Biopsy waiting

Hi all. I’m 46 and waiting for results. Needing to talk but my husand just says we have to wait and see. I had 3 biopsies on left side for a 5cm solid fixed mass. The consultant said it was highly probable to be cancer but my lymph nodes were clear. Just wanted to know how long people wait for biopsy results? Im going crazy waiting! Im struggling in my role as a teacher and my own 3 kids think I’m acting strange. 9 days I’ve been waiting. Everyone says they’d have contacted me straight away if it was cancer so it must be negative, but im sure it wont be. I will cope better when i know the plan, but right now I’m so stressed. Hope everyone is doing well and good luck to you all.

Hi there, I’m in my forties too (42) I had to have three biopsies (two came back as benign and one malignant). I had to wait about 2 weeks in between for the results and they just rang and told me over the phone, which I wasn’t really expecting . I agree the waiting is the worst part, weirdly enough when I actually knew it was cancer I started to accept it. I have an MRI booked for next week so they can check the size and see if it’s spread or in my other breast, then it will be some form of surgery and radiotherapy. It’s very hard to get your head around, but I keep thinking there are lots of lovely ladies on here that are getting through things the best they can as we are stronger than we think. Rachel xx

Thank you Rachel. I hope all goes well with your mri. May i ask whether you got a diagnosis of any kind from the biopsy? The consultant was sure my lump was cancerous but that biopsy would confirm. X

Hello ladies

I am also 46.

I had my biopsy on 11th November and I was told by the consultant at that appointment it was suspicious - he said they use a number system based on how the mass looked on my ultrasound where 1 is normal and 5 is cancer and I was told at the initial appointment that the mass in my breast was a 4.

I got the confirmation that it was cancer at a follow up appointment on the 21st November so took about 10 days. I’m now waiting for additional biopsies as had to have an MRI scan too and this has shown a couple of additional areas that they want to check.

Hope you get your results soon - I absolutely agree the waiting is so hard mentally, most days I struggle to think or focus on anything else. Think once I get a treatment plan it will give me more of a sense of control over what is happening. I have spoken to my breast cancer nurse when things have gotten on top of me and she has been amazing so far.

Good luck to you both with your results I totally understand how you’re feeling at this moment in time xxx.

Morning. Yes I got a diagnosis of high grade DCIS, but the MRI might show something different. It’s scary, but once you have a diagnosis (if it is malignant) it will be a shock, but you will be assigned your own breast nurse that you will be able to talk with whenever you need to, they are brilliant x

Hello. I had 3 biopsies and had to wait about 2 weeks too. That’s the usual time. I work at the hospital too. Just keep calling or email your BC nurse and say how anxious you are. I went in for a Consultation to get my breast cancer diagnosis but every Trust works differently. Try and distract yourself until you go.
Sending love x

Thank you. I am sorry your news was not great but I do feel better to know I’m not alone. Today is 10 days since biopsy so hopefully I’ll hear soon. They didnt tell me a number at US but he did say it looked like cancer. Hope we both get treatment plans this side of xmas! Good luck.

Thanks Natalie. Thats reassuring. I havent been assigned a nurse as my biopsy was on a sunday. They said there were no nurses at weekends. Maybe they will sort that out at results. Good luck and i hope all is going well so far.

Hi bluesatsuma,

Sorry to hear that you are in the awful waiting period, it is such a difficult time and so hard to focus. I was in your position a few weeks ago. Had biopsys taken on the 31st october , they told me nothing at the time. I had an appointment with my consultant on 15th nov and they confirmed it was Cancer. I agree with the other ladies that once I got my diagnosis I felt better, I knew what I was dealing with. 2 weeks seems to be standard wait time but I would expect they would have given you and appointment by now. You should definitely call the hosp to ask about your appointment, and speak to a BC nurse, even if you dont have one assigned.
I have my surgery tomorrow and radiotherapy and hormone therapy in the new year, i just want to get started now.
Im a teacher too and its so hard to focus on anything when your mind is going to dark places, waiting and wondering. I havent been back to work since the 15th, I’m just taking this time to focus on myself and my own kids. Everyone is different tho, do whatever feels right for you.
I wish you all the luck in the world, hopefully things were not as they seemed and if you do get a diagnosis, there is lots of support on here and you will get through it. Please keep us posted,
Sending .
Clare.

Hi,
I was diagnosed with 2 small triple neg tumours 5 weeks ago.
Each histology took 3 weeks.
Unfortunately they were biopsied separately so had 3 weeks, then another 3 weeks.
I think each trust is slightly different on how long it takes to get the histology done.
Ask your breast care nurse to chase it and to phone you as soon as it’s completed

Everyone keeps mentioning breast cancer nurses but i dont have one and i dont even know what hospital to call as i had biopsies at a hospital in another trust due to a backlog.

Thank you for the advice though. I will wait for 14th day and then try and ring someone!

Good luck with your treatment.

I waited 4 weeks in July/August for the results. The HER+ positive result took the longest.

I know it’s hard but all you can do is wait. You won’t know until you know. They will tell you as soon as they know.

Hi, I waited 3 weeks for the result of my biopsy. The result was metastatic breast cancer. Hope you get your results soon. The waiting is indeed hard.

Thank you. Wishing you a speedy recovery. X

Thank you. Good luck with your treatment x

They will usually discuss your results at their MDT meeting and let you know after that. You could maybe ask the Department when they hold their MDT meeting’s and then you have an idea when they’ll call. I hope it’s good news for you :pray:t2: Take care xx
