Hi,
Nick hoping that some good news is winging its way to you, sorry antenna doesn’t do employment matters. I asked but no response! I am really hoping to see my onc for the last time and to thank him. Might also ask him who I should attach myself to now, if I get any choice in this. You are right that I am not so unlucky as friends who are still on active treatment. Still another person to strip off for!! Is there anyone left who hasn’t seen them I ask? Anyway I go next Thursday but have not got in for bloods yet as so many late nights at work Victor gets in before me every day now!Still that means he picks the pup up from daycare!! A trip to Paris sounds just the thing and why not?
As to the f/f mine is not an american joint but 2 separate large units that can be put side by side if you have the space so I can’t help either, sorry.
Late again aye
Lily x
Hello Ladies,
I bet you thought I’d disappeared - no, just one social occasion and I was knac*ered! Yesterday was my OHs b’day. We had friends for an evening of blackjack and poker on Saturday.I did food and despite keeping it simple and being organised in advance I was still exhausted. I made a toffee apple cake from the November Good Food Mag. It turned out just like the pic and tasted great. My friend (who had bc a year ahead of me) and her OH stayed over.We had a lovely leisurely brunch, creamy scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and lots of coffee! They went home at 3pm. It was my first evening entertaining at home and it was great to feel normal.
Can’t help with the American FF, I would love one, but not now - got to cut down on consumption and lose that blooming chemo weight!
I haven’t planned ANYTHING for Christmas. My rads will end on 23rd. Dec. Knowing me there’ll be a last minute panic dash.
Thanks for the tip about the almond oil Peacock. I will give it a try. I’ll also have quite a drive to rads - hope I don’t doze off - I’ll be driving!
Hi all, sorry for my absence, been at jewellery parties and left lap top at home and I didnt want to open my self up to the comments I recieve when I use my phone to try and post lol! Catch up later with all the goss xxxx
Hello ladies - I am remembering back to one year ago today since our house fire, hasn’t it gone quick?
Not my usual time for posting but not much on tv tonight so I’m having a late laptop night, have been talking to my sister on FB for a while.
Lily what a shame that the man you trust implicitly is retiring, we do build up a relationship of sorts don’t we. I’m jealous about your hair, I wish mine was long and thick and curly – but not to be, just the same as before chemo, dead straight, fine and doesn’t grow very quickly – like my nails.
Nicky I hope you get some news soon re the job offer and shame on you, a glam trip for the day to Paris, why not I say? Mind you don’t walk along some of the back streets, they can be a bit smelly but no doubt you’ll be staying in the main streets where the stalls are.
Slenda it really is a good feeling when you start to do normal things, even if you end up exhausted, don’t expect too much of yourself. Your toffee apple cake sounds delicious, do you care to share the recipe? Mind you I’m avoiding sweet things at the moment. I was very lucky with the health service here, as I used to get a taxi ambulance to take me to appointments, chemo/Herceptin etc. Still do in fact, it is part of the system for 5 years post treatment and if we take our own car then they reimburse us for diesel and tolls.
I feel disappointed today,as well as it being the anniversary of the fire I had a meeting with the builder and electrician up at the house and because our bathrooms are more sq metres than “estimated” it means it is going to cost quite a bit more to have full tiling on the walls. I’m going to have to do some negotiating with him, as he agreed to reimburse us for the mess up that he made of the floor levelling – oh it’s a long story so I won’t bore you with it! We appear to be hitting the part that is “out of budget” which means cutting back on some other things like kitchen equipment, bath, toilets etc.
It is a bank holiday here tomorrow, Armistice Day so I am going with YD to visit my friend who had the mini strokes a little while back. She is doing ok I’m pleased to say but appears to be suffering from early morning headaches and has been told this can be normal following strokes due to the brain function.
All for now, xxx
Oh peacock, I cannot believe that is a year since your house fire. I am sorry that you are having new problems re the tiling expenses now.
I hope you enjoy your day out with YD and that your friend is feeling better.
I would say for the past week I have been feeling more like my old self again and stamina and mobility is improving daily.
My OH has a few health problems at the moment so I am keeping an eye on him making sure he doesn’t overdo it. he was moving a slab today in the garden and has now injured his middle finger but will he see his GP…NO! He was given tablets for his high BP but there is a serious concern to taking this drug when he his on another medication that he has been on for years for bi-polar. Seems I just wel enough in time.
I went to visit my Dad today. He was 87 yesterday and he wanted things to nibble not clothes he told me when I asked if he needed or wanted anything. So I went to M and S and got him lots of goodies for him to chew/crunch and my OH bought him a bottle of Port. My friends were celebrating their wedding anniversary today so I took them some flowers and a card ( forgot to post in in time!).
My OH is going out walking with his pal tomorrow so the world is my oyster! Not sure what mischief I will be up to but al the housework is up to date so I won’t be busy in the house that is for sure.
I have read all your posts. Just haven’t been writing much as not much to say ( says she who writes a sermon every time!) Love to all and hugs to those struggling. Love Val
Hi,
Slenda you did really well to organise and stay awake for what sounds like a lovely visit from your friends. Well done for mentioning food It sounded lovely.
hi Val so glad to hear you are feeling more like yourself and let us know what you get up to tomorrow! My mum was 80 last month and I bought her lots of edibles too. Hope your dad enjoys his as much as she did. Are the docs happy with how the op went? Hopefully it has been an improvement for you. You can always tell us about food!! Any nice christmas ideas?
P - it doesn’t seem like a year and I am sorry to remember such a sad time for you. Yor tales of uneven floors and extra costs are familiar. We have just paid our final payment to the builder recently and negotiated a discount due to a few things we weren’t happy about. Minor but still thimgs we now have to put up with or sort out. I am much better at negotiating than Victor He wouldn’t stoop so low ha ha. Your description of my hair sounds lovely, I wish!!! It is being chopped this week as I feel like a hippy! Or maybe the dropped perm crimped look that was popular in George Michael early days! Your friend must worry about headaches after strokes, poor her.
Well a big dash to the vet again as Yds dog has kennel cough and pup has been staying there some days. She was not impressed as it is the vaccine they put up their noses. He was quick and firm so at least it was done quickly and she didnt care too much.
Anyone have plans for the weekend?
Lily x
hi all, bit late so havent caught up on goss yet, bit sad friends mate had BC but couldnt have chemo due to heart problems so spread to blood stream - all before i had it and then tonight just found out had lung cancer one collapsed and lot of infection and checking tomorrow to see if gone to liver - how wierd, it’s a primary, i thought this might be good news but if cant have chemo dunno xx Well catch up tomorrow as missing the goss xx
Hi ladies - a full house I think - well, once I’ve added my ‘dribble’ LOL
P - can’t believe it’s a year already, no wonder you are feeling sad but I hope today your spirits have picked up. I definitely sympathise about the added costs when it comes to building. When we were buying this house we were told we could fit out certain rooms such as kitchen and bathrooms to a certain spec. Unfortunately the kitchen fitter (yes, him of the burning ears and lousy F/F) decided to spend a LOT of extra money on the kitchen without telling us. Hmmmm, don’t they always?
Slenda - well done on your celebrating, it’s so nice knowing you’re not about to pop down the big black hole - every again!!! So you will keep going from strength to strength, but take your time, especially with rads coming up.
Val - how lovely to hear from you - hope you are up to lots of mischief I saw on the bone mets three about your mobility and lack of pain - I’m so pleased for you, it must make such a difference to everyday. Hope OH sorts himself out, medicine wise - or maybe otherwise LOL
Lisa - I was a bit offended by you earlier post about us making fun of your typing when using your mobile - as if, aye Well done on all your sales of jewellery - it must be really nice to do a hobby that you love, and get paid for it - well done you.
Lily - poor pup - she must be trembling every time she goes near the vets! Hope you’re not overdoing it with the late night working. At least you get home to a lovely meal cooked by Victor Ha ha. As to the negotiating, I think it is woman’s work! I’m so good at it that in my time I’ve got a new dining room set, 2 new dishwashers, pounds of credit from a phone company, discount off orders, expired flying miles re-instated, the list goes on - they all really don’t know what they’re facing when they don’t provide a good service for me! All done very nicely of course as that’s the way you get what you want.
Maybe, as I didn’t get the job that should be my new career - senior negotiator?
So, my news is very thin on the ground, no job (went to someone with experience in the charity sector) so I guess I’d better took again - but no point now it’s nearly Christmas! OH is still on the job hunt and still has a few irons in the fire. A big interview yesterday but probably won’t get the job as, again, his sector experience is not as good as some of the others who were there. However, more interviews next week so at least they haven’t dried up which is what happened the other week when I was really down about it. Did a quick dash to get some Christmas presents yesterday - mainly in Boots where they had a promotion on their points scheme. Well worth it as I save them up all year and then can get both D’s some nice (expensive!) perfume they both love. Other than that nothing much going on. Feeling sluggish as not been walking all week as it’s been so miserable and wet and I’m a fair weather walker!
So, have a good weekend everyone. (Big pause in my typing as I realised it was 11am on 11.11.11.)
Nicky xxx
ps - how odd, my pc says 11.03 but the site says 11.00 - honest I did wait. x
Nicky so sorry you didnt get the job, hope something comes up soon as must be worrying.
Hope everyone is okay, just a quick post as got an early start of 7am to liverpool for the day, it’s a bus shopping trip but me and friends from work are just doing nice lunch and pubs till 6pm return, it’s good to catch up as we all work in different areas of county so good goss. Weight loss been crap but up to 8lb so bit push (well after tomorrow lol).
Happy weekend all xxxxxx
Hi,
Nicky sorry to hear that you didn’t get the job, what mugs to let you slip out of their hands again. Hope Oh has better luck but it is tricky at this time of year so he is doing well to have things still coming up. Ed s friend is so fed up of being in sales and probationary periods being extended without cause that she has quit. Still you never know as sometimes they take people for their personality if they want someone who fits in with the rest of the team. I think you should write a book about how to get what you want from businesses. Sounds like you know what you are doing. Victor is hopeless at these things and always expects me to do the nasty deed. I agree you don’t have to be nasty just persistent and cheeky enough to ask. We all did our 2 minutes today. Actually the kids are really focused on the importance of it, much more so than 5 years ago. I think it is because they all know someone who has someone in Afghanistan or from the news and papers about deaths and injuries. They couldn’t quite relate themselves to WW1 and 2 because of the distance in time.
Well I had bloods done yesterday and I sat there for an hour waiting to go in, which was very annoying as it was my lunchtime. It was a stingy one but no bruise so went well. The chap doing it called me mate all the way through, informed me that the blood was spraying out (gulp) and then stuck enough tape on to go almost right round my arm giving me an arm wax and a rash as I am allergic to it. Nice
I go next week to hear how things are. No particular reason to be concerned but I do always run various scenarios through my head, no matter how hard I try to be sensible. I should listen to antenna more! Well a lovely day with little chap here tomorrow. I wish saturdays were longer than every other day
Lily aye you did it again LISA
Well I’ve had a pretty non-eventful day and with a load of rubbish on TV tonight looks like my evening won’t be much better, but hey, I’m talking to my buddies so it has just improved LOL. YD is staying at a friend this evening so I’m home alone – again!
Val, I hope your OH’s medical problems quickly get resolved and the correct medication is given, is it all the worry with your problems that may have caused high BP? Hopefully if so this will only be a temporary blip and he will be back to bringing you tea and toast soon. It must be quite nice for you actually to be looking after him for a bit.
Lily I am thinking of going back to the dropped perm “shaggy” look, as my hair is so fine and straight I thought it might give it some body, for those of us who don’t have ringlets and want them it is our only choice. I remember a really bad perm my ex MIL did for me back in the 70’s, it was sooo tight I couldn’t get a comb through it, however once it dropped it was a really lovely perm. Poor Koko but I’m sure she’ll thank you for it in the end. Have you been left bruised from the arm waxing ?? I’m allergic to plaster glue too so always have difficulty when I need to use it especially after ops. How lovely for you to have little chap over, I had a lovely conversation with our new little chap the other evening, when he came onto the phone he said “hello Nanny” and I felt so pleased as he was quite shy when we met him a few weeks ago.
Sorry to hear about your friend Lisa, I hope you’ve had a great time in Liverpool – I used to work for a company whose Head Office was in Widnes!
Nicky what a shame about the job, perhaps it might be better to get Christmas out of the way before looking, as it isn’t a great time to be starting a new job but hope that you get some good news for OH’s interviews.
What are we all planning for Christmas? I think this year it will only be me, Mr P and YD as ED and son of P are planning to stay in England this year, so it will feel a bit strange being without them all. Still, in France it is only 1 day as everyone is back to work on 26 Dec. I do hope we will be in our new house with a lovely tree and a homely feel, something that a rented house seems to lack for some reason.
Anyway, 3 years ago today I had my mx – I almost forgot about it until just now when I checked the time and date and what a lot has happened since then, I ought to write a book.
I hope you all have a great weekend, whatever you are doing and hi to those I’ve missed. XXX
Hi,
Peacock it does not seem like 3 years ago. Do I remember right that you had chemo before your op? Well I guess we could start a new trend by both having the shaggy perm look had my hair chopped today. My hairdresser does whatever she wants anyway so I didnt even bother to say what I wanted today. I just said I wnate dto encourage the curls and be shorter and warmer and off she went. So tonight my hair is a very warm dark brown that shines like a conker when in the light. It has removed the grey and blondr streaks so much darker, which I understand is the way to go fashionwise. Not sure why it looks so much darker but ED says she loves it so that makes me feel happier. Victor now has more hair on his head than his neck again lol.
P you must have been so thrilled to hear him accept you as nanny, how fantastic. Littel chap had all 5 adults and the pup running around so we are all shattered and I think he will sleep really well tonight. I took him shoppingwith my mum today ahd when we got back to the car mum said i bought you a magazine. What were the chances of her buying the magazine he had seen on the shelf and told me was much too scary. It was a Dr who mag and had a lot of monsters on the front. He said if i look at that it will be in my head and i will be scared for weeks! So it is going to someone a little older instead.
Baby is rolling over and over now and trying to talk to everyone and everything, so sweet. He is still almost bald but a very determined little chap. He can go forwards and backwards in his babywalker so she will be in trouble with him up to things before too long. Number 3 baby looks like he is going to be another biggy and giving her trouble with heartburn and dizzy spells at the moment. She has Victor working out if her wooden floor can take the weight of a birthing pool as she wants a home birth!
Night all aye
Lily x
Hi,
crikey page 5!!! to find our post. Well I guess it is better than the page 3 girl I will be on Thurs at the hospital I am a little quiet and thoughtful as always when the day approaches, more so with the onc visit than for the ones to my surgeon. I wonder if we will always be chained to calendar dates? I have no particular reason to think about it but ‘what if’ always pops in my head nevertheless. Victor still takes the day off every time and comes along so I will have company if there is a long wait. He syas I never talk ti him anyway and chat to whoever is siting next to me. Funny that, but they usually have a lot in common with me!I often meet up with ladies I have met along the way and it is nice to see them doing well.
Not much news I am afraid apart from the most beautiful cupcake you ever saw (well for 30 seconds until I scoffed it) made for children in need day. Covered in tiny little perfect flowers and edible glitter twinkling over them. Wish I had bought 2!!
Hope all well and busy

Hi All, sorry been aqbsent, so tired and sore throat typical just as of to newcie for some retail therapy for a few days tomorrow lunch time, if I erver finish work. Will defo catch up later tonight then i’ll be missing for a few days, hopefully come back relaxed but fatter ouch!!
Good luck on Thursday Lily.
I can honestly say I feel like I am moving on Darling buddies…
Last chemo 3 weeks ago, starting to feel more like the old me, PICC removed yesterday, decided to stop the counselling, 2 weeks “off” before rads. I actually have a little surplus energy to offer support to a couple of friends who have probs which are nothing to do with bc - now that’s progress.
Feeling positive today - hope it lasts.
Bump to Page 1.
Hi,
Slenda welcome to the after chemo club :)then and really glad to hear you are bouncing back. Rads are a nuisance more than anything else as every day but not like the evil chemo side effects, just very hot after week one. Do you need herceptin or will it be on to tablets like most of us next? Those little perishers! Thank you for your good wishes.
I have been to the vets again tonight, seems weekly these days, as pup has caught kennel cough from Yds dogs. She sounds like a very lous sealion, which is not good as she sleeps in our room now. Can’t seem to find the energy to rid her of this since the kitchen was finished. So poor old thing has no womb, no ovaries, an infected scar that they squeezed the pus out of and now kennel cough. She is infectious and not allowed out anywhere. Two of Yds dogs have it as well and kept her up all night. We ahve a sick bug in school so hoping to avoid that one yuk.
take care
Lily x
Poor pup. Hope she’s better soon.
rads will be the end of my treatment because I’m triple negative, so hot booby Christmas for me and then that’s it - I hope!
Oh Lily poor pup bless, kennel cough ouch - robson comes back from kennels with no voice at all so should have peace at weekend, hate leaving him.
Slenda glad you are nearing the end and moving on, great but wierd feeling, dont be cooking on the hot chest lol! hope it aint too bad xx
How’s everyone else???
Well no news here but soooo tired off to bed and then work then newcie for few days, was due to be hospital appointment but put back so going to jsut enjoy it, my typing getting worse as so tired so night night.
Oh, just better warn you any posts until Friday night will be on my moible, spelling and grammar apoalogies now.
Hugs xxx
Hi ladies, sorry for the absence but OH hogging the pc again and also no real news to post - just catching up with yours.
Sorry to hear about poor pup, Lily - let’s hope the cough isn’t catching - the one at school, not Koko’s LOL Also, good luck tomorrow with your appt, I’m sure you won’t have anything to worry about but we all know that feeling. x
Lisa - how was the 'pool? Did you say hi to my rellies? You’re bound to have met all my cousins LOL Hope you had a good weekend and then a good couple of days in Newcie. As to the spelling when you start using your phone I can’t say we’ll notice the difference, aye xx
Slenda - yes, welcome back to the ‘real’ world. Despite rads you are definitely on the way back to feeling more normal. Having said that, were you normal to begin with? I’m not sure I was Hope the extra energy is helping and it is nice to help others for a change. How’s the hair coming on? Hope it comes back as you want - not how you don’t. My initial lots was quite wiry and sprinkled with grey - how those years of highlights had made me look blonde! However isn’t now back to as it was and I’ve kept it dark - so much easier and cheaper to do! In fact as soon as that first lot was cut it’s been good so I hope you don’t get any nasty surprises.
Hi to Val, Bev and P - hope you are all well.
So, a catch up from me. I realised that I forgot to say I’d had and extra onc appt the other week - how can you forget those? I’d gone to ask about additional treatment for my bone mets to see if they could be zapped but it seems a no-go and she (my original) onc was really pleased with how my treatment was going. We were talking about my mets so she read out the last CT scan result and happened to mention spots on T11 and T12 on my spine. Oh, I said, what are they? She said, they’re fine and they’ve always been there since end of chemo (when they had 1st showed up on a CT scan as they are too small to be seen on the original bone scan) Oh, I said, no-one’s mentioned them before! So now I have 2 more mets than I thought - as someone has said before - Cancer - the disease that keeps on giving - LOL BTW I’m not worried by them, they have been as stable as the others since 2008 it was just a surprise to find them there!
Other than that no other news, just plodding along and trying to get my head around birthdays and Christmas. We have asked both sets of parents (or ‘rents’ as my ED calls them) over for Christmas day - luckily they are both fairly local, so they can stay the night and then head off after breakfast - which is a relief as I won’t have to do a whole load of catering - just more on the day.
TTFN (aren’t I full of abbreviations this morning?)
Nicky xxx
Hello ladies
I’ve been quiet as not had any news, thankfully the days have been dry and bright although a bit chilly so at least the weather is ok.
Slenda you are sounding great and positive and it is a good thing that you aren’t feeling too run down before rad starts.
Lily hope all is well with you and the usual bugs going around manage to steer clear of you.
Lisa glad you had a good shopping day, and Nicky what a bit of a shock for you at your recent visit.
YD has been off school for a couple of days, usual sort of fluey thing, headache, aches & pains, tiredness, apparently it is going around. She is better today though and is off to the cinema this evening to see the latest Twilight film (in French).
No more news from me, everything is tickety boo. XXX
