Hi;
I am 2 years on from left mastectomy I stayed flat. Grade 1 stage 1 no nodes but multi focal tumours.
Just had 2nd mammogram and the junior doctor said all fine just normal benign calcifications. I was very happy and it wasn’t till I got home that I thought wait a minute… calcifications???
I have stupidly googled and the consensus seems to be it’s a normal part of ageing I’m 62 but I am just wondering if anyone else has had this and fine with it. My anxiety is getting the better of me and I almost wish I hadn’t been told about the calcification albeit it’s benign . I will call the nurse later to chat through as well.
Many thanks xxx

Thanks Chloe all good I spoke with breast team who read out the findings and because they were certain it was benign no further treatment required and normal ageing calcifications . All benign . Many thanks
I had recurrence (after 21 years) surgery in July and a mammogram on the other side. The mammo report said begnin calcifications. Its niggled me so I asked bcn today if these were new as its never been mentioned before(im 67). She said the calcifications have been there for a number of years so nothing to worry about. So I dont know why the screening mammograms have never mentioned that they were there but i feel better that its not a new change.
Glad you got to speak to someone though! Xx
Thanks Suzy. I almost wish they hadn’t told me. I dont think they were there 2 years ago but maybe last year as I only got a letter saying all normal. This year I was at clinic and she said mammo normal and benign calcifications. It niggled me too but when the bcn nurse read the letter out it said benign 3 times so they must be pretty sure! It appears to be very common post menopause so I will forget about it for another year ! Xx
Yes i think screening must just send out a standard letter if everything is “normal” where as maybe at clinic were told what ever changes there are regardless of benign or suspicions.
Must admit ive always thought my right breast was totally normal and being told ut has calcifications has concerned me slightly albeit a benign diagnosis. Im now thinking will they eventually become dcis as thats how my journey started 21 years ago.
But definitely benign atm so thats a positive and lets us off the hook for another year which is great! X
Yup totally agree but I guess we can’t live our lives with “what ifs” ( but I had that same thought). I was told nearly 80% of images have calcifications on them so I guess that proves that most are benign otherwise practically every post menopausal woman would have bca.
Sorry yours came back after 22years. I am at year 2 at 62 and hoping apart from the yearly scanxiety I can put it all behind me! X
Hi susy I just found out my first mammogram post diagnosis also had specks of microcalcifications on it but they deemed it 100% benign so no need to report in the mammogram result letter. So not much change this year maybe a few more apart from the fact they told me! The letter would have said all fine nothing suspicious showing. Anyway I think I feel a bit better knowing 2 mammograms had microcalcifications and both 100% benign x
