Beds/Northants/North East Bucks?

I’m in a village about 6 miles west of Bedford, having chemo at the wonderful Primrose Unit at Bedford Hospital (three FEC down, three Tax to go) and will have rads at Addenbrookes in late May.

I haven’t come across anyone even vaguely local to me in my meanderings across these boards, so is there anyone out there?

Hi. I live in a village close to Leighton Buzzard. If you look on the “Anyone from Bucks/Herts fancy a meet-up ?” thread you will see there is someone else from Bedford. We meet up every few weeks but it is in St Albans which is about 45mins driving for me and probably the same for you but you would be very welcome if you wanted to join us. Pam x

Hi I live in a village just outside Milton Keynes on the northants border. I’m having my chemo 6 x FEC in mk hospital but my rads will be at Northampton hospital. You 2 are the closest I have come across as well.

Hi Blue dragonfly. I have one son who lives in Paulerspury and one in Northampton so I am in your neck of the woods quite often.

We’re a bit think on the ground round here, aren’t we? Nice to meet you though!

Hi ladies!

I live in Milton Keynes and had my 6th and final FEC at the Macmillan Unit in Milton Keynes Hospital on the 9th of March.

I can’t praise the nurses enough. They are kept constantly busy and often go without breaks and work late with no extra pay.

If you give the receptionist your parking ticket she will authorise free parking.

Wendy.

I agree Wendy the nurses there are amazing and are always rushing around taking care of everyone and you get cuppa and sandwich if your there lunchtime. I can’t praise them enough either. The breast unit is second to none as well amazing BN there.

Hi ladies I live in Bedforfdshire close to you all. It would be lovely to meet up. Having FEC 3 tomorrow, yippee as this will be the final of Stage One. I will then have to go onto TAC which is worrying me a little. Maybe we should organise a get together as it would be lovely to meet/support one another. FEC 1 and FEC2 were both different so I am hoping that I am only out of action for a few days. One can hope!!! Adi

Sounds like a good plan to meet up, any suggestions to where and when?

Hi Adi, I’m in Turvey, where are you?

Are you at Bedford Hospital? I’ve done 3 FEcs and had a Hickman line in today and have Tax 1 at 11am tomorrow so If you’re in the Primrose I might see you. Most of the ladies seem to wear wigs but I’m totally bald so wouldn’t be hard to spot.

A meet would be lovely!

Hello Everyone,

I’ve actually had FEC 1 at the Saxon Clinic MK and am planning to have FEC 2 at home as I have private health insurance through my husband’s job. I’ll be having my rads at Northampton General though as private hospitals don’t have the equipment!

Hope all is going well with you.

Hello Hope4444,

I have private cover through work as well and had my op and scans privately to speed things up. It made a difference of about two weeks so not massive in the scheme of things, but good psychologically. It also meant I had my op in a little private hospital and because it was Christmas Eve I was the only patient in overnight. How’s that for one-on-one nursing care!!!

I’ve opted to have my chemo and rads on the NHS because going private would have been having the same treatment in the same place at the same time, and if I go with the NHS the insurers will pay me £100 for every single chemo and rads treatment. I’m hoping that’ll pay for us to have a little break at the end - my husband has said he wants to take me somewhere nice.

I didn’t realise until recently that Northampton did rads though - I have to go to Addenbrookes which is much further away. We’re on the west border of Beds so less than half an hour from Northants hospital - Addenbrookes is over an hour away. I could probably go there privately but I think now I’ll stick with the team I’ve got and have my holiday paid for by the insurers!

Hi i had my rads at NGH after op in Three shires, dont have private insurance but we funded it ourselves as it gave me the TLC that i needed as i did not cope well in the early days. The radiographers were brilliant it is a lovely fairly new unit too and i can honestly say i have no complaints on the way they treated me, i also have all my followups at NGH as my consultant works at both hospitals, i am nearly 4 years down the line and have my next follow up on Monday.

love to all

Annie

Hi Charhie,

I had my ops at the Three Shires too.
Good luck for Monday.

thanks hope

Sorry Ladies not been keeping up as FEC 3 has been the worst and only feeling better over last couple of days.

Jane I am just south of Milton Keynes, and having all my treatment in Great Missenden, Buckinghmshire. Having it all private as have the cover through work.

Start Taxols on 13th April, which are scaring me a bit. Surely they can’t be worse than FEC? I know we are all different so not expecting Magic answers. I am really  Hope you all have a lovely weekend. x Adi
