Just to follow up on this morning’s coverage and your contributions to this discussion strand I wanted to let you know about our next steps.
We have been talking with the ASDA team today about their invitation to forum users to feed in opinions around ASDA’s ongoing campaign in support of Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Campaign.
At the moment, we don’t know exact timings or the format, but to start things off we would like to hear from any of you who would like to feed in your views to ASDA and the charities in a more structured way.
So if you are interested in taking part, we have set up a special email address which will be live for two weeks. Please email us your name, and contact details by Monday 12 October to <script type=“text/javascript”>eval(unescape(‘%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%74%69%63%6b%6c%65%64%70%69%6e%6b%66%65%65%64%62%61%63%6b%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%22%3e%74%69%63%6b%6c%65%64%70%69%6e%6b%66%65%65%64%62%61%63%6b%40%62%72%65%61%73%74%63%61%6e%63%65%72%63%61%72%65%2e%6f%72%67%2e%75%6b%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b’))</script>
We will then get back in touch with you to give further detail of the timings and logistics of the discussion.
Bumping this up before it gets lost.
Any chance of making this into a ‘sticky’ so it stays at the top for the time being so people will get a chance to see it?
Thanks magsi and Wizzbaby. The post is already sticky so it will remain at the top of the Hot Topics/Current Issues section and hopefully visible to all.
Hello girls I have already posted this on my regaular thread but i guess I need to say here too. I know mistakes have been made and apologies given - I thank all of them for trying to rectify this situation.
I feel for the moderators who have had to read our outraged threads recently. It could not have been easy at all.
I am proud of debs, sharon and cathy for their input equally i know what it is like to be in the media and to have people turn on you as happened to me in August and september of this year for talking about my weight loss and how it helped me to find the lumps that would have killed* me if left alone (*and may still). I was dismayed that some people thought i had soled out (but that is another story) as all money goes to BCC.
I want to say thanx to BCC and to all you girls for your help and support since my dx in april/may. I know you all have made a very tricky time more palatable.
I will be emailing and putting myself forward xxxx R
Katie Price didn’t offend me and I have had a double mx with immediate reconstruction. I have also spoken to other BC sufferers and they weren’t offended. If one person’s life is saved from celebrity fund raisers then in my opinion it is worth it. I just wish we had more publicity and these type of campaigns when my mum suffered during the 1980s and eventually died from this awful disease in 1989. I personally will always look at any fund raising as being a positive thing and a means to putting an end to this disease. The treatment I received was 100% better than my mam got in the 1980s and I really want to see another 100% improvement in treatments and diagnosis for the next generation. Unfortunately this costs money. I was speaking to a worker from the Coping with Cancer charity today and they said their funding has dropped considerably due to the credit crunch. Please don’t complain too much about funding campaigns or we might lose funding altogether. I do appreciate that some of the campaign titles may not be to everyones taste, but they do attract the public and in turn much needed money to fund research and care into this cruel disease.
I found the choice of Katie Price for the campaign unsuitable and tactless on ASDA’s part and I did complain to them. I also found the motifs on one of their T-shirts tasteless and complained about that as well. I feel that they listened to the objections and that they will liaise with BCC in future.
I have nothing personal against Katie Price. It is her choice how she wishes to live her life, but I don’t think her public image was the right one for breast cancer charities.
I also don’t, as I have said before have a problem with Pink October as I feel that it does raise much needed funds and awareness.
If all things were fair and equal (but they are not) no type of cancer or other terminal illnesses would have to rely on charity funding and campaigns.
I would like to add my thanks to BCC for the information I receive from them and to all on the forums for support when I need it.
Love and take care
Thistle
xx
Although this may be a ‘sticky’ at the top of the Hot Topics / Current Issues section, a lot of people only go to the Latest Posts or to threads they are following.
Is is possible to keep this at the top of Latest Posts? or shall we just keep bumping it up.
Oh well here goes …BUMP
I have been in touch with our Head of New Media about your suggestion. Unfortunately we cannot do this at the moment (technically) but are looking for solutions.
Thought it might be useful to re-post this on this page as well.
