this evening. Iv got neuropathy in my fingers and toes and just Really dreading another round. I would have asked for a break if I hadn’t been finishing before Christmas!

Sending lots of hugs sounds like we all need it xx

@songbird1 early days for me on the taxane so I am expecting it all to kick in soon and I know the side effect accumulate. Sorry you aren’t feeling great, but you ate nearly there! Hope the rest goes quickly and well. Xxx

Well done on the first doxectaxel going off smoothly and fingers crossed the side effects are ok for you.

I was in the chair yesterday for my fourth and final EC after worked with onco to change the plan, first time I’ve ever felt nauseous whilst it was being administered but if Im honest i think it was the cold cap making my feel sick! Was may latest appt (1pm) for chemo as well which I was expecting to be awake all night with the dexamethasone but came home had dinner and all but passed out on the sofa!

for those with it to come, PICC line removal straight after the flush was super straightforward, line coming out I barely felt, just the pesky little clips were a little bit sore but totally bareable.

Sending love to everyone and hoping all our side effects are kept at bay the coming days x

Thank you @beckya. Despite the epic 8 dexamethsone pills I had to have for 3 days with docetaxel, i actually got 6 hours sleep on and off last night. Feeling ok so far but achey and thirsty.

Great that you are all finished on EC. Are you totally done now if theyve removed picc? I found last EC easiest for side effects so hope you do too. Didn’t cold cap, but no hair fell out at all on last EC, in fact its growing. Not sure if docetaxel will kick start hair shedding again.

Wishing everyone a pleasant pain free saturday. Halloween decorating with the kids today and hopefully a walk. X

Great news @beckya , as @bluesatsuma said, whats next?

I noticed that as well @bluesatsuma , or should I say my husband did, hair is making a comeback :raised_hands::raised_hands: and he’s now gained the habit of out if the blue pet it too :sweat_smile: I don’t mind I think it’s his way of celebrating the little big stuff.

Yesterday at treatment the nurse noticed too, so when i finished i went home without anything on my head and must admit it felt darn good too. Later asked hubby would it be ok to go out in public with nothing he said: you can see that something is/was going on and it is thin but it’s ok so it’s really up to you.

I’m thinking with the colder weather I’ll be needing a beanie, better get cracking making one. Last one i did my daughter ended up having it because she said quote: oh mum that’s so cool ! Is it for me? I love it. And just like that i was beanless again🤣

I usually don’t decorate for Halloween, but this year thought, why not? Asked my youngest (13yrs old) he said: nah…:roll_eyes: might as well gring out the Christmas tree , why not ???

Wishing everyone a peaceful and healthy day xx

@bluesatsuma and @dhmb thanks both!

@bluesatsuma glad you managed to get some sleep, it makes all the difference

Yup chemo is now done for me, it was post mastectomy for LVI risk, so they are happy with 4 cycles. Next onco clinic appointment is the 19th November but barring any major changes the plan is radiotherapy for chest wall on mastectomy side and then onto tamoxifen for 10 years I believe due to my age.

Had a wobble mid week as they have booked me for a ct to my neck post visit to a and e but general consensus is they are being cautious and it’s post COVID glandular swelling I’ve been dealing with, it’s subsided now and like it never happened!

EC side effects touch wood have been quite kind to me, just tiredness after the steroid drop off and mouth ulcers around day 10. Last 7 filgrastrim injections and then the sharps bin can be returned.

Cold cap wise, it’s done an ok job for me, Def some patchiness and bits to hide but in the most part so far it’s alright.

Wishing you all a lovely Saturday x

And @beckya did you ring the bell?
:bell::bell::bell::tada::tada::tada:
I thing you might be our first chemo finisher! Correct me if I’m wrong ladies.

Im sure the ct is just for reassurance. And those patchy bits will be gone soon. You can concentrate now on getting life back on track. :raised_hands: xxx

@dhmb I’m super impressed that you made a hat and your daughter thinks is cool. My daughter is almost 16 and nothing I do or say is cool anymore!

I’m not sure I’ll brave a hat less walk yet, and I’ve no idea what docetaxel will fo gor my hair, but if it keeps growing I will be pleased. I have 3 wigs, a hat with hair, a fringe, over 10 beanies and 6 scarves. Literally spent hundreds and I’ve favoured only 2 hats for whole time. What a waste!

Pegfilgrastim and 4 more steroids today, then i am down to one tablet of lansaprazole. Nothing else unless I feel ill until a few days before next cycle.

Feel like I’m on the home straight. We’ve all got this ladies! Xxx

Morning all

I love reading your stories and good to hear everyone is getting hm through this and despite how awful and bad we are we can still enjoy life, glad your chemo went well @bluesatsuma and amazing you finished yours @beckya that must feel so good!

We have a Halloween party today, if I had known how bad my energy levels were going to be we probably wouldn’t have done it, but it’s planned and everyone is coming so I’m sure I will enjoy it.

I am shocked at how exhausted I felt after making a chilli this morning, I’m back in bed for a rest!

I am shedding hair still I must admit I am fed up with wearing head scarfs i find them irritating as I would wigs, and I’m very tempted to start going out as I am! I am past the point of caring what anyone thinks about my patchy bald head! If anyone knew what we go through they would only feel empathy.

Anxious about my scan tomorrow and back on the dreaded steroids for chemo on Monday. Roll on Christmas xx

@bluesatsuma well she is 22 … going on 40 :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

@lilly123 sorry you’re feeling low energy, but after a rest and the party starts going I’m sure you’ll feel better :crossed_fingers: do you have a costume? I only did Halloween as a kid and now to go with my kids trick-or-treati g so i do admire adults that thoroughly enjoy Halloween :smiling_face: hope everything goes well for you :pray:

Wishing everyone well xx

There was no bell on my chemo ward :disappointed: but it still felt so good getting the last one done! Did feel slightly like an anticlimax walking out normally tho haha

@beckya - No bell on mine either. And i can imagine it would feel a bit of an anticlimax. I feel that as I’ve still got more surgery, radiotherapy and tamoxifen still to come, that the bell should be after all that anyway. Perhaps I’ll pop into work and borrow the playground bell!

@lilly123 hope the party perks you up. I love halloween - never used to, but the kids really like it so I’ve learned to love it. We’re doing an online escape room and halloween buffet this year, instead of our usual trick or treat. Didn’t fancy my kids rummaging in sll those germy sweet tubs. But I’m going to be answering the door to trick or treaters in day of the dead face paint and a flower garland band with black veil.

Xxx

@bluesatsuma yep i def agree with you about the bell on one side but on the other it’s to celebrate the end of chemotherapy i think so even if we still have a bit to go before we are free from cancer (sabe boat as you) it is the celebration still so i my mind it a dmall victory even ig it isn’t i don’t care :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

@beckya I’m too stuck in my ways i guess, but i fully enjoy going trick or treating with the kids (should really say son, she’s not interested says she’s too old :roll_eyes:) because some houses are absolutely amazingly done up and that i do enjoy :sweat_smile:

Hi - I’m glad it’s not just me! I’m not overly keen on Halloween but I nearly always carve a pumpkin for the window, then put on my witch’s hat and grab my broomstick to answer the door to any trick or treaters! Used to have a black witchy dress too…. :woman_mage:t3: :jack_o_lantern:

@anne3 I do like halloween but this year my heart isnt in it. Will do all the things we normally do, just skipping the trick or treating. Some streets near me go all out so we might take a walk. Xxx

Extra hour very welcome as I am wired on 8x2mg dexamethasones. Managed to sleep 12 till 4 but it’s really 5 hours with clock change so pleased with that.

Steroids finished now. Hoping for a paler face, more sleep and less carb craving. X

Glad you managed to sleep @bluesatsuma
I start the steroids today, I take them at 7am and 3pm, but it’s my diabetes that usually keeps me awake as my levels go up I’m more thirsty and end up on the loo most of the night!

Oh the dread :worried:

I hope you have a good day xx

Thanks @lilly123. Hope your steroids are a smaller dose than the monster dose you have with docetaxel. I was amazed that i had to go from 3 pills to 8. They mess with blood sugars in non-diabetics too and can cause temporary diabetes, something I’m nervous of due to being overweight and late 40s. I check on a meter occasionally and bloods are around 5 to 6 after fasting all night, and never higher than 7 after a meal, so think thats ok. However, I’m often very thirsty. That could be all the chemo drugs too though. Make sure you keep an eye on your bloods. There’s so much to think about!

Docetaxel so far so good for anyone starting it soon. Early days but I do feel ok so far thankfully. Xxx
