I don’t know what to do about my temperature. It’s still high. I’m scared to call red card for fear of another awful stay in a&e. They take hours to take the blood, no-one is ever picc line trained and they don’t know what to do with me, so I just sit alone for hours. Its over 38, but I feel fine, no signs of illness and I’m on antibiotics for a uti anyway.
Sorry you’re going through a rubish time @bluesatsuma
Ringing the red card see what they say is the right thing to do really just to be on the safe side but then again Ive not through it like you have … and totally and absolutely understand why you don’t want to go, plus you never know what you can pick up at hospital … if you’re feeling fine apart from temp id just monitor it, unless it spikes …
Oh no. This is what I absolutely hate, not knowing what to do for the best. It really affects my mental heath. I have always felt fine when my temperature spiked. If it is not coming down on its own then I suppose it is best to go back. I really hope you aren’t kept in.
What rotten luck.
Still here but got to go to the acute onco hot ward so I’m in an isolation tent with antibiotics. Still waiting for blood resuits but i had a nice dinner and its quiet, calm and uncrowded here. They had done swabs, obs, antibiotics and bloods in 10 minutes, whereas at my local hospital a&e, it took six hours to get the blood and obs alone done.
Hi all
Just catching up with everyone’s messages over the last few days!
I had my 5th round of docetaxel and carboplatin postponed as I am not recovered enough to have it. I can’t walk from one room to the next without having to sit down and catch my breath. I have absolutely no energy I havnt even showered for over a week! My legs and arms now have odema really bad. I really didn’t Think I could be so physically incapable of doing anything.
Pre chemo tomorrow see what they say this time!
Hope you get out of hospital soon @bluesatsuma. I ignored the temperature after round 3 as I felt well in myself. Havnt had one since but lots of accumulation of effects! I can see why people refuse to continue with the treatment now xx
@lilly123 this cocktail is brutal. I had round 5 last Thursday am only just feeling a bit better today but thankful they reduced carboplatin round four and five.
The lack of energy and nausea is awful but I don’t expect anything the first week and have my sights on week two and three of cycle, I’ll have a cold as soon as I’m off the filgrastim but looking forward to food not tasting like bleach - hoping by your recovery kicks in soon, sending hugs x
Hi @songbird1 are you able to get back to normal living after the 2nd week?
I am not fit for anything can’t even put a load in the washing machine and turn it on. It’s so frustrating and doesn’t feel right! I was worried my heart is damaged but I had an echo last week and havnt heard anything so I assume that’s fine xx
@lilly123 on second & third week I always get a really bad cold. I get toilet issues, mostly managed by meds but have had a couple of close calls and I feel tired but, so far, week two and three has been much more manageable for me. I don’t think I could’ve coped if they hadn’t reduced the carboplatin on round 4 and 5.
Did they reduce your dose?
One of my bcn’s said at the start of treatment, if you are sick during this, we are doing something wrong, there’s meds to address all ailments. Well, not for me on week one I just stay in my room and let my body recover, while feeling rubbish.
If you are still ill week 2 & 3 can they give you something to help? Omeprazole was a game changer for me. I wasn’t sleeping and was in so much abdominal pain for round 3 and over night it changed, even though Dr said it might take a few days to work, it was such a relief.
I really hope they can give you something to make it more manageable x
Hope youre all okay this morning. Got out of hospital last night and feeling better today. The antibiotics they put into my picc line are better than the pills i think. All bloods now normal so they think its just my body having a tantrum every time i get docetaxel. I’m hoping that I can end this week with 3 days where I don’t have to go into the hospital!
It’s so unfair isn’t it.
I am really poorly week 1, my mouth goes, can’t eat, I’m agony with the filgrastim causing leg pain. Week 2 and 3 I feel better in myself but I still have no energy.
I have managed to get a 10% reduction doesn’t sound like a lot does it!
The chemo nurse just said today that chemo can be this bad and affect people this way! I think if I get any worse I will be in a wheel chair. We will see after Monday when I have my 5th cycle.
I’m absolutely terrified
@dhmb so sorry to read your post. I hope you’re ok. Emotions are so all over the place aren’t they but it’s no surprise when faced with what we are all going through. One day at at time
I also ordered a product from Prime prometics, it’s the PrimeEyes eye glider. I love it. Whilst I can’t wear mascara I use this just inside the top lid and below and smudge it and it gives a nice definition on the eyes. It’s £25. Lots of choice and colours and so easy to apply. It really does glide😁xx
@bluesatsuma, so sorry to read that you’re having such a traumatic time with your treatment. How are you feeling this morning? I hope you’re starting to recover. I only experienced A&E once, it was at the same hospital where I have my treatment. They were so disconnected between departments. Despite having my red card and telling them that I was advised to come in, they asked me if my oncologist was coming down to meet me. It was 1am in the morning so I told them it would be very unlikely:roll_eyes:. I felt I was the first person going through chemo that had ever visited them. They did at least listen to me when I said I had to be isolated. Sending hugs and love. I hope you see improvements soon
Hugs and love to all of you feeling awful with your chemo, sounds like most of this group are well and truely on the countdown now.
Starting radiotherapy over here on 2nd December and had my planning scan last week, very odd lying in the car scanner being manipulated about topless to get measurements! Also worth mentioning the deep breath hold technique, if advised you need to do it by radio consultant start practicing! It’s not too bad once you get to grips with it.
Had second to last appt with oncologist this week after a terrifying wait for CT scan results on my neck after my own a and e visit about a month ago, nothing cancer related thankfully but transpires I’ve had a blood clot from my picc line for a month so now 6 months of blood thinners for me!
Wishing everyone the best for their next rounds of chemo xx
@beckya how frightening for you. Thankfully it’s fixable but still so worrying. Good luck with your next part of the journey.
I had my last chemo yesterday feeling quite elated at the moment.
I have my CT scan booked for 11th December in prep by for my radiotherapy starting early January. I also have the genetic clinic consultation on 12th December. That’s all negative.
I hope you all have a stress free and relaxing weekend. Xx
I have another chemo to go, but they have called me in for my ct scan for radiotherapy next Tuesday. I can’t start until early January, but have been told that I will have 5 consecutive days, followed by 4 boosters to the site of the tumour. They seem very on the ball with it.
