Cancer made me eat šŸ˜‹

Second that with the caffeine. Caffeine also inhibits take up of calcium which let’s face it we all need more of for our female bones! So space that morning coffee and milk with cereal well apart :+1:

Lurking in here looking at the amazing food suggestions. I too have perfected my EC Chemo food intake.
Day 1-4 Granola with blueberries kiwi and natural yog with a sprinkling of all bran to keep me regular with all the meds. Then soup preferably homemade with white beans/lentils etc added for extra fibre for most meals with rye toast. With or without marmite! Plus so much fluids to try and flush out that Red Devil.
Day 5-7 It’s Carby, it’s sourdough toast and marmite or Hommus, it’s pasta with fresh vege/chicken etc. it’s mostly white food. This seemed to avoid me going from ā€œbungedā€ to ā€œEye of Sauronā€ as it has been named in the family. Also ā€œRing of fireā€ has become the day 5 theme tune :joy::woman_facepalming:t3:
In addition to all the good wholesome food I seem to have developed a chocolate habit. Who am I kidding - I have allowed my chocolate habit to ā€œthrive in chemoā€! Which makes up for the no alcohol since diagnosis- from one crutch to another…
However husband advised a friend of his was asking after me and advised his wife who is two years post treatment survived chemo on a basic diet of ā€œwine ( the only thing she could enjoy taste wise) and minstrelsā€ so think I am doing very well.

I’ve totally gone off coffee, anyone else have that? Even my tea consumption which used to be through the roof I have got down to just 2 a day. Crazy how so much of it is habit that needs a bit of breaking and adjusting.

I’m with you on the chocolate habit! I have a very beige carb-heavy diet but generally I didn’t eat much pure chocolate. However I’ve been off my ADHD meds since doing chemo, and with easter coming along I started a habit of always having mini eggs on my desk - now I can’t stop :sob: Making up the missing dopamine a bit from alcohol too. But if anyone deserves chocolate it’s us going through chemo!!

I did get a 90% Lindt bar this week inspired by you guys. My husband used to do keto so we tried a bunch of dark chocolate back then, so I know I don’t hate the bitterness - going to try have a bit of that between the minstrels

Just on the chocolate theme I bought these to drink (hot chicks) and add to my fruit yoghurt combos and overnight oats and both are great!

Sorry am eating right now so thought I’d snap this too as a good protein option, lentil cakes with cottage cheese, spinach and tomatoes (obvs top with whatever salad etc you love, sun-dried tomatoes also good). Could even go for smoked salmon or mackerel for that extra protein hit if not veggie/vegan.

I love those lentil protein cakes too, they’re great for an easy lunch or snack if you’ve got no bread in. Had cottage cheese for my lunch today!

@sam1204 decisive question, do you ever get the cottage cheese with pineapple??

Ha ha no @herts82 . I don’t really like sweet and savoury things together. I do like the one with onion and chives but it’s very hard to find where I live. I can only get it if I go to the big city :joy:. I think with pineapple it’s a bit of a marmite thing…..

:joy: I love pineapple and cheese, classic 80s cocktail party, but cannot bring myself to try it with cottage cheese

Same! But I wouldn’t put pineapple on a pizza either. That’s just wrong :joy:

Finally got round to making these double chocolate cookies which use olive oil instead of butter/marg and are therefore better for you. I think you could use all plain flour or a substitute whole meal flour for the rye if you don’t have it. I also only put 100g of sugar in as I don’t have a sweet tooth. It yielded twice as many as the recipe says (I can’t imagine how big they’d be if you just made 8!!) and cooked them for about 20 mins. They didn’t really spread as I thought they might - maybe the smaller amount of sugar??. Here’s a photo of mine and the recipe (sorry got the two photos of instructions in wrong order )

. An excellent and quite healthy way of getting lots of cocoa and dark choc down :+1:. Go neutrophils :flexed_biceps:!

@demimiray yep I’ve been a devil for chocolate. The 70% is much nicer than the 90% to my mind, so if you can’t do the whole bitterness, then maybe the 70% will be more doable.

Mmmm Minstrels. D’oh!

Day 3 after chemo with lethargy on the rise (g-csf injection side effects kicking in also). Here’s some chawanmushiļ¼ˆčŒ¶ē¢—č’øļ¼‰

Mix one part of beaten egg with approx 2 parts of kombu dashi, with a teaspoon of soya sauce and mirin (Japanese cooking wine, I’ve run out so substituted with Cantonese rice wine), poured over a tea cup with shredded chicken thigh and mushrooms, some thinly sliced carrots, 15 minutes gentle steaming on low fire. I used some kitchen foil to cover the cup in the steamer, to conserve that silky smooth surface! Chive for garnish.

Amazing sam!!! Well done!!! Keep doing what you are doing. You should write a food diary and share it with others once you are through treatment

I love the 70% Lindt bar - I’m not quite hardcore enough for the 90! - and peppermint tea is my go to drink to pair with it.

@sam1204 this has reminded me of a really good banana bread recipe on BBC food that uses oil (I use olive, it says vegetable in the recipe) and I chuck dark chocolate chips in it too, it is delicious! Add some good warming spices in too.
