Ok I now have my first onco appointment so it’s getting real and I’m here for this!

I’m usually an eggs on white toast person for breakfast but have changed up to a grainy wholemeal bread and added a voluminous bed of lusciously dark green spinach leaves.

Honestly it was very tasty and actually felt more like I was eating real food!

Keep going @mssteel .

I have had to change to the world’s most bland and boring diet. Used to be wholemeal veggie till chemotheraphy throw me one. Now living on white toast with marmite, Scully chicken and veg soup, scullyhaddock and smoked salmon chowder, white pasta mild cheese sauce, slightly over cooked veggies and tinned fruit in its own juice with some frozen plain fish and the excitement of bananas. (Nausea and dynorod can cause limitations on roughage but l miss beans, lentils and good wholemeal bread) ) that and DHs homemade egg free mango ice cream. Oh and his GF choclate brownies as he makes them using baked sweet potato. (Advice from oncology nurses to stick to boring bland and very easy to digest till guts decide to settle down on supportive drugs)

The lovely lot here have shared some useful tips and simple to prep ideas if you hit as unlucky as I seem to. I can recommend the Japanese’s sumo broth recipe.it is very good when you feel able to face it and you can sub the cabbage for easier to digest green leaves like spinach.

Thank you to all here, you encourage me to keep trying to eat even on the days I feel dreadful post chemo.

Considering your nausea I think you can be really proud that you are eating. Even your new adapted diet has some important food in there and I am all in favour of those brownies

I think it’s time for me to make some more! Get that cocoa in me ready for another week of recovery

As an alternative to brownies I have a recipe for double dark choc collies - plan is to try them this afternoon so watch this space for update and photo…..

Meanwhile I’m off for my go-to small brekkie of plain yoghurt, kiwi, pomegranate and seeds

Have to admit it’s the dynorod effect that has really got me. Still working out the best way to manage that side effect. Thank all that is good for loperamide as it does help. Still wary of being too far from a loo or without loperamide in my hands but slowly getting there. Managed to do a little bit of gardening and a walk that was twice the distance of the day before yesterday as the loperamide stops me being so utterly wiped out.

This morning I braved porridge with some tinned apricots, fresh blueberries with a sprinkle of flaked almonds with half a teaspoon of sugar. hoping the almonds do not aggravate things as it really was just a sprinkle. IF not maybe I can think of something more exciting for lunch like the smoked haddock risotto recipe earlier in this thread.

That would be a big improvement on yesterdays utterly bland smooth soup lunch and tiny piece of wild salmon with 12 boiled spinach and ricotta tortellini in GF mild cheese sauce. IF I can manage it I may get to the shop and buy some Greek yogurt and fresh eggs.

Alas beige again for lunch.

cauldron ready to use tofu pieces with chestnut mushrooms on toast .

takes five minutes to prep and cook. (made for lower guts still in rebellion day hence beige) You can add spinach and other veg and even an egg to make a good omlette if they are fine.

Toasted two slices decent white bread, dry fried some chestnut mushrooms with half a pack of ready Cauldron Tofu in garlic and ginger. added extra half pat frozen garlic and fried dry till hot. Made a nice change from soup. Served over thinly buttered toast. Small individual pot ambrosia rice pudding.

Loperamide appears to be starting to work. decided to make self eat as I have been out hoeing the flower beds this morning. if the drugs work well will aim for a walk to the shops later. bloody side effects!

I made the mistake of doing some exercise this morning at the gym as I was feeling much less tired, then had an hour’s round trip for blood test and so have run out of energy to make my cookies today. Definitely tomorrow!

I love those mini ambrosia rice puddings. They’re surprisingly nutritious. A nice change from yoghurt. And as you know I absolutely rate the ready marinated tofu. It’s so versatile. Sometimes I just chuck it in a green salad with a load of leaves, toasted pumpkin seeds and a nice dressing.

My partner has made a sofrito/chopped walnut-based veggie bolognese for our evening meal, with whole grain linguine and salad. So I can have a nice rest this afternoon. Had scrambled eggs on toast for lunch. And the ubiquitous but very necessary 100% cocoa and soya protein powder milkshake. When all of this is over I’m not eating cocoa powder ever again :joy:

Had my first chemo yesterday and it went well! Supportive drugs working for me so plodding along around the house. Have enough time at hand so made some omurice curry - basically a Japanese curry (chicken, tofu puff, mushroom, carrots, butternut squash and onion) with an omelet on top. Chive for garnish.

Big portion is for my partner! Small frequent meals for me :face_savoring_food::curry_rice:

It was!! Partner wolved it down in no time. I was pacing myself (also taking time to write my last post before digging in  ) but I felt if it wasn’t for chemo I’d also chomped it in no time.

Enough leftover for lunch tomorrow!

This looks phenomenal!

To be fair my wholemeal switch didn’t last long and I’ve gone back to my beloved white bloomer. I missed it so much and I figured life’s way too short to be worrying about bread!

Hello @herts82 I saw you post in the Feb chemo thread. I hope you dont mind me replying to you here. I spend so much time lurking in this forum I’ll need a new hobby when treatment is done haha

I thought here was a good place to mention this as a reminder for myself and others. It’s no secret I am obsessed with my bloods and I’ve been seeing my red blood cells go down also so I just had a quick search for an easy way to help this.

Apparently a bowl of cereal thats been fortified with iron (Special K, Cheerios, Frosted mini wheats, All bran) can provide up to 25-100% of the daily recommended intake of iron. If you eat that with a glass of fresh orange juice it helps even more. I thought a bowl of cereal sounds a gentler way to get iron in us on our hard eating days

Ah thanks @foxgem I’d been doing the whole red meat green veg thing but didn’t think about cereals as I never eat them. The orange juice is a good tip though to have with meals. My sister was also saying avoid caffeine with meals and wait an hour either side as caffeine slows down iron absorption.
